Have you read IT, seen the old TV Mini Series? Good, because this is a retelling, modernized so there aren't too many "big" surprises or major changes to the basic formulae of the story.

I really, REALLY enjoyed this movie. It wasn't "scary" like stupid jump scares and crap, it was a mental terror game that if you just let yourself be swept up it's a good ride. The cast handle the rolls well, while Tim Curry will always be "Pennywise" the new Pennywise will compete with him for fan fave. I really liked how tightly the narrative of the movie was, flowing from salient point to salient point instead of wasting time in fluff. While I did hear few people complain it "went too fast, I didn't understand it" I chalk that up to stupid people go to movies too and I ignore them.

There are a few awkward scenes, Beverly's dad... if you know what I'm talking about, you want to donkey kick him into a wall. And the scene in her bathroom is nothing short of spectacular and creepy and I loved it.

All in all, I give it 4 out of 5 stars and am looking forward to the next installment.

I am very happy to here that. The book is one of my favorites and I enjoyed the original movie.

All the previews I saw only showed them as kids. Is it split between childhood and adulthood like the novel and original movie?

It is. They are making the next part.

I can't wait to see this. I'm trying to go see it today or tommorow.

This movie was only part 1 right? With part 2 coming out next year?

This is Chapter one, the young in years. Next if they do it is adults.

Part 2 is dependent on how well this does.

 then I guess they won't get my money. They can't do half a project and then demand money to finish it. If it makes it to part 2 I'll watch a double feature when it comes out.

No no no, that's not it. They planned it this way, it was a high risk film. It's shattering BO records so they will make part two.

Remaking a popular movie with a source author that is printing money right now is high risk? I don't even wanna know what they consider safe

The Dark Tower flopped.

The Dark Tower flopped.

Cost $60 million made $100 million huge flop

I wish I could be so successful that making $40 million dollar profit was a failure

Edit: not to mention IT was it production long before dark tower "flopped"

Uhm, it did flop. 60 million is just production costs. Another 40 million Advertising, plus the theaters keep their share so yeah Crovax, it flopped badly.

I noticed that you ignored the 2nd and more important point that IT was already green lighted long before the dark tower "flopped"

I just saw It and I loved it! Very nicely done film. I was pleasantly surprised.

It seems to be making a ton of money, made something like $50 million on a $35 million budget in one day of release. I am sure we will see part two get made.

My point about risks being King movies aren't sure hits.

I agree with Renae, it's a solid 4/5. I saw it last night and was pleasantly surprised that it felt like the cool story it was suppose to, from start to finish. A few hiccups but nothing too distracting from the overall movie. Seems like they got all the stuff in they needed to, with special effects having come so far that they could mesh with the story without being too distracting or fake.

I saw Dark Tower a few weeks ago as well, and while I enjoyed it as fantasy/sci-fi films go (the setting was cool, felt unique) it was rather hasty and predictable.
I'm going back and reading the series again, it's been some (20+years?) years I'd forgotten most of it. I can definitely see people who enjoyed the books being dismayed at how it was really more of a modern cookie-cutter box off movie with the trappings of the Dark Tower series.

Watched it yesterday w/ some friends. Amazing. Loved every second of it.

I give it a 4.5/5.0.

They had forgotten the face of their fathers. We shall not speak of that film again, Thankee-sai
Indeed. Since the last time I read it was so incredibly long ago, I watched the movie before going back and reading (on book 4 now). Funny thing is, I see Idris Elba as the gunslinger now, totally subconscious. It was particularly mind bending when Odetta was calling him a honkey, but it didn't stop it at all, just made it "curious". Even young gunslinger in the Susan tale, a younger Idris. The mind works in mysterious ways.

The only thing I did not like about It was that Pennywise was a bit too creepy. In reality, no kid would go anywhere near that evil looking clown to retrieve a paper sail boat. The clown in the It mini series was much more believable in terms of being able to lure a kid. But, I guess in reality, what kid would go near any person standing in a sewer and peeping up through the grate? Lol

Well, the intention is to scare them, by using their worst fears against them. i don't think Pennywise was ever supposed to be "inviting".

Pennywise in the novel is supposed to be inviting, like a Bozo the Clown type. Tim Curry's portrayal was very close to the character in the novel. In this new movie, the clown was too evil looking right off the bat. I liked the portrayal, but in reality no kid would go near that thing.

When I watched the Tim Curry version of this movie, I was never scared of the clown because whenever he popped up all I saw was his Rocky Horror Picture Show character.

Do you think it's appropriate for a 9 year old?

My daughter really, really wants to watch it. She does pretty good with horror movies, I get more scared than her but I have heard it's not really appropriate for children but want to hear from others as well.

I think it would be most inappropriate. But I'm a fuddy duddy about such, I didn't let my kids watch Hard R movies till they were 16.
