RIP: Walter Becker

I hate hippy, overproduced, "classic rock". There are a couple exceptions, the biggest being Steely Dan.

its too bad. starting college in the fall of 1977, I hadn't listened to SD much. I was mainly into the British hard rock scene-LZ, Who, Stones and American groups such as the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane. but a suite mate had several of SDs records and Aja showed up sometime in the first year. I never got into them like I did the bands I already really liked, or later forming groups I first experienced in college (The Clash, the Ramones, and a bit later U2 and REM) but I respected Fagan and Becker for being brilliant artists who crafted excellent music. its sad he died way too soon: he joins a ton of talented musicians that have been lost in the last 20 months or so: Prince, Greg Lake, David Bowie, Keith Emerson among others

Probably my two favorites from them

unusual in a positive way... a different guitarist rather than a different drummer
thanks for the legacy of decades of great music
