BBC list of best comedies ever made

Many people didn't read the list!

Hey......I'm a victim here.
I put my trust in zyzygy and he betrayed me.
I'm so disillusioned.....I don't believe in nothin' and nobody no more.

I prefer Jackie Chan's flicks to most of the stuff on those lists. Here are some they should have watched before making the list

4) Howard the Duck
The only list Howard The Duck belongs on is "The List of Movies That NEVER Should Have Been Made".

7) Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Yes! That is one of my favorite movies.
I especially love the piano duel scene between Daffy and Donald. Talk about your "Angry Birds".

Note to self. Always wear your reading glasses when reading.

The fact that Zelig and Top Secet! are on the list shows that whoever compiled it looked a little outside the box. Both were brilliant. However the best Woody Allen film was omitted: Bananas. Courtroom scene in that movie is one of the most sustained hilarious scene, ever.

Also, "Some Like it Hot" seems to always win these things.

What a crappy list. Brazil, The Gods Must be Crazy and Austin Powers arent even in it.

No Pedro Almodóvar movies? Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown? That's a Top 3 for me. Volver? Top 5. No place for O Brother, Where Art Thou? Or Potiche?

And what about Holiday On The Buses?

So many omissions.

While it peters out in the second half, few movies are funnier than So, I Married an Axe Murderer's first half.

Zelig is a very funny movie.

I have seen about 25% of that list. some I really don't see as comedies

but my list would be like this

1) The Holy Grail
2) Animal House
3) Caddyshack
4) Robin Hood-men in tights
5) Blades of Glory
6) A Fish Called Wanda
7) Meaning of Life

All considered - a good list.

My differences:

ANIMAL HOUSE should be higher than 47 - I would put it in the top 25
BORAT would be higher than 41 - again, another in the top 25

To me the best and funniest Preston Sturgess film is MIRACLE OF MORGANS CREEK - and I did not see it on the list. I would put it in the top 20.

I did not see PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES - which for me would be in the top 10.

WHERE'S POPPA should be on the list - probably in the top 60 or so.

Frank Capra's YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU should be in the top 50.

yes - I would agree that for pure laughs - BANANAS is the funniest of all Woody Allens films.

Regarding Monty Python having two films in the top 15...........

I once drove from Michigan to Connecticut for a science fantasy convention and in the car where two other people - one of which was a guy from Chicago who absolutely loved Python and had seemingly memorized vast amounts of their TV show. I had never seen it at that time. So for 500 miles he regales us with the most hilarious retellings of great bits from the show doing characters and generally cracking us up for hour upon hour.

So when I got home I watched some Python and came to the quick conclusion that this friend was about a zillion times funnier than Python was delivering the same material in a very unfunny way.

Sorry - never acquired the taste for it.

Lists of movies and music can always be hard. While I think comedy is even harder than most other lists. That for example drama movies you can appreciate the story, the message and artistic quality even if you find a movie a bit boring. While comedies is more about getting people to laugh and that is even more subjective.

Like for example I like action comedies so I would also like to have some of this movies on the list, Zombieland, Kingsman, Kick-Ass, Last action hero and Tropic Thunder. While having Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz higher.

While I could even want to have movies like Iron Sky and Black Sheep on my list because of my bad taste in humor.

That if you somehow want to have a “objective” list of comedies you need to find movies that both offer "cheap laughs", "intellectual laughs" and the same time have high artistic quality and message. That I think you then must then look at movies like Charlie Chaplin’s.

Im really surprised that The Court Jester or Clue(but somehow Clueless made it?) didnt make it those are such classics

Not even sure why people make those lists, other than as clickbait. Especially on something as subjective as "funniest." I can't imagine anyone in the world doesn't have serious problems with this list, and their problems will be markedly different from everyone else's.

That said, my all-time favorite movie is Ghostbusters.

You are right. There weren't many funny moments in Groundhog Day.

What a crappy list. Brazil, The Gods Must be Crazy and Austin Powers arent even in it.

I thought that the Austin Powers movies were just as bad as the movies they were parodying.
