I am stoked. I first saw the original movie when I was 8 and was totally blown away by it. I'm looking forward to this more than Star Wars. I hope they dont blow it.

Well would you look at that, Hollywood's popping out ANOTHER remake. I can hardly hide my surprise, what ever will they think of next.

Its not a remake but a sequel.

On a tangential note, I can't say I'm looking forward to the next Star Wars movie. I was pretty pissed when they just ripped off the plot from Episode IV (I did enjoy Rogue 1, though), and The Last Jedi sounds every bit as generic as The Force Awakens did. The trailer from awhile back did nothing to suggest to me that the movie would be any deeper than its title.

Worst of all, Disney seems to be taking Star Wars in a really cynical direction - the New Republic is just as ineffectual and bureacratic as the old, the Empire is every bit as dangerous as it was thirty years ago while nobody in the New Republic seems to care that the Third Reich in space is still just as evil as before, the Chosen One was a dismal failure at rebuilding the Jedi Order even after restoring balance to the Force, and worst of all, his nephew has turned out to be even worse than his dad was.

The original trilogy was about overcoming the mistakes of the past and redemption, but with how things turned out a few decades after the galaxy-spanning civil war (s), I can't say that all the hell Luke and Co. Went through really changed much of anything. And frankly, I think that's far worse than anything from the prequels.

Poor choice of words. It's still a rehashing of an intellectual property with a lot of nostalgia riding on it. I've noticed those never seem to satisfy old fans, and can actually do a lot to piss them off.

How do you know its a rehash when it hasnt even come out yet? You seem awfully judgemental about something you havent even watched. My granny always said never judge a book by its cover.

It looks promising, I hope they don't blow it as well. It sure appears they managed to keep the same "feel" as the original.

You're right. I'm being far more pessimistic than I should be. The trailer(s) did look pretty good.

Kobie, this was added literally one post down the thread.

Well its from the same guy who directed Arrival- which was a great sci-fi movie, so Im optimistic about this.
