What it does is give the new show-runner and head writer, Chris Chibnall a whole universe of fictional and comedic scope with which to work. I have to say, although I'm a big Peter Capaldi fan, I've stopped watching Doctor Who while Stephen Moffat has been running it. He has been a poor show-runner and has turned a sci-fi series into a kind of teen-oriented soap opera with monsters. I'm hoping Chibnall will return it a bit to the excellent fun it was under Russell T. Davies.

This will kill the series, after the horrible last doctor, this will turn more people off than on which they had said a few years back why they wouldn't do it.

This is a mark against you, a deep and ugly mark. New Who, while not perfect, is amazing yet still. Watch season 1 an 2, if you are not hooked by the end of Season 2... you will be docked 3 cool points, never recoverable.

I watched old Dr Who reruns as a kid on PBS and then tried to get back into it when they rebooted the series a few years ago but I got bored with it- the alien/monster of the week format has made me jaded. Its predictable as well since the Doctor always wins.

Not always, and once you get past the first season it settles down with Tennent, he really nailed the role. His time as the Doctor will be remembered in the pantheon of Pertewee and Baker

I think it is 930 years -- but I don't know how to even measure years with a time lord that moves in a craft at the speed of light, which slows down time itself.

The Master changed sex too. Timelords can change sex in regeneration.

Do you even watch the show? You're all like "I never liked the show to begin with". So no one gives a **** about your opinion on it.

Someone already mentioned that. When was the first time it happened? Like I said, I don't recall that being part of the show when I watched it. Another poster also said that the changing sex thing is new, which would explain why I don't remember it being a thing in the past.

Anyway, my opinion still stands regardless of anything you just said. This idea of changing male characters into women is getting old and is nothing more than a way to appeal to women, while being sexist towards men.

In fact we know that Timelords can change sex with regenerations, just as with The Master.

All that will matter is "can she play a good Doctor". We'll see if she is as good as David Tennant, who has been the best Doctor of the rebooted series.

A lot of the times the show suffered from ridiculous story lines, bad acting, and awful looking costumes and props.

Plenty of people will leave from this action. Look at the history of changing male characters into female characters and you will find that this action is not one people should be making.

Peter Capaldi? Definitely not a bad Doctor. I thought he fit the role nicely, though David Tennant is still my favorite.

Will it kill the show? No. The Doctor has been on since the 60's. If she does a bad job as The Doctor, it can hurt the show and the ratings, but it won't kill it.

I don't think so, I'm not sure you understand Dr. Who or it's fan base. If she's a lousy Doctor, we'll turn away. There will likely be some amount to turn away because of this, but most of us aren't upset that they changed the Dr. to a woman. We'll just see how it plays out. One of The Doctor's companions turned into a part Time-Lord for a brief period and went from one of the worst companions ever, to one of the better ones.

But whatever, why do you even care? You don't like the show, you don't watch the show, you're anger is absolutely inconsequential to the show. The rest of us will see how she does.

It's addition by subtraction. The producers of the show obviously think the show will maintain its popularity with this change, rather than introducing a new, stronger female character. Be interesting to see how this works out.
