The Black Panther, is the first black superhero to show up in American mainstream comics (Marvel Comics, 1966). This is long before Falcon (Marvel Comics, 1969), Green Lantern John Stewart (DC Comics, 1971) or Luke Cage (Marvel Comics, 1972). His solo movie comes out in February 2018. Long story short, it looks like it’s going to be a good movie.

People, are excited. Folks in social media have been frequently talking about what are they wearing or appearing as for this movie. Some people showed off Coming to America characters. Other people stated other powerful black identities, fictional or otherwise. Me? I was thinking of showing up as Black Dynamite. Being that technically I can show up as myself regardless (I am, the Soul Brother #1 of a Kind as is) I really hope folks were serious. I really do want to see everyone, black and proud, show up cosplaying as other black characters or historical (or modern!) figures. The movie — Black Panther — to get the “Star Wars” treatment? With fans left and right cosplaying to the blockbuster weekend!? As a movie buff and anti-racism abolitionist photojournalist, the beauty and love-overload of the scene alone would be so fierce, my soul would force manly tears.

Unfortunately, everyone doesn’t share the same sentiment concerning this movie. Why, you ask? Because of this:

White people, are totally butt-hurt right now. Whiteness, is crying. Why?

A lot of the Whiteness critique comes from the casting call — to them, I suppose, there’s not enough white people in this movie.

So why?

Outside of Tumblr no one cares. I won't be seeing it but that is because I hate the Marvel movies with the exception of Deadpool.

I never heard of it and the name is less-than-appealing. Suppose to care why?

Marvel has been losing a lot of popularity in the comics area because they've been putting diversity before good writing on their list of priorities. Black Panther and John Stewart (one of the fandom's most beloved Green Lanterns) are two characters I usually point for a counterargument to when someone says comic fans don't like non-white characters.

I'm hoping the movie is good, but I'm afraid that it's going to be a poorly executed flop. My fingers are crossed.

Good question; I guess you'll have to ask a Butt Hurt White Person :2razz:

Considering what Marvel's done with it's first 15 films of it's cinematic universe, and acclaim coming in for the Spiderman movie coming this week, I'm not sure Marvel is capable of producing a flop.

It would be fine by me if this movie had an all-black cast. I don't care who's in it, because I won't be seeing it.

I hope the movie is good as well. I really like the Black Panther.

I'm not White so I couldn't tell you.

Racism in modern American only exists in the poverty-stricken areas of both urban and rural environment where education is practically non-existent.

Those who say otherwise are the ones creating issues, not fighting them.

"Whiteness," in movies...? Seriously? Who cares who is cast in a movie, if you don't like it don't watch it. Stop politicizing every little aspect of life. period.

I can't find any links to this "white outrage". I don't think this is a real issue.

Wow. For some reason, I was thinking about some of the terrible films DC has popped out, like that Green Lantern dumpsterfire.

Marvel's comics have definitely taken a hit, though. Let's just hope the movies keep going strong.

just so long as henry mancini's theme is used

Is there actually any butt hurt or is this just a made up claim.Because as far as I know Black Panther was/is a ruler of a fictional African village/country(spoilers) in the comics and cartoons. So it makes sense that Most of the actors are gong to be black, especially if they are going to do a origin story or a he has to kick some ass in his country story. I could understand there being butt hurt if the Black Panther was traditionally a white character and they decided to make him black like the King Pin in the Dare Devil movie or Nick Fury in the marvel movies. Because changing the characters identity like that usually pisses off comic book fans.

Before I would have agreed with your comment, but I am becoming aware and hearing more intellectual forms of racism lately. When you look at racist movements of the past, there are many examples of well educated and even scientifically minded people making science-based, evolutionary-based, and historically-based arguments promoting racism and inferiority of races and cultures. Intellectualism and racism can join together.

I will eat my hat if you can show me such an instance.

From my own research with regards to your claim, I've only come across a couple loons who call themselves "scholars," but nothing credible.

If you look into eugenics programs, those are full of scientists, doctors, and other people arguing and themselves convinced that certain races are inferior and a detriment to other races. There are doctors, even in America, who have sterilized people against their will and without the patient's knowledge.

The Nazis especially combined scientific opinion and race theory, and believed in it so much that it inspired them to commit genocide. There were a lot of popular books in Austria and Germany, read by university students, intellectuals, etc. which made the case for racial superiority. It was pretty much racist philosophical thinkers and writers who came up with the concept of "Aryanism." I could look up the specific book and writer's name if you want, but I am familiar with this particular author writing about Aryanism/the people Indian subcontinent being very racially special and superior. She used a lot of early human history in her book, and she also included a lot of popular new age type of arguments as well. Her book was especially popular, and she had a lot to do with what an Aryan was. These writers grouped people, cultures, races, etc. in a hierarchical manner saying who was more superior than who. What I read was that people were essentially having the philosophical debate of: what if humans are like dogs, and some breeds are better than others? But it was a certain woman's book that really touched something within the Nazi movement, and it went from there.

Himmler, the architect of the Holocaust, was really deep into such writings and theories. He literally sent groups of Nazis to India, looking for proof that the German people and Indian Aryans were somewhere related. They took skull measurements and ran all kinds of scientific data, and, really, that's what the swastika is. It's Indian, and it's still in use as a symbol of Jainism in India.

I am just saying that doctors, philosophical thinkers and writers, university students, politicians, religious leaders, etc. very well educated people have historically been involved in racist ideology.
