Who makes/made better music, Adele or Amy Winehouse?

Both styles are rooted in jazz and rhythm and blues, and both have exceptionally powerful, lead female voices. Both deal with themes of heartache and scorned lovers, so, who's better?

As much as I love Amy's loyalty to the roots of jazz and as much as I love her bluesy, soulful voice, I give the nod to Adele. Maybe Winehouse never got with the right producer, to break her out the way Adele did?

There should be no debate here --- Adele reigns. Plus, her eye makeup is better.

I have to agree. Its not even close at all.

Amy Lee. Obviously.

Agreed. Too bad, because I think Winehouse had a really unique gift. Went into the booze/drugs to hard and fast.

I'd much rather listen to Winehouse.

She got a raw quality that's just goose-bump enhancing.

Adele is very polished, and in my opinion rather boring to watch. She's got pipes for sure, but I'd still rather listen to select Winehouse tracks than select Adele tracks.

There's gotta be at least 1 Winehouse fan around here.

I know what is wrong with these people. While I appreciate Adele's talent it's an absolute no brainer for me... Amy.

She would be the one.

I like Evanescence. Definitely one of those bands that reminds me of an ex girlfriend, (not in a bad way.)

They are (were, Amy RIP) both great talents. I would not want a world where I could only hear one of them.

I gotta give it to Adele. But in fairness to Amy Winehouse, she never really got the chance to mature as an artist the way Adele has. If she had, there's a very real possibility I'd be voting the other way.

A fine point, Winehouse only had two lp's

I love Adelle....but I have to go with to Amy...not just because I loved her voice...but because she also wrote her own songs. I think Back to Black is my favorite.

Adelle's song, Rolling in the Deep is great...but I find the rest of her songs kinda bland and lacking something. Whereas with Amy almost every song was really good and never get tired listening to her sing. Her voice was so unique....Adelle's, not so much.

Yeah, plus she wasn't working much for the last couple years of her life. She spent all of that time neck-deep in mental illness, addiction, and eventually serious physical ailments that affected her voice as well. So artistically speaking, she died long before her body did.

In terms of raw guts and talent, I prefer Amy Winehouse, and I think it's a travesty that we'll never know what she would have been. But I can't deny that Adele is the stronger artist on almost every level.

I voted Amy W., not because one artist is 'better' than another; I just don't care for Adele's music, as talented as she is

Adele seems to try too hard like it doesn't come natural to her & her sound IMO is too 'commercial'

Amy seemed to just have it naturally, not at all contrived, and certainly not commercial sounding

both have a cool 60s soul vibe that i really like. as a singer, i'm also impressed with both of their voices. i guess i don't really have a favorite between the two artists. i'm sorry that one of them died so young, and i'm glad that the other seems to be doing quite well.
