Ron Howard is taking over the Han Solo 'Star Wars' movie

Piracy plays into it as well. Making a film is a much bigger risk now, so the money goes to projects expected to bring the largest return. Niche movies are no longer subsidized.

I don't know if we should get into IP law or not.
I greatly disagree with the current situation and at the same time believe that they should be able to make money off of IP.
To me, reducing the length of ownership could induce a flurry of great indie movies.

I don't want to argue about it, either, but it's a real thing that puts real pressure on studios, and part of the reason they can't afford to experiment or go for smaller audiences.

Niche movies don't sell to international audiences as well.
It sucks, I hate it and I'm finding it harder and harder to find entertainment outside of Youtube videos and indie video games.

Star war movies was base of nothing at all but movie plots to begin with so why should not a fast action but more plot heavy movie base on well known science fiction books by a well known author not do as well or better if turn into movies?

Love to see the battle between Lensman Kinnison and Helmuth speaking for Boskone on film.

Oh here is some more information on an attempt to take this to film by Ron Howard of all people.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lensman_series#Film

In 2008, Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment and Universal Pictures began negotiations with the author's estate for rights to film the Lensman series. The negotiations were for an 18-month renewable option.[4] At the WonderCon convention in San Francisco in February 2008, J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of Babylon 5, confirmed that Howard had acquired the rights and also hinted that he was involved in the project.[5] On 17 June 2008, Straczynski wrote that he had begun work on the project.[6] On 2 April 2014, Straczynski wrote that Universal had scrapped the project, citing excessive cost and that the rights had reverted to the estate.[7]

They'll pretty much look at the box office for John Carter and say "yeah, no thanks."

It looks like his works will go into public domain in a few years.
So you may yet see a movie or series of, but they'll probably be indie films, if someone has the interest.

Keep your fingers crossed.

If when they produce John Carter they had been more faithful to the books and have naked actors and actresses they would likely needed a truck to carry the money away in...........

Nah. It just had no appeal. It's a total myth that nudity equates to bigger box office. G-rated movies make the most money, and PGs are second. To get the box office on something like John Carter, you need the kids. You don't get that with R, especially hard R.

I was kidding as far as the naked cast was concern anyway that why I placed the  in the post.

There doesn't necessarily have to have been a mess in the first place. The previous directors are competent.
If everything was peachy, the previous directors would still have their jobs. The producers were not happy for some reason.

Uh oh. Things are going from bad to worse on the Han Solo film:

Lucasfilm Unsatisfied With Alden Ehrenreich's Performance as Han Solo (Report)

As the Han Solo “Star Wars” movie prepares to move forward under new director Ron Howard, a report has surfaced that says Lucasfilm was not only displeased with the progress being made by recently fired filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, but also by the performance by the project’s leading man, Alden Ehrenreich.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm decided to hire an acting coach well into the film’s production in order to get a performance the studio felt Lord and Miller were not getting out of the actor.

Are they going to replace him too?

In the film business it could have been about ego and nothing more.
