Sunrise to Co-Produce Live-Action Cowboy Bebop TV Series - News - Anime News Network

Long rumored, looks to be happening. This could be really awesome, or Hollywood could totally ruin it...

Entertainment news magazine Variety and entertainment news website Deadline reported on Tuesday that Tomorrow Studios, a partnership between producer Marty Adelstein (Prison Break, Teen Wolf) and ITV Studios, will produce a live-action television series adaptation of the 1998 television anime Cowboy Bebop. Chris Yost (Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok) will write the adaptation.

The studio Sunrise, which animated the original series, will executive produce the live-action series. Other executive producers will include Adelstein, Becky Clements (Good Behavior, Aquarius), Midnight Radio, and Matthew Weinberg. Midnight Radio is composed of Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg.

Adelstein said, "We are excited to work with Sunrise in bringing this beloved anime to the U.S. and global marketplace as a live-action series." The producer also said, "The animated version has long resonated with audiences worldwide, and with the continued, ever growing, popularity of anime, we believe a live action version will have an incredible impact today.”

Love this news. Cowboy Bebop was a staple re-run on the ADULT SWIM lineup for something like 10 years.

Please, anything but another live-action anime... They're always so awful...

You clearly have never watched the live action Detroit Metal City(see if you can recognize the famous musician in the video):

...I'm on data in backwater rural georgia, so I'm having a hard time getting that video to load. The first sixteen seconds were whelming enough.

Who's the musician?

Producers are starting to come around that there's nothing wrong with making a movie exactly like the Anime. As long as it has...
1. Jet, Spike, Ed, Ein, and Faye
2. who are bounty Hunters,
3. on a ship called "Cowboy Bebop",
4. operating in our solar system

then they've already overcome 50% of the hurdles that these anime adaptations have.

Video-games have had this problem for a very long time too.

Gene Simmons. Movie is worth watching actually, though the anime is alot better. What made the anime great is that it is offensive to every one, in every possible way. The movie had to tone some of that back.

That does sounds like something I'd enjoy.

Speaking of offending everyone, are you familiar with the utter gem that is the English dub of Ghost Stories?

What I am worried about is that it has this level of knowledge:

cowboybebopclip14.jpg

That is a real newspaper clipping from an article on anime. Every word in the caption is wrong except "at".

On a related note, anyone seen Ghost in the Shell yet?

Based on the previews, I was concerned they were gonna wreck.

I am equally concerned for Cowboy Beebop.

However, thus far, Marvel has had a pretty decent batting average...and if they can do it, why not someone else?

Let's see dragon ball, speed racer, attack on titan, ghost in the Shell... what makes you think it could be really awesome?

Because the source material is good, and Hollywood does occasionally make good movies. I do not expect it is going to be all that great, but I have hope...

That's the problem, movies pretty much always destroy source material. It would probably end up being better if the source material was junk.
