Are there any fans of the books here?
I absolutely loved that series. Well...as well as I could love anything written by King. He has this thing in all his books that sort of bugs me: Excellent lead-in which grabs you on page one, great character development, wonderfully fluid middle parts that build suspense, but then he usually lays an egg in the ending. Dark Tower fits that profile to a Tee.
Anyway, I read recently that the book series was more like a cartoon come to life. I did not get that sense at all. I read it as a cross between a Spaghetti Western and a dystopian future like WestWorld. In my head, Roland was a little more Yul Brenner than Clint Easwood, and not at all cartoonish. The closest I could come to when thinking "cartoon" would be the train gone insane. But, I didn't mind. I loved that character.
Now there is a movie coming. Certainly not a cartoon. Idris Alba--one of my favorite actors--plays the Gunslinger. And, Mathew McConaughey--another favorite actor--plays the Dark Man. Talk about a film that calls me out by name.
I think I'll go see it. I hope it doesn't disappoint.
