'Sir Roger Moore has died, aged 89.

The actor’s family confirmed he had passed away in a statement on Tuesday.

Roger Moore had already found fame as one of England’s most popular TV stars when he was handed his big screen licence to kill.'

R.I.P.

For a ridiculously handsome and very successful actor...he seemed quite down-to-earth in the interviews I saw of him.

R.I.P.

He was in a TV series called "The Saint", I remember watching that as a kid. This was prior to his movie role as James Bond. Val Kilmer didn't do it justice later in the movie version.

Great show.

Rest in peace, Sir Roger Moore.

'The Saint' predicted Roger Moore would become James Bond a decade early

Probably best remembered for The Saint but Moore also was a regular in Ivanhoe, The Alaskans, Maverick, The Persuaders, and The Dream Team.

May be blasphemy but, while Connery originated the role, I think Moore was the best Bond.

R.I.P.

He lived at a 20 min drive from my place. May he R.I.P. I've heard from friends who've met him he was quite a polite, outgoing, nice & charming gentleman.

Dear god, he was not.

He was if you consider the whole Bond thing was just tongue in cheek, over the top BS. Connery played it straight. Moore played it perfectly, with the right mix of light comedy. Very British.

Fact is the Bond series was calling for a character somewhere between Connery's Bond and Austin Powers. And, that was Roger Moore. However, a lot of people do not like that Moore brought out the humor. They wanted bond to be their "hero."

Although I think Sean Connery is the best Bond (he was both tough and charming) I dont think the franchise would have survived had it not been for Roger Moore- he played Bond for laughs because he realized that it had become a bit of a joke by the 1970's. If they had played it straight like he was portrayed in the books, the franchise wouldnt have lasted- even Connery made a joke or two every now and then.

The worst imo, was Dalton and Lazenby. The former played him like a boring stiff, while the latter couldnt act.

Dalton and Laz were absolutely horrible. I slightly remember the Remington Steele guy being somewhat charming and lightly comic. But, that was a long time ago and my memory on his role has faded...can't even remember the films he made.

After Connery the producers were wise to change the tone becsause no one could be James Bond like Connery
