“[She] has the biggest new part in the movie and ironically is played by the smallest actor,” director Rian Johnson said while introducing the actress.

“She’s part of the Resistance, and she works in maintenance. I can’t wait for you to meet her,” said Tran, an Asian American comedian known for her digital shorts.


“She’s not a soldier,” Johnson explained. “She’s not looking to be a hero, and she gets pulled a very big way into an adventure in this movie with Finn [John Boyega].”


Judging by the prolonged hug she had with Mark Hamill, Rose and Luke Skywalker may share screen time as well.

I like to think of Star Wars as an inclusive universe. One where humanity is no longer dealing with the issues which keep us from reaching our full potential now. Race, gender, sexuality no longer matter because we have come into contact with other species. Instead, we are fighting for our basic survival and freedoms with and against them.

Judging by the comments on Yahoo, there will be a lot of butthurt on the new Star Wars.

Oh well.

Star Wars has become nothing more than a feminists/PC nonsense parade. Of course, I never liked the original Star Wars either, but still. I honestly don't even know why people go to see these kind of movies when this is the kind of crap they have to deal with.

The corollary is true too: just because a white is cast in what would be based on source material a nowhite does not mean it is "whitewashing". The problem with for example Ghost in the Shell was not a white playing what was in the manga a Japanese character, that was simply done because no Japanese American actresses would command the attention that Johannson would. I think every single time race comes up, a large portion of the world turns stupid.

Meh, the original star wars just kind of sucked. I just don't get what people saw in them. The story lines were kind of meh, the characters were awful, the acting of some of the actors was terrible, the logic behind certain things was terrible, and the main character was weak and pathetic.
