How is the anime watching going?

I finished Code Gease- which had a very good storyline- interesting and complex. I'm now finishing up the first season of Knights of Sidonia and will start on season 2.

What Im doing is skipping past the anime trope scenes like teen angst, teenage flirtation/jealousy and the usual stuff. I want to get right to the meat of the story. So far its working.

For those interested, PVs for a couple upcoming series I am looking forward to have come out recently. The first is A Centaur's Life, which takes place in a world where every one is an animal person of some sort, centaur, angel, devil, cat person, and so on. ANd it is a pretty craptastic world where political correctness has run wild, the government seems to some extent fascist, and so on. To quote TV tropes entry on the series

There are a million seemingly innocent things that can get you jailed for "hate crime", including accepting a lift from a centaur friend (you slave driver!) or being an angel who cut off the wrong bit of hair (you're rejecting your race! You are guilty of hate crime against yourself!). Made worse by...
The fact that talking about hate crime is a hate crime. Not only could you could be arrested without having any idea what you did wrong (after all, no-one's told you about it...because they're not allowed to), but you could be arrested for trying to warn something that their actions might be illegal.
Japanese hate crime laws are so strict that just insulting or stereotyping someone based on racial characteristics can result in the death penalty.

But it is not about that. It is about the everyday life of some school kids. The manga is awesome, one of my favorites.

The other is The Ancient Magus Bride. A teenage girl is bought as a slave by an inhuman British sorcerer, who first says he will teach her magic, then announces he will marry her. Adventure and romance ensue. Much better than it sounds:

Attack On Titan season 3 confirmed for next year.

Now going through Aldnoah Zero season 1.

Not bad. Animation is excellent. still the usual tropes of high school students being better than everyone else but aside from that its quite good. Very similar to Code Gease.

finally got around to watching attack on titian 2

I ship it!

OK, I sort of bit the bullet and began watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes. First two episodes in the can and so far its ... passable. I guess I'm interested in watching more of it simply because Im so sick of watching the other anime shows in which high school students mop the floor with all these robots and stuff.

This series isnt very realistic either- but at least the main characters go through slightly more realistic progressions (but not by much).

Typical space opera tropes though: every planet is always earth-like with identical gravity and atmosphere. Ships seem to have artificial gravity (and huge windows, even on warships?!) and get easily destroyed after taking a few hits (no shields, which is a relief), the battles seem to take place in 2 dimensions (completely ignoring the directionless void of space even though it takes place in space) much like old WW1 battleship fleets.

Anyway it seems epic enough to keep on watching.

Current:
One Piece - Need to catch up on, I'm way behind
Knights and Magic - Interesting Medieval Mech
My hero academy
Attack on Titan
Boruto

Older:
Code Grass
Bleach
Full Metal Panic
Full Metal Alchemist
Naruto
Death Note
Hajime No Ippo

Lesser Known:
Linebarrels of Iron
Elfen Lied
Yu yu Hakusho

It is hard to really pick favorites, I even like anime regarding topics I don't even like. I hate baseball but love Ace no Diamond. Even though they are all practically the same story I like all of the sports anime from Eyeshield21, Kuroko No Basket, and even Haikyu (volleyball anime)

I am currently reading the novel(the 6th LN in the series) the movie is based on. Very interesting, deals with the great war that led to Tet becoming Old Deus. Alot darker than what has come earlier in the series.

Looks like Amazon's Anime Strike is getting some good shows for the fall season.

For those unfamiliar, the second one, UQ Holder, is the sequel series to Negima.

Lol, I feel like such an idiot. I read the manga for UQ and never made the connection to Negima.

1. Dragon Ball Z (Funimation Dub with amazing soundtrack of Bruce Faulconer)

2. Death Note (except for the final season)

3. Code Geass (only Lelouch of the Rebellion)

4. Monster

Anything from this century? :2razz:

Everything else sucks royally. I don't really like anime apart from the first three on my list, the fourth was somewhat decent but I'd probably scratch that one too.

Knights of Sidonia is pretty darn good. I just skip past the angst and teen love anime tropes because its present in every series in the genre.

Sounds interesting, I’ll definitely check it out one day.
