ok eva spoilers dont watch if you dont want to know

For any one who was not aware, a Fullmetal Alchemist live action movie is being made, due out in December. Looks like it could be good:

I just watched the first few episodes of Evangelion and its exactly like the old super robot shows I remember as a little kid lol. All the tropes are present so far.

I actually prefer shows that subvert the usual tropes and I hope the ones you guys recommended work out. I shall be queuing them up next.

lol

Um.

Subverting your expectations and turning tropes on their ear is exactly what Evangelion is known for... it's a deconstruction of mecha anime.

The only thing that lessens that vibe is that so many things copied style and plot elements from Eva since it was a big hit.

New season of Attack on Titan is 2 episodes old now. Got to finally start getting caught up on my anime viewing and started there. If you liked the first season of Attack on Titan, you will like the new season.

Edit: Oh, and seeing adds for it on commercial TV is amusing and kinda cool. Oh how anime has grown the last few years in the US.

What network!??

Through 2 episodes, Clockwork Planet is really average. Kinda cool premise, I love the clockwork motif used everywhere in it, but the plot and characters so far are meh.

Kado: The Right Answer was all sorts of meh.

Love Tyrant is a parody of Death Note. Meh.

So far, the best show of the season has the stupidly long title of WorlEnd: What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us?. However, it is really good. Visually appealing, good animation, only the barest hint of plot so far, but the mysteries of what is going on really draws you in, making you want to find out. It looks like it may be a show that mixes cutesy elements with very dark elements(kinda like School Live or Dusk Maidens of Amnesia). It is also quite possible the use of the song Scarborough Faire is meaningful, about giving a lover impossible tasks, but that is more guess than really supported by evidence(note: the song is sung by a woman named Tamaru Yamada for the show, who has like the perfect voice for it).

OK so I finished Evangelion- and my verdict is ... meh.

It had some interesting elements but totally eschewed it for a teenage angst filled plotline with metaphysical elements. I didnt like the main character at all. He would run away for five minutes and then come back again. Redress is right, its pretty overrated. 5/10

I stopped watching FM Alchemist, not because I didnt like it but rather it was set in the genre I wasnt interested in which was urban fantasy. I'll probably watch it with my son once he gets older.

I started Code Gease, and its somewhat interesting. The plotline has got some good political elements in it, but I tend to skip over the high school stuff. It seems every anime show always has high school geniuses who are better than everybody and are prophesied to save the world and all that. Other than that trope, it seems okay. I like the robots with the roller skates though, that's new. lol

I'm really leaning towards Legend of Galactic Heroes, but I'm gonna try the shorter series first like Alnodah Zero and valve the liberator.

I thought the conspiracies with NERV, Magi, Adam, and about Shinji's mother were interesting and I felt those episodes were the best. The problem was they went overboard on the metaphysical angst. One episode was okay I guess, but stretching it to two episodes without properly explaining what truly happened was too much, imo.

if you mean the ending i thinck they ran out of budget and the director had a nervous brake down

So pretty much yeah the metaphysics and the character deconstruction became the center of the show, and yeah, with the final two episodes they timeskip ahead, only alluding to real world events with a few still frames.

They did a mostly-introspection like episode like that once before, as you may recall, when Unit 01 had gone berserk meaning 400%+ synch ratio meaning the pilot's AT field breaks down and their body even liquifies... until about a month later when Shinji is finally able to reassert himself and reconstitute his body... this is in episode 20, and yeah, it's kind of important within the scifi mechanics of the show.

My question to you would be did you JUST watch the series? There is a movie, End of Evangelion... and its two halves are subtitled Episode 25' and Episode 26'.

Because infamously the series ending made a lot of people upset because we didn't get to see what happened... episode 25 happens and they tell you instrumentality has already begun... so like there is sort of an explanation in that Shinji is so mentally broken by killing his only friend, the only person who was kind to him (in any recent sense) that he just fades in and out of awareness himself and he's the main point of view character... but that's a cop out.

Realistically, I think they just ran out of budget and they were popular and hoped they'd get to make a movie / already knew they were going to get to make the movie; as much of a fanboy as I am, I don't know the definitive answer to that and I'm not sure GAINAX ever made it public anyway. I DO know that they were running into issues with censors.

But yeah, the movie "End of Evangelion" deals with finality regarding Gendo, Misato, Ritsuko, Asuka and the rest of NERV as well as what the various conspiracies were and what instrumentality is.

The first half involves some incredible action sequences, the second half does involve more metaphysics; since I actually like that stuff I wasn't complaining... but it explains what's happening and why better than the show does anyway.

I can't describe End of Evangelion as particularly satisfying because a) it's kind of a mind**** event movie and b) well, like I said it deals in finality. It is very grim, and very very dark. You also couldn't get it past Japanese or American censors... I mean they tell you they want to avoid Third Impact because it would be the end of the world. Part of that is right.

I do recommend if you watched the series in its entirety to finish it by watching the film. I make no promises that you will like it better than the episode 25-26 ending, but with that ending you only get one tiny resolution inside one character's head and it doesn't even show you what happens after, in the real world.

Sorry Ive already moved on from Evangelion. I got a huge lineup of shows I gotta watch so no point in wasting another two hours just for the movie version ending.

OK, halfway done with Code Gease and should finish in a week or so.

I just watched one episode of Knights of Sidonia and it's excellent. Best anime so far and Im getting a lot of material for it. The only drawback so far is the simple facial animations so its hard to tell who is who at times.

How is the anime watching going?

If you have not watched My Hero Academia yet, I cannot recommend it enough, if just to get to this weeks episode, which was absolutely amazing. Epic tournament fight scene, with emotion, with explosions, with excitement, and just an all out spectacle. I do not even generally get into shonen fighting anime, but holy hell, this was really good stuff.

1) Voices of a Distant Star
2) Ergo Proxy
3) Blood +
4) Naruto
5) Attack on Titan

Honorable Mention) Claymore
