What’s an anime?
 
Have not done this in awhile, so here is a quick look at what I am watching, Spring 2022 season:

Spy X Family - Best thing to come along in a long time. It has this perfect combination of hilariously funny, heartwarming, action and violence, and feels. A spy, an assassin, and a telepathic 5 year old form a family, with only the 5 year old knowing both parents secrets(and she does not really understand it).

Kaguya-Sama; Love Is War, season 3 - Still good, still funny.

Komi-San Can't Communicate, Season 2 - If you liked the first season, you will like the second. If you did not like the first season, what the hell is wrong with you.

Love After World Domination - What if one of the Power Rangers fell head over heals for one of the female villains. Good, lighthearted fun.

That is about it. Not much time for TV lately. If you have not checked it out yet, Spy X Family really is just that good.

Anyone else familiar with Heavens Lost Property? In some ways it’s a typical gonzo sex comedy at times, but other times HLP seems to be shooting for more mythic content. The two seasons ran before the manga finished, so I may try to read that before making a judgement.

The simplest definition of anime is Japanese cartoons made mostly for a Japanese audience(this part is what separates it from animation work that outsourced to Japan from other countries). Back in the 90s I think it was called Japanimation.
 
My anime tastes are pretty mainstream, so off the top of my head and in no particular order:

1. Cowboy Bebop
2. Fullmetal Alchemist (Both series)
3. Demon Slayer
4. Dorohedoro (I hope someone other than Netflix picks this up for a second season if Netflix cannot afford to front the cash)
5. Last Exile
6. Blue Submarine No. 6
7. One Punch Man
8. Anything by Miyazaki
9. Anything by Osamu Tezuka

Mine are rather mainstream as well. I don't care for mechs or samurai so there's like half the amine right there.

Not sure if it counts as anime but Arcane is pretty solid on Netflix.
 
Found a tv show from 2011 I’d never heard of; Guilty Crown. Ran 2 seasons but unlike some anime serials it managed to wrap up most of its story arcs. Good design work, interesting characters.
 
New season starts October 1, and it starts really well:
