Here's to horrible songs that never would have existed if not for MTV

The epitome of mindless MTV crap

Redeemable ONLY because of that chicks eyes

Awful. Just freaking horrible. Kind of like deep fried sugar coated sugar

saw these guys open for The Police in Rochester in 1980something. 39,000 of the 40,000 people in the audience headed to the tunnels and got in line for a beer when they came on. As an aside, The Fixx also opened and were pretty damned good

Ho Lee Crap. This was horrible

This may have been worse

all 3 of those rock!!!!

If the 1910 Fruitgum Company had impregnated the Archies the Go Go's would have been the result

The English invaded again in the 80's. The Rolling Stones and Beatles weren't part of the invasion

I don't know where these mopes came from but.....somebody obviously left the door open by mistake

Walking on Sunshine? BURN IN HELL!!!!

From the first wave of "It's Tuesday. Maybe I'll slit my wrists" bands

While other bands were making music Toto decided to make this

I think you are closer to right than the OP. Hungry like a wolf is widely praised as one of the best videos ever made. The bangles were pretty good musicians, like the GO GOs they actually wrote most of their stuff and played their own instruments.

some of the real MTV turkeys came from bands that had a really good pedigree. "WE Built this City" by the Starship was one of the real nadirs but its not like Grace et al were lightweights.

you basically don't like pop-rock which is the stuff you are bashing. Head over Heels was a pretty good tune and I saw them play it live and it was good. Come on Eileen makes most lists of "Great one hit wonders" along with stuff like Blues Image "Ride Captain Ride" or Jesus Jones (a big MTV band) Right here Right now

Umm you missed the easiest one of them..

But the Bangles actually had some hits and it was actually their cover of "Going Down to Liverpool" that got them noticed because it had Leonard Nimoy in it.

Speaking of just flat out sucking

Then there were the groups that once had greatness and then totally destroyed themselves

There were lots of great bands in the 80's. This wasn't one of them

See, this thread is about songs (and bands) that sucked. That song was actually pretty good.

Yes. Pop rock sucked before MTV and after MTV is metastasized.

Look, I freely admit that I'm bitter. MTV came out and I thought "Gee! This has potential!" then one of my favorite bands came out with this

It wasn't a horrible song but it was a million miles from Whammer Jammer or Houseparty

At pretty much the same time Van Halen did this

It was a great video and a great song but it was also obvious that they were playig for the TV crowd instead of the concert crowd.

Then there was this

The girl I asked to prom LOVED this song and I tried to like it just to grease the rails but I couldn't handle it

The only good thing Adam Ant did was Chris Evert

Barf!

Could the 80's make Frank Zappa suck? They came mighty damned close!

This guy had talent!

Fortunately, Danny Elfman gave up on new wave crap for production and has since written the soundtrack for, like, half the damned movies in Hollywood.

I actually liked Oingo Boingo but I'd never admit that in public.

No, this thread is about songs (and bands) you THINK sucked. It's like saying Wham! or Culture Club sucked. The Bangles was a headliner in the 1980s. A-ha sold over 100m records in their career and was nominated as Best New Group in 1986 where they lost to Sade.

You're complaining about my parents generation ruining music. Just to make you feel old. ;)

Wham and Culture Club did suck. Their only saving grace was that Millie Vanlli sucked more

Look, I know some of you are going to defend the 80's but this

was a great video while still being a horrible cover. You want solid Run DMC? Go for "My Adidas"

Am I going to take grief for this? Yes, I'm quite sure I am. This song sucked

Yeah. It's a classic. Yeah, it's the poster child for the 80's. It also SUCKED!

Your parents generation didn't ruin music as it was the generation that brought New Wave, Rock, Heavy Metal and Rap to the mainstream. Rather it was the foundation that led to your generation music. It had to happen.. you don't go from Disco to The Strokes, the Killers or Kaiser Chiefs.. or even Pitbull or whatever group you wan to name.

1) Wham! and Culture Club didn't suck. You may not of liked them.. but how many records did you sell?

2) Milli Vanilli were late 1980s as society was starting to mesh genres together and Grunge was forming.
