So due to another thread about a certain show on Netflix I found an announcement trailer for a new show on Netflix called Anne, co-produced by the CBC, the 942nd adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. And I personally find this hilarious, it is being written and produced by Moira Walley-Beckett, one of the producers and writers of Breaking Bad. That is quite a change from producing and writing for an incredibly popular show about a bald man making meth to a girl's coming-of-age drama for the CBC.

For those of you who do not know Anne of Green Gables is a series of books featuring a red-haired orphan girl in 1890s Prince Edward Island about a girl's coming of age and going through life.

I think it has promise, it has a star-studded team behind it and may be the first decent show CBC has made in a very long time. I just found it hilarious someone can go form Breaking Bad to something like this.

I will leave the announcement trailer here:

If they do half the job their predecessor did with an Anne of Green Gables TV series, they'll have a serious hit on their hands. It's been many years, but I can still hear her guardian's voice. The cast in that production was excellent beyond belief.

For me this is what I remember:

I blame this show and Pippi Longstocking for my love of ginger girls. Even almost 15 years later I can still sing-a-long word for word.

Here's the one I remember...still a ginger. (This might have been the final scene in the series...)

Ahhh, memories. Thanks for bringing them back.

Well it seems this time around they are focusing on her as a child/teen. The 14-year old actor that plays her stars in every episode and the CBC said the show will focus on: “timeless and topical issues including themes of identity, feminism, bullying and prejudice,” which sounds like something that can only be done with Anne as a child/young teen. I bet at least one episode is going to have a Black Loyalist child be ostracized and Anne will convince everyone to be his friend by the end.

well there could be some personality parallels between episode 1 Walt and Mathew, being the type everybody walks all over.

And maybe they can add some commentary on how Marilla practically just wanted free labor on Green Gables, thought she found the loophole.

I read that book in 7th grade and thought it to be darker then most of my classmates did. I especially hated the ending, never read any of the sequel books

I don't think that is going to happen.

here is another odd breaking bad connection

No it's not.

But I still think Marilla is my least favorite character in literary fiction, partly because I think were supposed to warm up to her throughout thr book, but her attitude when adopting a kid, the self serving motivation to adopt, her getting ready to send Anne back ad then deciding not to solely because she doesn't like another potential parent to Anne. I couldn't warm to her, still didn't like her at the end.

That being said I would love to visit the Green Gables (national?) park on PEI sometime. I'm thinking in a few years I'll take a trip to Maine to look at historical lighthouses and make a loop through Nova Scotia to the island

It is a national historic site. I don't know about the books, in the kid's show that I remember she was always kind of mean.
