A Tribute To Metal [W 15]

And yes, I worked 10 years in a hard-rock and metal bar in the 80's so I have heard loads of metal and hard rock. Even cross over sounds like this one (with Slayer singer Arraya in a bit part), Suicidal tendencies with Institutionalized

I just thought today would be a good day to start a thread celebrating the greatness of metal.

Two bands........early pioneers of the genre......

I saw/heard both these bands several times at Winterland.
That fact may help explain some of my current hearing loss.

I think anyone who bangs their head in a wild careless manner, a metal head. ;)

No, just no, really not. Def Leppard banged their heads (somewhat IMO) in a wild and careless manner, but it did not make them a metal head. And no gigantic group of people could make me think Poison was a metal band. Glam rock yes, metal no.

This is metal (Testament over the wall)

And no matter how much I love hearing Bon Scott telling us "in the beginning, back in 1955, man didn't know about a rock and roll show" and that "let there be sound, let there be lights, let there be drums, let there be guitars, let there be rock" as much as the next Hard Rocker and most metal fans, but it is "let there be rock", not "let there be metal" ;)

Damn, well, I cannot help posting Let there be Rock, now can I.

Looking for roots for metal

Even before that you had The Sonics from the psychedelic side

and the Yardbirds from the blues side

The MC5 also had a neighbor doing some of the same stuff

Metal Chicks are bad ass.

Is there a metal song that rages against the common cold, or is that perhaps a punk thing?

Lol, why, you gotta cold? I'm just getting over one. Luckily, it wasn't too severe.

Less commercial stuff later, and add your own favorites!

I don't think Black Sabbath is metal. Didn't Jethro Tull win something for "metal"? Ian Anderson's heavy metal flute no doubt. I looked it up, a Grammy. The voters were thick as a brick.

it was metal AND/OR hard rock and having seen Tull/Anderson several times-yeah they are hard rock

might make up for the idiotic decision that keeps them out of the RR Hall of fame

I wouldn't classify Songs from the Woods as hard rock. They do a mix, I consider them classic rock. Even a hard rock flute is a bit iffy. I love Bouree and The Whistler. Not metal or hard rock by any stretch of the imagination. Never saw them live so you have a different perspective.

I was just coming off of one, then I think I am coming with another. It hasn't stopped in weeks.

There is in fact a band that has a song doing just that:

I think that's the sound I made when I got hit with the stomach flu twice this late fall and early winter.
