Since I couldnt find the previous thread, well here's another!

Tell us about the last movie youve watched and rate it!

Saul fia (2015) - IMDb

About a sonderkommando (prisoner who does the dirty work in a Nazi death camp, like sorting through clothing and disposing of the bodies) who becomes obsessed with trying to bury a dead body. Has a similar story to a previous movie titled The Grey Zone (2001) - IMDb

The steadycam and frequent closeups give it a realistic feel, but it all seems too contrived, especially when the protagonist constantly engages in such risks and it was baffling to me why so many of his fellow prisoners were helping him even though he was putting them in danger with his mad scheme. The aforementioned Grey Zone movie is superior to this one, I think. 6/10

I dont think it is just you....that thread tends to get either pulled or hidden or something I think. Several times I have tried to find it and not.

I saw Fences last week, really great. I loved the play as well. The story is powerful, it just keeps coming at you. Denzel Washington is the best I have ever seen him.

Tonight we watched "Scully" - great story but dreadful composition to tell the story and horrible directing. Even Tom Hanks couldn't salvage it for us.

Otherwise we have been enjoying old movies on DVD--in the last two days watched "A Few Good Men", "Chocolat", and "Where Eagles Dare", all classics that we never tire of.

I was at the time and for a long time after pretty sure that this guy must be a cowboy with undeserved adoration and fame because he did not need to land on the water and wreck a very expensive aircraft. This was one of those times when I have been wrong.

Did simulations really show that Sully could have made it back to the airport?
Yes, but mainly only when the "human factor" was omitted. Several months after the ditching, nearly two dozen emergency simulations were flown at the Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France. Four out of four simulations were successful when the pilots returned to the closest LaGuardia runway. However, in the simulations the decision to turn back was made immediately after the engines blew. The simulated scenarios didn't account for the "human factor," essentially the 30 seconds it took to decide what to do. Nine more simulated attempts to land at LaGuardia were conducted, taking into account the human factor and variables like landing at a different LaGuardia runway or landing with the plane more severely disabled. Only three of those attempts were successful. In the end, the FAA agreed with what Sullenberger stated in his book, "I had to be certain we could make it," he wrote, because "it would rule out every other option" and could kill "who knows how many people on the ground." There was no guarantee that the 70-ton glider would clear Manhattan's skyline. -The Wall Street Journal
Sully Movie vs True Story of Miracle on the Hudson, Flight 1549

Sully Movie vs True Story of Miracle on the Hudson, Flight 1549

And I was unaware that there was any controversy at all until this movie. (But Sullenberger himself signed off on and approved the screen play and after reading up on it last night, the story line seems to be pretty accurate. I still think the composition of the movie dreadful and while Eastwood is usually a very good director, I think he missed several opportunities to portray the true impact of the 'miracle' and put more heart into it. As for the screenplay, it should have started with the crash itself and then moved into the effect on Sully, the ptsd, etc. and the investigation. But that's just my personal preferences. The movie itself got great ratings.

Tonight we will watch too more of our favorite classic movies: "My Cousin Vinny" and "Renaissance Man" both brilliantly conceived, acted, and a pure delight to watch.

Best line in My Cousin Vinny: "I bet the Chinese food here is terrible!"

:) There are so many absolutely perfect lines in "My Cousin Vinny" I don't know if I could choose just one; i.e. "Now I ask you, would you care what kind of pants the son-of-a-bitch who shot you was wearing?"

Then again, has Denzel Washington ever made a bad movie?

It was 4 pages back. :2razz:

Don't watch much TV, usually sports, and haven't been to a theater in years; think Blackhawk Down was the last one.

Saw The Man Who Knew Infinity, based on a true story on a recent transatlantic flight, and loved it. Did some reading about Srinivasa Ramanujan after watching the flick and... what a shame he died so young. A tremendous, inspiring story.

Of the three movies here... this was my favorite... probably because it was so totally unexpected. I had no clue what I was getting into... it is the rare story of true genius... hauled out of the middle of nowhere... because he was a true genius.
...

Also watched Meryl Streep/Hugh Grant/Simon Helberg (Big Bang Theory) in Florence Foster Jenkins (based on a true story) and howled, winced and choked up... thought she did a great job. Was surprised to see Helberg played piano, and was credited with it in the credits.
...

Watched Snowden too. (I love biographies)... and think this was a very good job by Stone. Another obviously brilliant mind... coupled with principle... Snowden.

99.99% find it tough to walk to the beat of their own drummer in life... then try it when it's out of sync with the government of the United States. That's Snowden. Cajones the size of Mars.

I think of this guy... 29 at the time, and so clear of thought... mature. At 29... doing what he did... mind blowing.

Just watched "Moon."

Loved it. Intelligent, disturbing, explores social implications of technology: A proper sci-fi movie.

Finally a break from "action" movies that call themselves sci-fi only because they're in the future.

I dont usually watch this sort of thing but I was in a mood. Very well done. This was made in Michigan, it really drives home how economically desolate areas feel like the places that time forgot. Liked the lead actress quite a lot.

Got around to seeing Casino.

It was enjoyable enough, but I'm not sure if it matches up with some of the hype. Seemed like a somewhat overlong and less engaging version of Goodfellas, set in a casino.

I thought it was better than Goodfellas, much more polished. In a way its sort of like a companion movie to it.

Logan (2017) - IMDb

An R-rated superhero movie with Hugh Jackman. Its supposed to be set in the future, but other than a bunch of guys with cyborg hands, the cars and everything else looked the same as our timeline. It tries hard to be dark and gritty, but it seemed forced to me. I didnt have much sympathy for the characters either. The fight sequences are visceral and bloody, but everything else seems flat. 6/10

Currently watching Dr. Strange. Maybe an hour in.

Not impressed.

At.

All.

We needed something watch last night so my wife picked JACKIE. What a lousy movie. It was so bad that we only got about 25 minutes or so into and and both of agreed there was nothing to like about it and found it beyond depressing. Every single actor in the film was horribly miscast and it was like some horror TV show on cable trying to push the envelope being as weird as possible.

Watched STRANGE a few days ago. Thought it was interesting for all the eye candy special effects and visuals - and thats about it.

Watched The Shack a few days ago. Pretty good movie. Have a lot of tissues handy.
