Inauguration performer Jackie Evancho’s album sales skyrocket

So, a nobody.

This little girl is not a nobody, she is a somebody. Real talent isn't measured by albums sales. Is your definition of classic music Britney Spears?

O.K., no peeking!

I feel strong on two:

#2 = 9

#3 = JS Bach

I'm lost on two others:

#1

#5

And think I should get partial credit for one:

#4 = I know the general pop form, but can't verify that translates to the same form in classical music.

So, do I get to go to Disney World?

1. James Levine. We actually had the privilege of seeing him conduct the Chicago Symphony during our recent visit to the city on Election Night. Seeing him conduct at all is getting to be a rare thing, because he suffers from Parkinson's Disease. He performed from a wheel chair, but he put on a great concert nonetheless. He ranks up there among the greatest conductors/music directors ever. He's received numerous honors and awards, including Kennedy Center Honors and the George Peabody Award.

2. Correct. Beethoven wrote nine symphonies. Among the most recognizable pieces of music ever scored were the first movement from his 5th Symphony and his Ode to Joy from the fourth movement of his 9th Symphony.

3. Correct. Johann Sebastian Bach. The closest I've ever come to an epiphany was hearing a Bach fugue played at Aachen Cathedral in Aachen, Germany.

4. Serenade: "In music, a serenade (or sometimes serenata, from the Italian word) is a musical composition, and/or performance, in someone's honor. Serenades are typically calm, light music" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serenade).

5. George Frederic Handel (Georg Friedrich Händel). He's probably my favorite Baroque-era composer. His Messiah is in a league of its own:

(You can only give the work justice by playing it on a home theater system and then cranking it up to where it's blowing the ceiling off of your house. Be sure to do that to your neighbors on Christmas Eve, or, since New Year's Eve is just around the corner, try his Music for the Royal Fireworks instead. ;))

Do you get a trip to Disney World? Not on my dime, but I highly recommend it. Been there four times. :2wave:

Now there is a musical art form though, classical Americana of sorts - at least according to Alan Lomax, where I'm a bit stronger; though unlike his Mississippi Delta recordings, I much prefer the urban early electric Chicago sound:

I have to admit, this is one area of music I am woefully, shamefully lacking in. We live in Mississippi, well south the Delta (on the Gulf Coast in fact), but about ninety minutes east of New Orleans. I've only been to the Delta area once. The state has made an effort to promote tourism with its Mississippi Blues Trail with some success. As an aside, David Letterman had Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones on his show after they received Kennedy Center Honors as members of Led Zeppelin. Another honoree was Buddy Guy, and Letterman asked the band members about Guy's influence on the band. Jimmy Page's response was most enlightening, with him mentioning Guy, Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, and your man, Howlin' Wolf. I don't think there's any question about the influence the Blues had on some of these great, classic, especially British, rock bands/acts.

No surprise you see the usual suspects attacking a girl! Give me a break. Calling a girl a "nobody" or "loser."

In fairness to Chomsky, he said he'd never heard of her. That's a far cry from calling her a "nobody" or a "loser." I think Trump is going to have a great inaugural ceremony, although I expect leftists will attempt to disrupt it.

Sidenote: I think the greatest entertainment I could enjoy from some of these liberal performers who refuse to perform at Trump's inauguration is to leave the country as they had promised. I'd buy a ticket to watch the mass exodus...all of them. Here are a few of the procrastinators: These 23 Celebrities Said They'll Leave The Country If Trump Wins - Catherine Dunn

Cher's got a problem getting that flight to Jupiter. She might have to settle for moving to Brooklyn with Spike Lee, where, perversely, they can be Trump's neighbors when he visits New York.

You sound like you hand out participation trophies like it's the Lord's work.

The funny thing is your comment veers completely off topic. If you're gonna get preachy, at least stay on topic.

You attack a young girl as a nobody. Do you feel proud attacking others?

I'm not attacking anyone, I was stating a fact.

Another fact: water is wet.

This little girl probably has accomplished more than you have in your entire life.

Question who is the youngest artist to go platinum in the United States?

I'm just stating facts.

What place did you come in?

Fletch, I was initially angry at Van Basten however I forgive him.

You see, liberals often time lack faith in their lives. They have a very weak value system so often times they cling to concepts like global warming and protecting the rights of terrorists. When one's value system is completely bankrupt, likely many of these liberals, they have long odds in becoming decent human beings.

Van Basten and many of his kind are rank hypocrites. They often claim they are for minority/women rights. They attacked Donald Trump endlessly for the comments he supposedly made.

But here you have a liberal personally attacking a 16-year old for what? Deciding to sing at the inauguration ceremony, one of the highest honors one can receive.

That is simply cowardly and those attacking those that are bravely participating in this joyous event are just as spineless.

Probably, does not change that Trump is stuck with a nobody.

You can try to fight this all you want, won't change anything.

Calling a little girl a nobody is simply sad. I hope you do not have a daughter.

Who?

If she was an unknown (it sounds like she was), it might not be as difficult as you think to "quadruple" sales. She may have had few sales to begin with. I never heard of her.

Really? Since being the runner up on "America's Got Talent" in 2010, Jackie has racked up six albums, including a platinum and gold album and three Billboard 200 top 10 debuts. She has released three solo Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) concert specials. I don't think she is out of high school yet, but she is a quite remarkable young lady:

All I can say is I never heard of her, and I don't pay attention to the crap passing for talent that's being turned-out by the reality TV shows. I wish I could do the same for what came out of The Apprentice too, but that seems impossible!

But now that the kid's been thrust upon us by Trump, I will admit she's pretty good. Quite an Amazing voice, for such a young kid.

But I just don't follow the commercial crap turned-out by reality shows, and don't feel I'm missing anything.

Jackie Evancho has done more than just the classics. Here she is singing "Safe and Sound" from Hunger Games.

Personally, I like Jackie's version more than Taylor Swift's.

This thread starts out by the OP calling all liberals 'filthy', then other Cons chime in and seem to be all butt hurt the tone of the thread turned nasty?

What?

I hadn't heard of her either but she's well worth listening to.

I think she was 11 when this was recorded

Thank you, Luther. I'd forgotten about this performance, but I'd seen it. I wouldn't have connected the dots and realized that she's this amazing performer now grown up if you hadn't.

The OP of this thread is ugly. Ugh, "filthy liberals" and "getting her haul to the bank." If this has brought Jackie Evancho's talent to national attention, why can't we all just celebrate this?

Each to their own. If everybody liked the same things on TV or whatever, it would be a really limited world. We don't like much that is on TV these days but we enjoy some of the competition and talent shows that for the most part feature rather mundane talent. But every now and then somebody like Jackie Evancho or Susan Boyle or Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson or some absolutely incredible illusionist or group act comes along, all eventually making it big but who might have remained undiscovered without that exposure.

At any rate, Jackie will do the National Anthem at the inauguration and it will be great. And she will get hate mail, maybe even death threats, and be trashed on Facebook and Twitter because she does that. And that, in my opinion, is a national tragedy.
