Years ago, when I was with the Smith and Hightower Band, I laid down the bass line to Little Red Rooster by Butch Smith, as I was the bassist on the band's "Memories" CD. After the band broke up, and Butch and Lindell died, I was out of touch with what happened with the CD we recorded. I just found out that the song was later bought and recorded by Roy Head, and is one of the songs in his Lean and Hungry Album. Today, I also found out that I got credit for the bass line on the song, and it was laid down on that album exactly the way I originally recorded it.

Lean Hungry by Roy Head @ARTISTdirect

You can find me, Dana Elliott, in the credits for the Roy Head CD as a bassist. All these years, and I never knew. LOL. :)

NOTE: While we were doing the "Memories" CD, I gave a copy of the rough cut, which we did before the final take, to Vauge, who later became Schweddy here at DP. I hope he still has it. It might be worth...... Oh, a nickel or two. LOL.

Cool! And we can say we knew you when you didn't know you were known.

Not me. I know who Roy Head is.

Many years ago, when I played for the Southen Boogie Band, we used to cover Treat Her Right by Roy Head. Except we changed the lyrics a little......

If you follow my message
Just as hard as you can
You're gonna get a little callous
In the palm of your hand.

LOL.

Do you guys tend to remember years and years later what you did exactly? I was listening to a youtube of Ozzy listening to something something Randy Rhodes was riffing, which was awesome which is why someone was playing it for him, and Ozzy flat out said "I have never heard this (before)" and I was thinking so many years later and with a drugged up as Ozzy has so often been how would he know?

Is this a musician thing?

People do say I had a lot of fun in the 1960's, but I don't remember. LOL.

What sort of music is it?

What sort of music is it?

It's a countrified blues song Butch wrote. Honky Tonk Town, which is on the same album, was also written by Butch Smith, and that's also my bass line. That one is definitely country.

Although Smith and Hightower did a lot of country, we also did a lot of rock. Here is a song from our Memories CD:

I'm the one on the far right in the picture.
