The Walking Dead Season Premier 2016

:lamo With tomato sauce? ;)

True, but
Abraham being Abraham and him knowing he was doomed anyway,
I'm not sure that would have stopped him.

Yeah. That, a long corkscrew shaped pasta and meatballs.

He went out pretty damn heroically. The way he was defiantly staring at Negan said to me that he was begging to be the one to get the bat. And his defiance at the end "suck my nuts" was totally in character.

Fwiw, minor character or not he was a personal favorite of mine.

they took it too far, and their little memorial service or whatever after the show about made me blow lunch. they relied way too much on violence and not enough on plot.

I'd have been disappointed if you said it was alfredo. ;)

Yup, heroic and defiant - throughout the tenure on the show, not just at the end. One of my faves also.

Of course the violence was about Negan beating them, literally and figuratively, into submission. I took the ending as evidence he didn't succeed - all the more significant given the intensity of violence.

I think we have a new king of "Most evil bad guy on TV or film".

That was rough. I feel like it went too far, but maybe it will result in the payoff being even better down the road. I hope it doesn't get any darker than this episode, though. There is a fine line between powerful tv and depressing tv and they are right on that line.

Still annoyed how they can bash people's skulls into mush, but they can't say the naughty F word.

American TV is definitely bass ackward in that regard. And how is that less vulgar than a woman's nipple?

They really milked it wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much. They should have killed Abraham right away, and then surprised us with Glenn later. I wanted to ****ing fast forward to the end just to see who dies. Just infuriating writing.

There are some people saying we need a higher TV rating than TV-MA for episodes like that. I recommend "TV-SP". The "SP", of course, standing for "snuff porn".

I didn't really care about that. I already knew who was gonna die, but nonetheless it still hit me like a trainwreck.

AMC better not pull this cliffhanger nonsense again, though. Otherwise I'll lose my marbles.

The cliffhanger AND all the milking- the first half of the episode i was just pissed off about their overdramatic bull****.

They have crossed that line, I can't say I have enjoyed that episode at all.
I think the fact that the comic book had this scene as a very brutal one has created expectations through the fans from the show runners to make this scene as even more brutal than could be expected and they just went a bit too far.
I'd usually agree it is expected to make the revenge more sweet but since we probably won't get any conclusion until at least next season's finale I wonder if it's worth it.

Yeah... I called Abe last season (his story arc really had no where else to go, and he was actually already dead at this point in the comics - he took the arrow through the eye instead of the fat girl), but Glen was a genuine surprise. I wasn't expecting that.

Denise. Her name was Denise.

Not to mention, Tara's gonna have one hell of a homecoming.

I predict at least 2 seasons, probably three.

1 season for Negan to push Rick too far.
1 season to develop close enough ties to Hilltop and The Kingdom.
1 season for the revolt.

Even though I personally enjoyed the premiere (meaning it kept my eyes glued to the screen and stressed me the **** out), this probably isn't gonna be an episode that I go back and watch again. It's a bit too depressing.

And I do agree that this episode was insanely brutal, but that's what Negan's appearance was intended for. And AMC ramping up the brutality for the TV adaption just goes to show how much of a threat Negan is; he ain't playin' no games.

This is the most incredibly brutal episode I have yet seen. :notlook:

Worse than the Governor. Worse than Terminus.

I'm not sure I want to continue watching the series to be honest.

My only motivation would be to see how, and how long it takes for them, to take this guy out. :unsure13:

Thoughts, anyone?

I'm with you. It was an hour of pure punishment to the viewers. But the toughest scene of all was apparently pulled directly from the comic book:

After that season opener I decided to spoil it for myself and just read how it plays out in the comic book.

Also, the picnic scene just made it all the worse.

I actually feel like you do on this show. It was a WOW - I can't believe that just happened and was there anything worse they could possibly do to human beings. I didn't like it! My son reads the comics and said it was expected but I just felt that it took the most evil of all evil and put it out there for humanity. I guess in my book, it wasn't really necessary to show like they did. I don't think that it will keep me from watching again, I'm too invested in it. Plus it is a great break from the news and this election. However, I'll add that after this episode, I had to turn on CNN just to cheer up :)

Intriguing!

I know it is not in the script, but I wonder why they don't get everybody that is left and get as far away from that area as possible.

The country is a pretty big place.

Alexandria's way too good of a place to just give up to the Saviors. Not to mention Alexandria has a 50+ population. I don't know how that many of them could survive on the open road like that.

I found it hard to watch, I skipped quite a bit on fast forward. The last episode was like that too.
I hear the next one is also painful/depressing...yay, escapist TV at its best? (no)

I'm glad Walking Dead is, and its so much better than FTWD that its not funny...but its never fully found its way IMO. Its really good, high production value and all, but it just seems to fall short on the story and pacing for some reason. Reminds me of Lost a little. It seems they dwell on emotions so much that it really detracts from the story. Let the scene inform us, don't start with all the mood shots and the music, and then long drawn out stuff, then more music, and mood, and it spills over into the next week with mood on emotional reflection of the past episode, and the loss, and the mood, you get the idea.

Do we really need to told what to feel in a mature high quality series? Especially this far into the show?

When Carol was the hero of Terminus, she did it with no fanfare, they were not playing some patriotic anthem as the did it (like many movies) and while they touched on how she saved the day and they were appreciated, . They didn't put her on a pedestal, they didn't worship her, they didn't fawn over her about it, its life, she's bad ass, get on with it. <-- I wish the series was mostly awesome **** but that they "got on with it".

Same with Rick's crazy-looks/crazy-breakdowns. He's done it too much, they are not dramatic any longer.

If you know what I mean.
