The Walking Dead Season Premier 2016

Ruffians, yes. Not soldiers, or even experienced amateurs. They move in tight clusters with no apparent formation, no apparent plan or thought of how they'd react to sudden ambush. They act as if their superior numbers are all they need to cow all opposition.

Well it's worked for them so far, hasn't it? I mean, they've been able to subjugate numerous communities just based off the fact that they have so many members in their ranks.

They move in a gang-like format because they work best as a giant group.

When they DO run into serious opposition, as in the outpost, they don't do so well. Frighteners and thugs. Give me ten real soldiers and watch them die in piles like snowdrifts. Or even ten deer hunters with semiauto rifles who will follow orders and have a little sense and grit, and a few weeks to train them, and we'd slaughter them twenty for one.

They're as stupid as anyone in Alexandria, just meaner and more numerous.

Yep. They aren't soldiers. But they have contingencies and use radio frequency switches. They also give sitreps and they appear to be used to doing these procedures. The Saviors also have their designated positions and routines.

Negan is the linchpin. He's the big frightener than scares the ruffians into obedience. Looks like half of them secretly hate him. Kill him and his second-tier leaders would likely tear the "Saviors" apart fighting to be top dog.

They're not as formidable as they seem.

I'm pretty sure quite a lot of the Saviors don't mind Negan being in power. I know there are some dissenters, but they don't have much of a choice but to go along with it. The crazies are loyal to him.

And let's say they did kill Negan. While he wouldn't be as good of a leader, I think Simon could definitely replace him, and then Rick would still have a war on his hands. But obviously if you take Negan out of the equation, the Saviors will most likely suffer as a result. His efficient leadership is obviously a main factor in their effectiveness.

At this point, Rick needs to find a way to ally with the other communities. That way they can stand their ground in case Negan throws a full invasion force their way.

I think the directors have screwed themselves this season.

The have been 6 episodes with 5 different places.

How are they going to go back with so few episodes left and update each one so we can follow what is going on?

Removing Negan doesn't solve the problem. If you kill him, you would still have to worry about the rest of the Savior's hierarchy filling up that vaccum. Simon (Negan's right hand man) could easily take Negan's place as leader, and then Rick would still end up having an All-Out War on his hands. The same could probably be said for the rest of Negan's top lieutenants.

And considering that the Saviors have so many outposts that they constantly maintain, and so many men spread out, it would only make sense that they are well organized to some degree, as I doubt they could maintain both those outposts and their control over the communities if they didn't.

Well, I'm thinking the reason why these communities aren't communicating as much as they should is because only two (Alexandria and the Hilltop) have really ever formally met. The Kingdom and Oceanside had no idea that those other communities even existed.

But I'm pretty sure that they'll all unite soon enough.
I doubt they would unite that quickly unless Simon has been beating people to death in front of the group or ironing their faces. They are one good dead dictator away from anarchy IMO.

You do have a point there. Oh well, I just hope the pace picks up soon. The show's kinda moving a bit too slow for my liking.

I think I understand what they are trying to do. I think we are supposed to be going along for the ride.

I think we won't be resolved on Negan until next season.

I have watched 5 episodes of this new season. I really do not like watching anymore at this time, although I suspect that it will all turn around. It seems every season introduces an evermore terrible challenge to combat. I could wait until this is all over, then watch all of them sometime next year, if that proves the current nightmare comes to an end. For me the show is about people overcoming their difficulties, not cowering and giving up to a villain like Neegan. That would be the end of it as a show, I suspect, for many viewers. I suspect they will be rid of this new terror, since each episode I have so far watched introduces new camps that surround them, with somewhat independent bands, who nontheless are paying tribute or are in hiding from The Saviors, like the women hiding out on the island. Perhaps the end of this new year of shows will build up to a point where they unify, destroying The Saviors, and giving Rick his chance to fulfill his promise to Neegan that he will kill him. We will see.

I like a mini series that has a start and an end without all the overgloried violence.

One like that you can watch a few years later and enjoy it all over again.

I have the Sharpe's series, and Boardwalk Empire. Both I feel are first class.

I had to give up on WD after this season's opener. It seemed the writers were in competition to see who could splatter the most gore on the fourth wall.

You followers will be really pissed if everyone dies in the end.

Whenever that happens, I feel the whole time watching was a waste.

It has been a few episodes.

Do we still like this series?

Still love the series but hate the acting from the guy who plays Neegan. Also, some of the story is hard to take. Fat girl gets killed for no reason (other than she is dispensible to the storyline), guy undermining Rick gets killed on a whim, but the girl who shoots at Neegan and hits his beloved Lucille is allowed to live

Yeah, thats credible!

My girlfriend loves how he is playing that character. It helps her that she loves the actor for playing the Winchester father on Supernatural.

I think he is playing it so douchy that it is hard to watch.

How sad is it that the season is almost over and it has just dropped off the radar? Anyone still watching?

We used to make sure we were in front of the TV for this series.

We have now missed the last 3 episodes, and I can't say I am upset about it.

I am, although I usually binge-watch 2-3 episodes at a time "On Demand" - keeping the plot flowing that way seems to avoid some of the frustrations expressed in this thread. Things are looking up a bit now that Rick & Co are uniting and arming the other communities - doubt the war will really get rolling before next season though.

So what's the deal with Eugene? He's a survivor so he may really have joined Negan. OTOH, he's endangered himself in the past to help Alexandrians.

I think they should have 2 hour long episodes. I would rather have a shorter series with a more complete story than the snippets. With them bouncing around now to 4 and soon 5 different groups PLUS the saviors...its just too disjointed for a lot of people. Story lines are getting lost.

I think Eugene is for Eugene. He's Negan because Negan makes him feel important. Push comes to shove...hes all about himself. As long as the Saviors are on top, he is Negan.

Have we seen Negan kill any women at all so far? And Karl too...makes you wonder. Might be his big blind spot.

He definitely looks out for number 1 (who doesn't? ;)) and he can be pretty wishy-washy. But I dunno, I think there's more to him than that - like I said, he's come through more than once when the chips were down. Just a hunch but I think he'll play a big part in the coming war, and probably not on Negan's side.

Don't recall Negan killing women - seems he'd rather add them to his harem. Carl wasted his mother when she got bit but don't think he's killed any other women.

I reckon it's possible that Eugene has this all figured out and is looking for the right time to take out Negan himself. Maybe he is driven by his guilt about Abraham. When you think about it...his contributions have been pretty lame. Pour metal on the heads of walkers. Huzzah! I'd like that to be the case...maybe some redemption.

I didn't mean Karl killing women but that Negan didn't kill Karl. Maybe his weakness is women and kids.

Ah, OK. I doubt Negan would have any compunction about killing women and kids, but he has better uses for them. His use for women is obvious. As for Carl, Negan uses implicit and/or explicit threats against him to control Rick, whom he uses to control Alexandria. But Negan is smart enough to know that, if he actually harmed Carl, nothing could control Rick's vengeance.
