Cover versions that are better than the original

Cover version of Am I evil by Metallica is better than the first version (which is also good IMHO, but not as good).

Hands down the Talking Heads version is better, but that is mostly because I think the Talking Heads at that time were awesome

A little bluegrass version of a Woody Guthrie song

Elvis rules this song

Good

Great

Awesome but the uncensored version is a lot "nicer" (nudge nudge wink wink)

Probably "All Along the Watchtower" based on the stuff TD wrote.

"All Along the Watchtower" gets my nomination for best cover ever, but I see it was Hey Joe that he posted.

The Byrds also did some good Dylan covers back in those days. I was a little kid with a radio...

Oh I like these threads, I'll play, as I have two that immediately come to mind, the first is Indio singing Big Hard Sun, and then followed by Eddie Vedder's version (A lot of people think Eddie was the original)

And now Eddie Vedder.. You decide

Now for something special I love this cover of Simon and Garfunkel's epic Sound of Silence, by Noeula

Enjoy.

Tim-

great cover of one of my favorites from the late great Warren Zevon

The Tim Hardin version is beautiful but I love Steve Marriott's version

I'm not too fond of most of their songs, but Disturbed did a cover of the Sound of Silence that I really like. I consider it one of their best works.

That is stunning. Absolutely stunning. Hearing him sing a song where you can really hear his voice makes me think of how much he sounds like the lead singer of Joy Division.

I actually prefer Aaron Lewis's acoustic version of "Black" over Eddie Vedder's acoustic version. Then again maybe Im biased, Aaron Lewis is the main reason i have and play acoustic/electric guitar but I do enjoy his version better.

Pretty good cover. That's probably my favorite Pearl Jam song.

I wouldn't say she is better than Otis, but she certainly gives him a run for his money.

Eva Cassidy, taken too soon. Her version is so much better than Sting's.

Tim Hardin's original was a thing of haunting beauty and several big name artists have covered it from the Cash ladies and Bobby Darin to Robert Plant, but Steve Marriott's awesome cover is my favorite

sadly we lost both men way too early, Tim to addiction, Steve to a house fire

here is the original BTW

Don't know if it's "better", but just heard this one today and was rather amazed. I'm always a fan of covers that go into a very different genre

And since this thread was dead before the Bad Wolves Zombie cover, I'll go ahead and add it here too. I totally didn't realize she was actually supposed to add her voice to the hook. Wow:
