Grace Vanderwaal Crowned Champion of America's Got Talent : People.com

Kid was/is remarkable, but I do have a few questions:

Should children be in these types of shows?
Does winning that show almost doom her for life?

Pressure. Expectations. Money. Fame.

At 12 years old?
Has there ever been any child star who's not suffered some extraordinary issues over the course of their lives?

Should there be minimum age limits for such TV show competitions?

I mean really, can this child actually put on a true Vegas show?

I'm not wishing her anything bad, but I fear that such a success as this can truly be detrimental in the long run.

What are your thoughts?

She'd be far from the first child star. Remember Shirley Temple? The $1M, btw, is paid out over 40 years - that's about $25K per year.

And I watch AGT, and the gir in question - Grace Vanderwaal - is a natural artist. It wasn't just that she was singing very well while playing her ukelele...but she wrote all her own songs! That's the kind of talent that cannot be denied and should not be hindered, least of all by the artist herself.

"Paid over forty years"

Well then, inflation is going to eat the **** out of that lol. But hey, free money is free money.

How is that any different than children performing in the Olympics? The difference is the Olympics are even more stressful for a child.

It's only 3 performances not a full run Vegas show.

she was cute, and good, and original...and the other singer Brian was amazing as well

but the 1st place should have gone to the Clairvoyants

they were AMAZING all season....and John the guy from Philly was a great magician too

the top 4 were all really good....but the two magician acts were the best imo

and the ones i would pay to see in a Vegas show.....

I agree with you on the clairvoyants.

I think John would have a great job as a motivational speaker for corp. events. He would actually keep everyone interested while getting his message across.

Welp...didn't know that either. :thinking

Sounds like AGT really misrepresents what the winner gets. Not shocking, but a little surprising.

Nick Cannon talked about it last night on the show. He said the show would be at Planet Hollywood on Oct 27-29.

I just read that the clairvoyants and tape face will be joining her for all three shows.

Back to my original questions.

Do you think it's dangerous for a 12 year old to win such a show?

I agree, I really like the Clairvoyants. I am happy for this girls but I was going for the magicians.

On another note, I have to give Nick props on his choice of head gear. He rocked it like few can.

Back to my original questions.

I think it depends on a variety of factors, mainly parents. Do they really care about her well being or will they get greedy and not care? Seems like the ones with the greedy pushy parents most always are the ones that go nuts.

It’s not automatically a recipe for disaster. There are plenty of child stars who never had any major issues (they’re all the ones we’ve forgotten about because the media are only interested in extremes). A lot of it will be down to the adult supervision and support they have but also how the media and fans respond to them. It’s not as if adults suddenly thrust in to this level of fame and (relative) fortune don’t often have problems too and if anything the children are more likely to be protected from the worst of it.

No. She is only doing 3 shows not going on a world tour. IF anything it MAY give her an advantage in the industry, but most of the winners of these shows don't really go anywhere with their careers. I think that by next year no one will remember who she is.

Think about it, past winners, where are they now? None of them are household names. Most of them have probably gone back to their day jobs or are on the club circuit if that.
Unless she gets signed by Disney she will probably fade away like the others before her.

i would agree with most of the past winners

but not this year.....two of the top 4 acts easily have a career in show business in my book

Brian Crum....who has an amazing voice, look, and story....and i will be really surprised if he doesnt have a major label sign him like NOW

and the Clairvoyants....they have the look, the act, and the presence of the old wonderful magic extravaganza's

both of their agents are getting calls....i would bet on it

as far as the winner....she has this really wonderful quirkyness to her....she could be a star in a few years, or just disappear back into oblivion

the other magic act John...the long snapper of the Eagles....he will be fine....he is a class act, and whether he does his magic, or speaking engagements, he will have a place out there

and then you have the 14 yr old opera singer....she will sing for the met one day....absolutely incredible voice.....

watched the show for a few years....most of them, it is one or two acts that shine

this year, there was a LOT of talent on the stage....

40 years from now and you'll be able to buy just a pack of gum for $25K.

In answer to the bold, yes. I know quite a few of them.
