From USA Today:

Patty Duke, the teen who won an Oscar for The Miracle Worker and later played "identical cousins" in her own TV sitcom, has died. She was 69.

"Anna 'Patty Duke' Pearce passed away this morning March 29, 2016 at 1:20 am," his statement read. "Her cause of death was sepsis from a ruptured intestine. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a friend, a mental health advocate and a cultural icon. She will be missed." Oscar-winning former child star Patty Duke dies, age 69

Patty Duke was amazingly talented and had a tough life. She was very brave about her mental issues, and I hope she is at peace.

Damn, I would have guessed she was much older than 69. I would have guessed she was at least as old as say Mick Jagger or Jane Fonda. 69, way too young

I'm guessing that many haven't seen The Miracle Worker, for which Patty Duke deservedly won an Oscar, so:

From Wiki:

Helen Adams Keller (June 27, 1880 – June 1, 1968) was an American author, political activist, and lecturer. She was the first deafblind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree. The story of how Keller's teacher, Anne Sullivan, broke through the isolation imposed by a near complete lack of language, allowing the girl to blossom as she learned to communicate, has become widely known through the dramatic depictions of the play and film The Miracle Worker. Her birthplace in West Tuscumbia, Alabama, is now a museum and sponsors an annual "Helen Keller Day". Her birthday on June 27 is commemorated as Helen Keller Day in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania and was authorized at the federal level by presidential proclamation by President Jimmy Carter in 1980, the 100th anniversary of her birth. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_Keller

A staple of my youth. I loved her in everything she did. She also had some great talented kids. A good woman. May she rest well.

"I've come to believe that whoever I am didn't start on December 14, 1946, and isn't going to end on whatever that mysterious date is in the future."
RIP Patty Duke <3

She was outstanding in that movie. I get chills watching her (and Tate too, for a different reason).

You know I can sing the whole theme song to "The Patty Duke Show"? I'm such a nerd. They laugh alike, they walk alike, at times they even talk alike.....

"But Patty likes to rock 'n roll, a hotdog makes her lose control--what a crazy pair!"

*This is a song I have used to torture a friend who sent me the theme song to "Flipper" to torture me.

"Meet Cathy who's been most everywhere, from Zanzibar to Barkley Square, but Patty's only seen the sights from ..........."

Growing up in the 60s, I loved the Patty Duke Show. And she was brilliant as both leads in her two versions of the Helen Keller Story.

RIP for a life well lived but cut short far too soon.

But Patty's only seen the sights a girl can see from Booklyn Heights!

Amazingly, William Schallert, who played Patty's dad, is still very much alive. Take a look at his creds: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Schallert
