AC/DC Singer Brian Johnson Says He’s Been Replaced

If this is true as told, then I think it's crappy how they (the band) went about it.

" You have to remember I’m a comedian & a storyteller. I definitely exaggerate and sometimes I get a little carried away!! And this was one of those times!"

Yeah, I saw that, but I sensed he was backtracking to cover his own butt. I mean, I'm sure there is some embellishment, but I fear the general gist is still true.

Yeah, well - that's showbiz. I've never liked Johnson's voice, it actually changed the sound of the band. I hope they get a replacement that reflects the original sound.

I have read in several places they allowed that to happen on purpose. When auditions were being held for Scott's replacement they had half a dozen candidates who sounded like Scott. They chose to go in a different direction.

I don't think it was a wrong decision. They still sounded good and Johnson has a strong stage presence.

Yeah, I haven't liked the band since. Johnson's more a screamer than a vocalist. The original sound was harder and had that earthy garage sound that makes good hard rock.

Van Halen does that all the time.

Van Halen does that all the time.

And so does Yes, who sometimes even hire multiple guys for the same job opening then have to figure out whose going out on the road.

It wouldn't surprise me if Johnson has been replaced. He is IIRC the oldest member of the band and 7 years older than Angus. I can see where Angus wants to keep going maybe another 5-10 years and an aging Johnson with bad hearing isn't going to get him there.

Remember, AC/DC is at this stage in their careers a giant cash machine and they need to keep filling it.

While I like Johnson, I'm not so much bothered by the band replacing him. I'm just think it was crass the way they're doing it. If the guy's been around for 36 years you obviously liked him well enough, he deserves better than what he's getting.

Alice in Chains did pretty much the same thing.

Van Halen does that all the time.

There's a great (relatively) new book called "Van Halen Rising" and it's about Van Halen's early years up until the making of Van Halen 1. According to the book, Roth barely made the band. He really had to work hard at practicing vocals, but he actually ended up sounding awesome with VH imo...probably my favorite rock singer. He still sounds good in the studio, but horrible live.
