Beyond seminal, when we consider its influence on jazz and other genres. Some of the best musicians of the latter half of the mid 20th century who went on in other genres, with this experience under the belt, to influence others. The term used was fusion, but that was inadequate to describe how this album influenced cross genre work by so many. And that influence still carries on, even with musicians who never listened to this album, passed on by intermediary musicians who have listened to it.

Composer, perform, and producer said more than once that Bitches Brew, Mingus' composition Epitaph (performed and recorded after his death), along with Brian Eno's early production work with Roxy Music changed the world of music for the better and were his major influences.

I've worn out three copies of Bitches Brew on vinyl. Two on CD. Now I have it on both CD and a music only DVD, which affords the ability to hear the musician's breathing patterns, McLaughlin's fingers sliding on the fret board of his guitar with pinpoint accuracy.
