What Was The Last Movie You Watched and Rate it!

A Walt Disney musical oldie:

The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band

Hahaha, Democrats vs Republicans!
Democrats complain when the electoral college named the Republican candidate President! Sounds familiar? Hahahaha
I found it enjoyable - but that's me. I've been into musicals lately.

Just recently saw The Happiest Millionaire with Fred McMurray and Tommy Steele (also with the same love team) Love that movie!

1917 (2019) - IMDb Two young soldiers in the British Army during WW1 must go behind enemy lines to find another unit to prevent it from executing a suicidal attack. The plot seems very familiar if you watched that old Mel Gibson movie called Gallipoli. It's supposed to be one long shot, though I did find there were some cuts during the night stretches.

A lot of the night scenes were barely watchable since the viewer could hardly tell what was going on.

The action and production values are good, but the plot is somewhat predictable. Better than average, though I wouldnt call it a masterpiece. All in all, is it worth seeing? Yes. 7/10

Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. 8/10. Great fun movie with an outstanding preformance by Margot Robbie. Loved it.

Sent from my Honor 8X

Saw Joker.

Great character study and exploration of how society often creates its own villains, along with ultra timely themes of grinding poverty, class tension and resentment and mental illness. Peppered with metaphor and implications, it feels like an art film that was adapted to the premise of a superhero origin story; all I can say is I hope that I see more superhero entries that take note of and successfully manage to duplicate its gritty and grounded take in the future. Some superb nods to Nolan/Ledger's Joker, Taxi Driver and Kings of Comedy (which all apparently provided inspiration). Totally refreshing after enduring the seemingly endless wasteland of predictable and formulaic Marvel (and Marvel style) flashy superhero trash. Joker is proof positive that you don't need an absurd budget and litanies of special effects to produce an excellent film so long as you have the writing, acting and directing chops on board. Todd Philips and Joaquin Phoenix skillfully make you feel for and empathize with a villain who still obviously remains a villain.

On that note, Joaquin's acting is truly exceptionally and he undoubtedly deserved his Oscar hands down. I find that the plot is a bit thin, and some of the background elements feel a bit out of nowhere (though to be fair, their causality is hinted at), but I'm not sure how much that can be really said to count against it given that it is all from the vantage of one unreliable narrator, so we don't see the broader world, and as a slice of life we can't realistically expect anything too fantastical in terms of plot elements. I'd ballpark it at a 9/10; great film, even if and precisely because it makes you uncomfortable.

Great trailer, but it has spoilers so be warned:

I saw US. If the lowest possible rating were 1, I'd give it a negative three.

Extra points taken away for its absolutely incoherent take on the subject of "privilege"-- though I suppose there's some demented originality in the fact that Peele even attacks black people who obtain anything like a good life.

Poor characterization, too, all used to set up the political bushwah.

The Changeling (1980) with George C. Scott

A great movie with a great actor. 5/5

Little note: The guy who plays a cop also played the Klingon commander in Star Trek TOS "Errand of Mercy"

The ‘last movie you saw’ was from 40 yrs ago?

On a tangent; those of you that frequent theaters, how do the other patrons behave? Are the cell phone warnings followed? I avoid theaters lately, as I have had less than ideal experiences with my fellow movie-goers. If the experience is ruined, it’s difficult to square.

The last movie I saw was JoJo Rabbit.

I am still fighting to decide what I thought of it.

The movie before that was Little Women, 5/5

Hotel Mumbai

I highly recommend it.

Maiden I met Tracy Edwards when both of us were young sailors in the West Indies. Had drinks with her in London a couple years past and talked about her projects - the movie and restoration of the boat. 5 Stars

Chatted with some of the people who had watched the movie, thinking they were recreational sailors, but of the five I spoke with -- none were sailors but all were impressed with the story of the young girl who pulled together a team and raced around the world.

I saw "Parasite" last night. I enjoyed it very much. It was a well told story. The acting was superb. The cinematography was very good. The subtitles were not a bother and in fact were well done, in this respect:

Parasite (2019) - Trivia - IMDb

I've seen many films with subtitles and with many of those, the English translation can be stilted and impairs the flow of the story. At times I was barely aware I was reading and watching.

I highly recommend it. 10/10.

I saw "Knives Out" over the weekend. I enjoyed that one too. Funny, entertaining and well acted. I defo recommend it! 10/10.

What did you think of Daniel Craig's performance and character in Knives Out? I have nothing against that actor, but I thought he/the character was horrendous and brought the entire movie down.

CRAWL

I never heard of this movie until I saw it on Amazon.

This is quite enjoyable if you're into the alligator/survival genre.

I love that real creepy movie! Seen it several times!
That ball bouncing down the stairs.....still gives me goosebumps.

I saw the magic done by Clint Eastwood on display last night using Amazon, for the first time called Letters from Iwo Jima. Clinton got awards for top picture. Truly if you think you saw the best ww2 movie. try this. I still rate Band of Brothers the highest but Eastwood is in that same class.

LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA.

I have stopped going to theatres for ages. The drive to the nearest theatre (30 mins), isn't worth it for me.
And yes, you're right - anything can spoil it for you. At one time, I was in a matinee showing with lots of teens.....
you can just imagine that experience.

Also, I like the comfort of home, that I can pause the movie anytime. I can't make it through the entire movie without having to go
to the washroom - coke and popcorn, can do that. And without coke and popcorn - it ain't a movie! :)
Hubby and I like to watch replays too, so we tend to buy dvd instead. Buying the movie is not as expensive as going to a theatre.

I have been to the Everglades and watched how easy it is for men to wrestle alligators. Once you saw the beast, you lose fear. That is why Florida residents think nothing of alligators walking around the place.

Just saw Joker. Oscar was well-deserved but I'd never watch it again. So depressing (not surprising, I know) and doesnt live up to the anticipation that it builds. Ending is kind of predictable.

OTOH, it's a very honest depiction of certain social issues in our time, most esp. mental health and social services.

But well done. I'd stream it at home, like I did, rather than going to the theater.

Argo 8/10 . . . It's difficult watching Hollywood retell an actual event, because it's always fictionalized in some ways. Good movie, though.

Old movie, The Russia House (Sean Connery and Michelle Pfeiffer). It's a love story.

I hadn't seen GREEN BOOK when it won Best Picture Oscar in 2018, but I was glad to see it beat out BLACKKKLANSMAN, Spike Lee's paean to eternal race-hatred. Today I finished watching BOOK, and found that it's just a decent comedy-drama. I mean, it's a better film overall than KLANSMAN, in that the characters have reasonably believable-- even if sometimes the relationship of Ali and Mortensen seems more like Felix and that other Oscar.

But neither one feels like it deserves a Best Picture Oscar, nor did I like any of the other nominees for Best Pic. Guess I'll have to look back over the releases for the year and make my own pick.

The Godfather Trilogy.

THE PLATFORM (El Hoyo)

A multi-tiered prison where a food platform descends to each tier with meal remains left from the tenants from higher levels. Two inmates on each tier.

The plot is that there's no food left on the platform by the time it gets to Tier 170. Inmates in the lower levels must resort to other (more barbaric) ways of getting their food!! It's pretty gory. :afraid:

Acting, Directing, Screenplay - - - all top-notch. A must-see for horror/thriller fans. (Netflix)

8.5 out of 10

'71 (2014) - IMDb British movie about a soldier who gets separated from his unit in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and has to survive on his own. I thought this was gonna be a continuous action rollercoaster sort of like 1917, but it gets bogged down a bit. In the end it was just so-so. 5/10

Color Out of Space (2019) - IMDb Based on the classic horror story by HP Lovecraft. Nicolas Cage and his family living in the woods encounters something in a meteorite and things get... weird. Instead of the usual gore fest (there is plenty of that too btw), much of the horrror and suspense is more psychedelic, with groovy colors and stuff-heck its even got Tommy Chong- the Tim Leary of Hollywood in it. Cage hams it up as usual, and in the end its more meh than anything, but everybody tries real hard. 5.5/10
