Just Mercy. My Rating: 10 out of 10, especially when viewed on MLK Day!

    Just Mercy/Film synopsis
After graduating from Harvard, Bryan Stevenson heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or those not afforded proper representation. One of his first cases is that of Walter McMillian, who is sentenced to die in 1987 for the murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite evidence proving his innocence. In the years that follow, Stevenson encounters racism and legal and political maneuverings as he tirelessly fights for McMillian's life.

Just finished watching the last of the Paranormal Activity saga.

    1-3, 5 and 6 I give a 5/5
4? Give it a 2/5. It was dull. Did a lot of fast-forwarding with that one.

I haven't watched these in a while because...well **** it, I might was well be a man and admit it: They creep me out.

After watching them, I get a small creepy feeling for a while. And that takes a lot of doing when it comes to horror movies. I can watch some of the scariest stuff made and not have it effect me, but the PA series? In my opinion, it's gotta be a winner to do that.

I saw "Parasite" last night. I enjoyed it very much. It was a well told story. The acting was superb. The cinematography was very good. The subtitles were not a bother and in fact were well done, in this respect:

Joon-ho Bong has worked closely with American translator Darcy Paquet, a Korean resident and "cinephile" blogger of Korean movies, on almost all of his films, and gives him tremendous credit for their collaboration, especially for the astute way he enhances the American English quality of script and subtitles.
    Parasite (2019) - Trivia - IMDb

I've seen many films with subtitles and with many of those, the English translation can be stilted and impairs the flow of the story. At times I was barely aware I was reading and watching.

    I highly recommend it. 10/10.

I saw "Knives Out" over the weekend. I enjoyed that one too. Funny, entertaining and well acted. I defo recommend it! 10/10.

Dark Waters- legal drama with Mark Ruffalo as a lawyer who uncovers a huge poisoning scandal by Du Pont. Its very similar to that Julia Roberts movie Erin Brockovich. The themes are good and the acting is fine, but the whole film just drags and I was bored by the end. 6/10.

    A Walt Disney musical oldie:

The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band

    Hahaha, Democrats vs Republicans!
Democrats complain when the electoral college named the Republican candidate President! Sounds familiar? Hahahaha
I found it enjoyable - but that's me. I've been into musicals lately.

Just recently saw The Happiest Millionaire with Fred McMurray and Tommy Steele (also with the same love team) Love that movie!

1917 (2019) - IMDb Two young soldiers in the British Army during WW1 must go behind enemy lines to find another unit to prevent it from executing a suicidal attack. The plot seems very familiar if you watched that old Mel Gibson movie called Gallipoli. It's supposed to be one long shot, though I did find there were some cuts during the night stretches.

A lot of the night scenes were barely watchable since the viewer could hardly tell what was going on.

The action and production values are good, but the plot is somewhat predictable. Better than average, though I wouldnt call it a masterpiece. All in all, is it worth seeing? Yes. 7/10

    Saw Joker.

Great character study and exploration of how society often creates its own villains, along with ultra timely themes of grinding poverty, class tension and resentment and mental illness. Peppered with metaphor and implications, it feels like an art film that was adapted to the premise of a superhero origin story; all I can say is I hope that I see more superhero entries that take note of and successfully manage to duplicate its gritty and grounded take in the future. Some superb nods to Nolan/Ledger's Joker, Taxi Driver and Kings of Comedy (which all apparently provided inspiration). Totally refreshing after enduring the seemingly endless wasteland of predictable and formulaic Marvel (and Marvel style) flashy superhero trash. Joker is proof positive that you don't need an absurd budget and litanies of special effects to produce an excellent film so long as you have the writing, acting and directing chops on board. Todd Philips and Joaquin Phoenix skillfully make you feel for and empathize with a villain who still obviously remains a villain.

On that note, Joaquin's acting is truly exceptionally and he undoubtedly deserved his Oscar hands down. I find that the plot is a bit thin, and some of the background elements feel a bit out of nowhere (though to be fair, their causality is hinted at), but I'm not sure how much that can be really said to count against it given that it is all from the vantage of one unreliable narrator, so we don't see the broader world, and as a slice of life we can't realistically expect anything too fantastical in terms of plot elements. I'd ballpark it at a 9/10; great film, even if and precisely because it makes you uncomfortable.

Great trailer, but it has spoilers so be warned:

I saw US. If the lowest possible rating were 1, I'd give it a negative three.

Extra points taken away for its absolutely incoherent take on the subject of "privilege"-- though I suppose there's some demented originality in the fact that Peele even attacks black people who obtain anything like a good life.

Poor characterization, too, all used to set up the political bushwah.
