Something you probably wouldn't hear if you were only listening to the media telling us how everyone hates the war which is going so badly: The casualty rate is dropping like crazy.

US Casualties in the Iraq War:

Barring any catastrophe in the last 6 days in March, this will be the 5th month in a row since October in which casualties decreased. In addition, this will have been the month with the fewest casualties since February 2004. This comes in the midst of continually shifting power to the Iraqi national forces.

Seems like we're doing a pretty decent job of shifting the burden more and more to the Iraqi forces.

I have a great plan for shifting the burden to the Iraqi forces even faster: Get the hell out.

A lower rate of American deaths in Iraq is an improvement, but no American deaths there would have been better news.

I've got an even better one. Eliminate the military altogether.

My idea is about as smart as yours.

edit: I'm not saying we should never leave, but that we shouldn't bail immediately.

You're right. Bringing freedom to millions of people living under tyranny is pretty good news too though.

Why not? What do you possibly imagine our military will accomplish by staying another year? And why on earth do you have faith that the leadership won't continue to **** up, as they've ****ed up time after time for the past three years?

Continue training the Iraqi police/military, continue tracking down foreign elements of various terrorist organizations, and continue stabilizing the situation by protecting the reconstruction efforts.

And why on earth do you have faith that the leadership won't continue to **** up, as they've ****ed up time after time for the past three years?

Maybe because I don't automatically despise anything done by Bush?

I hate the fact that we invaded Iraq, and I hate George Bush for starting a pointless war, but we can't just abort it immediately. What do you think the world is going to say if we do so? What i propose is slowly leaking troops out of Iraq and hacking down the money going into the country. Have a troop force of maybe 5k, and have them stay as an advisory force, kind of like what we did in laos in the 60's.

This is coming from a moderate, so don't pin me to one side or the other, i just think this is logical.

Well a revolution within Alqaeda and their surrender and assination of OBL along with the Palistinians announcing no more violence and arresting those who send out suicide bombers and the North Koreans overthrowing Kim and becoming democratic and handing over the nukes would have been better news too.

But can't we take it as it comes and admit it is GOOD news and the kind of news we want and that it shows the progress being made in the strategy we are engaged in?

We finished the war with Germany 60 years ago and we still have 60,000 troops there. We finished up with Korea 50 years ago and we still have 30,000 troops there.

I wouldn't be surprised to see something similar in Iraq. I think that if the situation calms down, which it looks like it is, people won't be as opposed to it.

That is great news my friend........Puzzling why we have not heard anything from the so called fair and balanced media on this.....

As long as we dont destroy babylon and places of great historical and cultural significance, I have no problem with the US staying there as advisory council.

Well, considering that the only purpose of the US military is to foster imperialism, slaughter innocent women and children, and torture innocent imprisoned civilians, I can't say they're wrong.

We lost the stomach for the war in Viet Nam thanks to our left wing friends here in the U.S and cut and run and 58,000 Americans (6 good friends of mine) and millions of Cambodians and Vietnamese died for nothing........

We must never make that mistake again......Say what you want about President Bush but I don't think he will let it happen as long as he is prez.....

We would have never won Vietnam. China would have done the same thing that they did to us in Korea.

Are you aware of how Vietnam was fought? The "soldiers" weren't given a sportsman chance in hell thanks to our politicians debating whether or not to be involved in the war for almost a decade.

I said it is an improvement. But still, more soldiers died this quarter than the first quarter of 2004.

I wonder how all of those Chinese protests against the war did...

That is the truth. If soldiers take a hill, they keep it, unless they are told to retreat, then take it again. The political goals had nothing to do with winning.
