Clockwise or counter-clockwise? I'm rather curious about this. I'll explain why after about a dozen responses (if there are even enough people still around by then for me to explain it to).

depending on how you look at it, its both. Try tilting the screen back and squinting to make it switch.

Counter-clockwise. I'm basing this on her shadow; specifically her foot's shadow.

dp.....................

I've looked at this multiple times and no matter how, where or when I look at it it's always clockwise - funny thing though, I'm right handed.

I made that bitch do jumping jacks!

keeps changing.

I'd rather see her from the bottom so I say counter-clockwise.

edit: and that doesn't make sense so don't try to figure it out

I voted clockwise, but after voting, it looks like counter-clockwise, so I change my vote. Interesting find.

Yes, this is me "flip-flopping". Finally, there is proof!!

I saw clockwise at first, and then I looked away and looked back and saw counter-clockwise.

That's really neat!

At first I thought this was an optical illusion...but now I think that she is, in fact, changing directions in the animation.

At first, she's pivoting on her left leg, and her right leg goes to the right when she's facing away from us. That would indicate clockwise.

A little bit later on, she's pivoting on her right leg, and her left leg goes to the left when she's facing away from us. That would indicate counterclockwise.

I don't see any way that that could be an optical illusion. There is clearly a "front" and "back" to the woman, and she clearly has a right leg and a left leg. So I think that it's just tricky animation that actually switches from one direction to the other, when her "spin" leg overlaps with her "pivot" leg.

Both..............

it switches so I picked both.

I don't agree that the animation switches.

While there is a front and back to the woman, it is all one solid color, and thus it truly cannot be ascertained which direction she is actually moving.

However, there's probably something going on here like "If you view her spinning direction A, it means this. If you view her spinning direction B, it means this."

That's what I suspect Adrian will post for us later.

I don't get anything but clockwise. Doesn't matter if I squint, move the computer screen, or look away and look back.

Sure it can. The side with her boobs is the "front," and the side with her ponytail is the "back." At any given time, you can tell what direction she is facing using these as references. And if you can tell what direction she is facing at any given time, it logically follows that you can tell what direction she was facing one second ago, and therefore determine what direction she's moving.

At least, I think that's right. If I watch the animation for several minutes, it seems to spontaneously change directions...even when I'm not actively trying to "see" it a different way.

oops never mind I got her to switch. Crazy. Didn't happen till I gave up and start doing something else at my desk. Looked up and she was going the other way. Bizarre.

When she switches in your brain she does switch which leg she is pivoting on. I don't know how it works but it's not the animation changing because you can "make" it happen.

At first, clockwise. I watched and watched closely to be sure, and it was definitely clockwise. Then I looked down and read someone's post, looked back up at her and she was going counter-clockwise. This confused me. I watched and watched and she was going counter-clockwise. I figured the animation MUST have switched.

Now every time I look at her though she's going clockwise. I can't seem to see the counter-clockwise movement again. But I did for a bit!

So, my answer was "Both".

EDIT: Arrrgggg!!! I went back and looked again and she was going counter-clockwise. Then right in front of my eyes, it switched to clockwise. I'm so confused.

I agree with Kandahar. It seems to switch, right around when she reaches not quite frontal position.

So both for me.

Bold mine. When you gave up, you switched which hemisphere of the brain you were working with.

-----------------------

If you see this lady turning in clockwise you are using your right brain. If you see it the other way, you are using left brain. Some people do see both ways, but most people see it only one way.

See if you can make her go one way and then the other by shifting the brain's current.
BOTH DIRECTIONS CAN BE SEEN

Experimentation has shown that the two different sides, or hemispheres, of the brain are responsible for different manners of thinking. The following table illustrates the differences between left-brain and right-brain thinking:

Left Brain------------------Right Brain

Logical ------------------- Random
Sequential------------------Intuitive
Rational---------------------Holistic
Analytical-------------------Synthesizing
Obejctive--------------------Subjective
Looks at--------------------Looks at
parts----------------------wholes

Most individuals have a distinct preference for one of these styles of thinking. Some, however, are more whole-brained and equally adept at both modes. In general, schools tend to favor left-brain modes of thinking, while downplaying the right-brain ones. Left-brain scholastic subjects focus on logical thinking, analysis, and accuracy. Right-brained subjects, on the other hand, focus on aesthetics, feeling, and creativity

------------------------

If this test is indeed reflective of which side of the brain one is predominately disposed to, I wanted to see if one's political leanings were related to which hemisphere of the brain one uses. The results (thus far) have been nothing at all what I expected.
