Skyrim

Morrowind was the last Elder Scrolls game before they started dumbing down the series. That is not to say that oblivion or SKyrim are not good games(they are), but Morrowing is one of the top 3 RPGS ever.

You excited for Elder Scrolls VI, Redress?

Everquest(proved MMOs could be financially successful and led to the current world with millions of MMO players and dozens of MMOs)
AD&D Gold Box games(kinda defined the computer RPG)

Honorable mention of Wizardry and Ultima series games.
I would have thought World of Warcraft would have taken the mantle of top MMOs. I remember paying 14.99 a month playing it. With millions playing it at that rate one could see why a feature film was done based on it. It bombed and deservedly so.

It wasn't a bomb financially (more of a dissapointment), but critically, yes it was. Honestly, I feel like a TV Series would be more suited to explore that format.

Popular and best are not necessarily the same thing.

I really had not even heard about it. I will have to read on it.

It was revealed back in 2018, but it's in very early stages of development, apparently. Bethesda wants to push out their new IP Starfield, before they release it, so I'm betting that it'll be quite a while before it's released.

Lately I can’t seem to strike a proper balance on difficulty, particularly for character builds other than the infamous overpowered stealth archer. Default pure Mage is weak and boring, but mods that add to Spellcasting tend to make it overpowered. So I crank the difficulty to maximum but then monsters are so deadly it forces you to powergame which then trivializes everything...

That’s an interesting idea. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone wasn’t already working on it. It could easily compete with shows like The Magicians (or similar shows).

Literally nothing to read. They released a video that was... well, just a title screen. Zero details.

I don't knpw ir anyone's working on it, but it would be a good idea. With the popularity of Game of Thrones (before it went to total crap), and the new Witcher series, fantasy is clearly a genre that is immensely popular with people. I'm not too well-versed on WoW lore, but I've seen a little bit, and I think you could totally make an interesting TV series out of it.

Did you like the Witcher series? I thought it was pretty good. The trouble with series is it seems the writers run out of gas and the show just gets silly. Like Magicians. I thought the concept was good at first but then it dived. Walking Dead comes to mind in that regards. I hear it’s come back but I refuse to get sucked in again.

I think it's good, but it's certainly got it's flaws. It's actually gotten me interested in playing the Witcher 3, so there's that. I will always have love for The Walking Dead. It had a pretty bad couple of seasons, but 9 and 10 have been pretty good, and I've been able to invest myself back into the show. Unfortunately, the companion show, Fear The Walking Dead, has absolutely been run into the ground.

I agree. I may pick it up again once I get utterly bored with Skyrim. The storyline is a little confusing at times.

Morrowind was one of the most immersive gaming experiences I’ve ever had. The cultural differences between factions was clear and well conceived plus, best of all, you could fly!

Check out the link I shared with DiAnna. There are hundreds of mods that you can download. All platforms. I play on Xbox.

Well thats new. Ill have to check it out.

Its the curse of video game movies most notably starting with the super mario bros movie and cemented by Uwe Boll.

DiAnna, first thing I should ask is if you have a Bethesda account. When I mentioned “mods” I was referring to the cheating mods. One of them is called the “Cheating room”. There you’ll discover a slew of helps. One being a cheat ring that gives you practically unlimited carrying. This is very useful cause I hated having to choose what to keep and what to drop as I adventured through dungeons or caves. Or once I reached my limit having to backtrack out to unload my goodies.

Anyways heres a link to the site where can find the mods I’m referring to.

Bethesda.net Dashboard

Thanks for the link; I've been collecting cheat codes for years, lol, after my first couple of games done the "hard way", when I didn't want to waste time going to my favorite parts!

First thing I do with a new character is use "god mode", tgm, so I don't have to load myself down with health potions; I sell those suckers to help increase my Speech skill. Also, tgm gives unlimited carry capacity and unlimited Magicka!

Next, I love to use "clipping off" or "fly" mode, tcl. I absolutely love flying above the beautiful vistas and scenery early in the game, lighting up locations for easy transport later on; also, flying in sneak mode helpfully increases my Sneak skill!

Of course, getting the home in Whiterun is high on the list early on, so once I have that, and all the storage that goes with it, I'm set to get serious about setting up the quest directions I want the game to take.

What are your first "priorities" with a new character? I usually start with Thieves' Guild, to begin building my Pickpocket and Locksmithing skills by doing quests for Vex and Delvin.

I’ve been eagerly waiting for 6.

I started playing Elder Scroll online but it doesn’t compare (favorably imo) to Skyrim.

The 6 better blow me away or it will be disappointing waiting for a dud. Especially since who knows how much more time I have on earth. :)

Hopefully Skyblivion and Skywind will be out before then. Either of those (or both, please) will keep me occupied for another 3 years, which looks like the more realistic ETA.

You’re welcome DiAnna.

It appears you are light years ahead of me. I didn’t know flying was available. After searching through the mods the only one I found that worked for me was a Rudolph flying deer. Kinda dorky but it works.

I’ll have more to say when time permits, but I’m pleased to find others here that appreciate the game.

Oh, you must try "fly" mode; just hit the `/~ key and type tcl. You'll see the message "clipping mode off". Then look up and start soaring! The views are breath-taking. (Don't forget to hit tcl again to put clipping back on, but make sure you're close to the ground when you do it, lol)

Hit the same key for god mode, tgm, player.additem/player.addspell, etc.

Drats! You’re playing on a PC. It has its advantages. Such as being able to get into the code to fix some bugs. I imagine you’re also tapped into Nexas mods.

I suppose my first objective is to acquire the three main hearthfire homes. These days I use the cheat mod that allows me to build and furnish them without having to acquire the materials needed. It doesn’t allow the smithing skill to level this way but I do that with weapons and armor. I at least want to get to 60 on that skill.

As far as quests go I try to keep them at a manageable level also. Especially the miscellaneous ones. The first main quest I go for is Joining the stormcloaks. Never cared much for the Imperial side.

I’ve been partial to the warrior type so I focus on building onehanded and archery skills.

I’m playing as I type so back to the game I go! :)

Rats!! Those codes don't work except on PC??? Damn, I so wanted you to get to fly. :(

I'm primarily a spell-sword; my level 60 current character made herself an ebony frost & fire sword, that does 462 dmg. Obviously, I do serious work on my smithing an enchanting early, getting them both to 100 as soon as possible. Being able to put two enchantments on each piece of armor is the absolute bomb, and makes my character a real skill powerhouse!

I'm more comfortable joining the Imperials than the Stormcloaks, lol, and I usually take care of the civil war fairly early in the game as well. I'm not in a rush to complete the main quest early on, but while I'm locating landmarks, I'm a real quest hog. As soon as I enter a new town, I start hunting for townsfolk quests to do; the sooner town jarl likes me, the sooner I'll be able buy a house and become a thane! I love the quick, run-and-fetch-it things that can rack up 3-5 happy townsfolk within 30 minutes or so.

Let me know how your current game is going when you have a chance!

Ever since I learned from you that flying is available I've been exploring my options in the mods. That's where Bethesda's comes up short compared to Nexus. I hear there's a tool that allows you to convert their mods to the xbox platform but whenever you play around changing things like that it can invite trouble in. So, unless some bright soul develops a mod for flying better than the Rudolph one I'm stuck with looking at his stupid red nose. :)

The current game I'm playing has been going pretty well (absent glitches). I'm currently at level 48 and I haven't scratched the surface questing. Usually I save Soltheim (Dragonborn quest) for when I've exhausted most of the main quests on the mainland. So I have a way to go before then. The highest level I recall ever achieving is around 80. I plan to go for 100 this time around before I start over. You mention of "spell-sword" interests me having never seen it as an option. Next time around I'll pay more attention to character creation.

I looked at the Nexus mods and see where Silian Manor is an option. You should check it out. It's a huge home and the beauty of it is that there is a teleportation spell found in it's main bedroom that allows you to teleport to the home from anywhere. That's especially handy when you've finished a quest in a dungeon and or cave.

I mentioned the "Cheat Room" mod (not available on Nexus). It contains every item found in the game. And I mean every item. So very early in the game I transport to it to pick up my armor and weapons that I prefer. Armour consists of Stalhrim (heavy) with particular water-breathing feature as a necessity. Weapons (primary) consists of the Daedric inferno sword and bow. I try to acquire the Mace of Malog Bog as soon as possible to use for filling soul gems.

I have yet to acquire every house available. Just started "Blood on the Ice" quest which will eventually lead to gaining the home in Windhelm. Oh that reminds me.

Did I mention Sjel Blad Castle? It's also available in Nexus. It's not a home per se. But it has some great features. Check it out if you get the chance. Having said that I find very little use for having all the homes. My primary residence (where my family resides) is Heljarchen Hall. But I do rely on Silian Manor for crafting and storing all my "goodies". It has a neat little hidey spot in the main bedroom where quest items acquire can be displayed.

One more thing before I'm off -- the "Imperials" for some reason always struck me as being the snooty side. You're not snooty, are you? ;)

The highest I've gone is level 72; by then, sometimes sooner, I'm getting antsy to start another game, lol! I always use one-handed and destruction as my main skills; I can use a bow, but prefer to use Incinerate as my distance weapon. I also use Muffle/Waterbreathing to increase my skill points by standing in the Whiterun pool, using left and right hands to cast each spell until I level up.

I don't know anything about Silian Manor or Sjel Blad Castle; I must figure out how to get to Nexus. I have a Bethesda account, but can't recall my ID/password and Bethesda never sent me the email it promised to help me find them, lol.

I have yet to acquire every house available. Just started "Blood on the Ice" quest which will eventually lead to gaining the home in Windhelm.

I do that quest ASAP, because there is a glitch (on the PC at least) that if you wait too long, the quest simply disappears and you can't cheat it back in!

I start my "family" in Solitude, and move them to Lakeside Manor when it's ready; that's where I have a Master Bdr/kids room, kitchen, trophy room. Heljarchen Hall is my "woman cave", where I have my armory, another trophy room, and indoor greenhouse. Windstad Manor is where I build the three towers, Library, Alchemy, Enchanting, because the view from each of those towers is breath-taking!

One more thing before I'm off -- the "Imperials" for some reason always struck me as being the snooty side. You're not snooty, are you? ;)

Nope, not snooty, but not a white nationalist, racist, bigot either, lol! Those damned Stormcloaks, always harassing anyone who isn't a big, strong Nord! But oddly enough, I always play a Nord female; guess I'm a social liberal even in Skyrim!

Have fun, and I'll keep trying to get a Bethesda account!
