I am just out of the hospital and will be a month at home. I rarely play games, but used to play civilization, one or two tycoon games, and a couple of others, way long ago.

I am looking for a game that will be engaging but not frustrating. I don't plan to spend hours developing any skill. Are there any suggestions for games that may help me while away a few hours each day over the next little while.

X-com 2 is Civilization meets squad level overhead turn-based strategy. I wish it was Co-op; I'd probably still play it.

The classic...Left 4 Dead...online.

Sorry to hear you had a hospital stay, I hope you're feeling better.

If you like to play poker, I suggest PokerStars. I've been playing live poker on that website for over a decade. It's where I learned to play Texas Hold-em. It's an international website and only players from outside the US can play for real money, there might be a couple of US States that allow gambling online. I play for 'play chips' but it's a lot of fun because you could get into a sit and go tournament with 8 other players and they'll be from all over the world, even Antarctica!

I've been playing so long and got so much help from other poker players along the way that I've become a pretty good poker player. I've even won tournaments on the cruises we've taken. Fun if you enjoy using your mind, developing a skill and communicating with others in a live game.

Not a gamer, but just wanted to send "get well" wishes. :)

Newer Civ type games:

1: Europa Universalis 4 - start as any country in the world in 1444, guide them through the year 1812. I would consider it top 5 games of all time.
2: Endless Space 2/Endless Legend - 4x games, well done. One fantasy, one sci-fi
3: Civ 6 - The newest iteration of the Civ series(sorta). Generally well done.

Newer Tycoon Games:

1: Planet Zoo - from the makers of Planet Coaster, build a zoo, make a profit, breed animals. Really well done, lots of fun, graphics are simply incredible. Highly recommended.
2: Transport Fever - Railroad Tycoon, but using boats and trucks and planes. Can start as early as 1850. Highly detailed, great look.
3: Railway Empire - Did you enjoy Railroad Tycoon? Than you will like Railway Empire
4: Rise of Industry - Tycoon/supply chain game. Well made.

Random other suggestions:

1: Factorio - You are stranded on another planet. Harvest resources, build things, automate harvesting, then automate building things, then build more complex things, and pretty soon you have thousands of robotic arms putting stuff on and off miles and miles of conveyors, building dozens of different things, all while fighting off hostile aliens who don't like pollution. Game is freaking brilliant.
2: Rimworld - I cannot think of a good, short description. But it is good, if really basic graphically.
3: Oxygen Not Included - Like the other 2 in this section, it is all about surviving while building increasingly complex systems. This version has a sense of humor and probably my favorite of the 3.
4: Battletech - Tactical combat with giant fighting robots.
5 - Crusader Kings 2 - Guide a dynasty through dark ages era Europe.

Here are my suggestions...

Civ-style games

Age of Wonders III - Fantasy Civ with tactical combat option

Civ 6 - It's more of what you already like

Galactic Civilizations III - A sort of Civ but with space fleets

Turn Based games

X-Com 2 - I kind of suggest this in a reserved way because I think it breaks you "no frustration" rule. It can be a challenging game and you can lose when you think you are doing well. Also, things are less predictable than you might like. You can certainly mitigate random FUBAR, but the game will find ways to screw you over anyway. It is a turn based squad combat game where you fight an alien invasion... GREAT game.

Phoenix Point - this is a game much like X-Com 2, made by the creator of the original X-Com, that looks pretty great, and way less frustrating than X-Com... everything makes some sense, and you can account better for randomness. I have watched hours of game play, but haven't had time to play it yet.

Tycoon Games

Planet Zoo - Great zoo management game with tons of options.

Jurassic World: Evolution - Plays much like Planet Zoo, with less options and more rampaging dinosaur catastrophes.

Rimworld - A sort of tycoon game, but you take control of a group of people who's spaceship has crashed on an alien world and you have to manage them and plan their survival. Top down, 2 dimensional game, but don't let that fool you... you will eventually see past that.

Prison Architect - Another Tycoon game, but you are building and managing a prison.

Two Point Hospital - Like Prison Architect, but managing a hospital.

You already mentioned Civilization. That's been my "go to" for when I need to kill time without having to think too much.

Rimworld might take a month just to get the hang of!

I appreciate that. I had a quad bypass. All my years of dubaucherie caught up to me.
not to get political, but it was a great time not to live in the U.S. I was ambulanced from my small town hospital to one of the top heart institutes in the country. spent 10 nights there including about 8 hours of surgery. The only thing I needed was to have my provincial health card. No paper work, no forms, no money.

What country?

I've been stuck on Streets of Rogue for quite a while now, and it keeps getting better.

It's a pixelated action rogue-like with a little bit for everyone. You can play as a bum, soldier, gorilla, thief, wrestler, cop, fireman, scientist, doctor, gang member, werewolf, vampire, a body-snatching imp, and a couple dozen others (or just build your own from scratch.)

They all support different playstyles and have different special missions that can unlock new characters or new abilities.

You fight and sneak you way through a pixelated town that is completely destructible (if that's what you want to do.)

It's also go a fair bit of humour baked in.

I'm mostly a turn-based guy myself, but I can't recommend this one enough.

My debauchery is catching up to me, so I know wherefrom you speak.
Hope it all works out well for you. Do your exercises and PT faithfully, and if you need a C-PAP, use it if you can.

I've been meaning to play that since I saw DangerouslyFunny play that:

"I'm running clinical trials on my sword, you'll have to excuse me."
