Great news! Thanks for the link. :kissy:

Yeah Mate I'm right there with you, Mass Effect blew my mind, Mass Effect 2 is nothing short of one of the greatest Masterpieces in RPG history and Mass Effect 3 had that bumpy ending issue, but all in all, I am waiting, hoping and praying for a Trilogy remastered bundle, along of course with a new game at some point.

Got Spider-Man and am in complete love with it. It's like a modern version of Spiderman 2 for the Gamecube and it's fantastic. It stole my weekend last weekend.

I will for sure get Red Dead and Assassins Creed: Odyssey. So excited for those two games. Specifically Assassins Creed, the setting and new RPG elements have me excited for an AC game like I haven't been for a very long time. Will eventually get Tomb Raider, but probably when it goes on sale. Nothing against it, but I still need to beat the second game, plus I only have so much time and money.

The reviews were so disappointing, so abysmal, and the clips I saw were... bizarre. Apparently they were supposed to be more "realistic"; sure, if that's another way of saying "deformed". I didn't buy it. I was sad. :(

Everyone was. Hopefully they can make another one and actually take their time with it, but with EA's history of shutting down acquired studios, I'm not so sure.

Couple of things.

First of all, I am one of those crazy people that actually enjoyed Andromeda, but I think that had to do with the fact I got it long after launch when it was actually fixed and on very good special... I can understand those that lost their **** on launch, paying full price, but a good reason never to pre-order.

But I'm sorely disappointed that no DLC ever got released.

Secondly, according to Biowares Casey Hudson...

Andromeda started out kinda okay, but quickly fell apart. Right after the first planet it became repetitive- every other world was just a reskin of the first- plus the sudoku minigame you had to do was ridiculous. The old saying that EA destroys once beloved games is very true.

Nah.

The big publishers will see the “games as service” model will begin to tap itself out soon enough.

Single player games will be in rage again soon enough, what kind of monetization scheme it’ll feature well... that’s another story.

Always remember: if you want good games, look for games from Paradox. If you want popular games, look for games from Bethesda, and Activision, and EA.l

I admire your optimism, but Fortnite, CS:Go etc. have proven the insane cash potential of meaningless skins, and that market can't exit in a solo game since the whole point of new skins is to show them off to other people.

I think the pay-to-win model is dying because it alienates a healthy chunk of the potential audience, but pay-to-be-pretty is here to stay.

I have to say, I'm buying into the hype for Star Control: Origins. I'm not really clear on how Stardock ended up offending the Star Control fans, but I also really don't care. Star Control is in my to 10 games of all time, and this looks like a worthy re-imaging of that amazing game.

At release, the campaign galaxy will have 700 stars and 3000 planets. All of the mechanics that made Star Control so great seem to have been directly carried over. It will be more nostalgic for me than, for instance, X-Com, which was a completely re-imagined game. Whether this will pull a lot of gamers in is certainly a question. There are a long list of indi games that tried to recapture that niche with only moderate success (SPAZ, Space Rangers, etc.) so it remains to be seen how this will go.

Also, as a gaming pessimist I see this more as a last hoorah than a new beginning unless they figure out a way to create a Battle Royale mode and loads of pointless and expensive re-skins.

But I am going to enjoy the hell out of it, even though I may shed a tear for the golden age of gaming as I do it.

I have it pre-ordered. I watched a gameplay video last night and I am kinda worried I will be disappointed based on that, but I still have hope.

Good point, absolutely correct.

I recently felt after getting heavily back into Overwatch the strength of their cosmetic economy.

I’m ashamed to say this, but I spent $50 on loot boxes to

A: get some skins and currency to maybe get a couple I actually wanted.

B: see just how bad they were in terms of what you get.

C: because I was frustrated at how slowly I was getting them and just wanted a bunch.

I am deeply against loot boxes, but I had to self analyze what made me do such an insane thing in that moment of weakness and say **** it and pull the trigger.

I’ve spent very little money on micro transactions in my life, I’d say easily under $200 including this purchase, but those few times I’ve done so, we’re nothing compared to this.

The insidious nature of loot boxes and their insane gravitational pull is frightening, I absolutely want to purchase more and I’m someone who’s not a gambler or anything, play a bit of black jack and that’s it.

These things are awful and while being able to just pay upfront for The skin or whatever else it is you want is preferable and a step up, it’s still a shame it has to be this way.

I don’t blame the publishers from a business perspective for doing what they do, but unfortunately for them, I predict the loot box system is going to bring the industry a world of hurt if they don’t self regulate this insanely underhanded system.

The other side of the coin is the consumer of course, if they didn’t buy in, the publishers wouldn’t do it, but that’s where the underhanded and predatory nature of loot boxes renders that argument a little moot, upfront transactions instead of making it a matter of progression is where the consumer is more responsible and could turn the tide by choosing not to purchase.

The Whales will keep the former system going as long as legislation doesn’t stop the publishers.

Sorry for the long post, rant over.

Not a long rant, and it needs to be said more often.

Interestingly, I have never paid for the pay-to-be-pretty loot boxes, though I did pay for a vanity set in POE but really that was only because after a few hundred hours of playing they deserved my money. But I have a problem with the even dumber version of pay to win that is the mobile game economy. I have since kicked the habit, but really I could only kick the habit by going cold turkey on mobile games. I think the worst I got was with C.A.T.S. ... I don't like to think how much money I blew on loot crates with that game.

From the video I watched it appears to be exactly Star Control 2, just with different races and star map.

I'll miss the Zoq-Fot-Pik... and not just because of their cleverly placed, phony life pods. *old school wokka*

Im never gonna buy it. I heard that the original creators of SC1 and 2 will be coming out with their own- and in the same universe- so I'll wait for that one.

Well, I'll play both and enjoy them.

Yeah, I was hoping to queue it this morning before heading to work, but I usually have about a million chores to get done when I get home each night so, in theory, I won't lose any time playing so long as it is available to install when I get home.

My only concern right now, and it is maybe the most 1st-Worldy problem ever, is whether or not I buy a joystick to play it while I'm at lunch.

Humor and dialog is great so far. Gameplay is ok but nothing great so far. Mouse/keyboard seems to work just fine for controlling the game.

My take as well. But it is almost exactly Star Control 2 in all of it's mechanics and general plot, too, it should be pointed out.

Mutant Year Zero is out now, and it is godly. X-Com style combat(2 action points, attacking ends turn, cover is key, overwatch, etc), but you move around the game map in real time, setting up your squad(just 2 so far) where you want them before starting combat. Stealth is hugely important, as thinning out the enemy forces before they know you are there is key to winning.

Plus a talking duck and boar as main characters.

Just heard about this today: Age of Wonders Planetfall

Oh, man... I am so looking forward to this game. I love the AOW series, and a Sci-Fi AOW will be amazing.

Honestly, I stopped playing PC games about 6 years ago.

The insane push in the last half decade or so to ramp up the hardware requirements more and more finally completely pushed me away from them. I am a fairly casual gamer, and the idea of spending hundreds of dollars just on a video card every 2 to 3 years was just to much. Plus the ever increasing demands they have for RAM and processor power.

For example, my PC was most recently given a major upgrade in late 2012, right before the Xbox One came out. But it does not come close to meeting the requirements to play Fallout 76, a game that runs just fine on my Xbox One. And as I saw this more and more with other games, I finally gave up even trying to buy another PC game, and only buy them on console now.

Do not get me wrong, I much prefer playing games on my computer. But the game makers are the ones who pushed me out by their insane drive to design games only for the more recent hardware, not realizing that many of us have no desire to completely rebuild out computer every other year and add in hundreds of dollars of new hardware constantly just to play the newest version of GTA or Civilization.

It’s such a weird thing, besides the odd indie here or there I don’t purchase PC games at all anymore, I’ve got nearly every game I could ever want in PC, mostly older stuff and that’s all I need, if I ever have too much money I may think about going with a serious rig but I’m happy with what I got and things like Imperator Rome May peak my interest but every time I look at a steam sale, not seen anything in a long time that I gotta have.
