A thread for games that are going, or recently have had, a 1.0 release..

Re: Games that have ready to release 1.0

I'm in that mood lately that only Dwarf Fortress-esque games can satisfy.

Stonehearth:

Currently I am playing the 1.0 release of Stonehearth, a game most like it's inspiration Dwarf Fortress. I have found the 1.0 release to finally have most of the bugs smoothed out, and desperately needed features added. I've played for hours since the new release without having to ask "but why?!".

I think the most welcome addition to the full release is stairs. Gone are the days where we are forced to meticulously issue incremental build orders to slowly stack wall segments, or shave away layers of dirt, needed to create stairs. Haven't gotten past early game, yet, so I'll have to wait and see if the late game brain freeze issue has been resolved.

Rimworld:

Last I check the 1.0 release was still imminent, but this is probably my most anticipated full release right now. The game has felt complete for a while, but the finally release will be incorporating a lot of mod ideas and improvements that will make a great game greater.

Two Point Hospital- Due Aug. 30, looks like a fun tycoon game with a sense of humor.
Star Control: Origins: Due September 20. New Star Control game, should be ****ing awesome.
Bard's Tale IV- Due Sept 18. New Bard's Tale game, looks nice
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden: Due 2018. X-Com, with a talking duck! It has to be great.

Learning about the existence of Star Control Origins is the reason I started this thread. I didn't know it existed!

Edit: Also, I think my fascination with playing beta and alpha games has come to an end. I think I am on a strict diet of released games from now on. I find that I invest all of my time in games during development ad then lose interest after release when I really should be enjoying them.

That said, I am having a lot of fun with Stonehearth... I just wish someone could apply that engine to the complexity of Dwarf Fortress.

Well I've been following DayZ since Standalone launched Early Access Alpha in 2014. Put in well over 1200 hours into it.

Its .63 patch is its beta, currently on their experimental build as they're adding back all the weapons/features not present in the new engine. Once that hits Stable, which may be VERY soon since the devs are playing an internal stress test build with one remaining bug to sort out, then 1.0 will finally (after four years) hit. I'm expecting Q1 2019.

Its easily my favorite survival/horror game. The people are a far greater threat than the zombies, but the interactions with people can be amazing.

Its not for everyone, especially not if you crave the Call of Duty rate of encounters per second then DayZ will seem like a hiking simulator at times. But for me, dying and killing in the CoD type shooters is almost meaningless. But in a permadeath game like DayZ where you spend hours surviving and gearing up, the moment you hear a gunshot and realize you're under fire no other shooter gets my heart pounding.

Reading up on this new Star Control game (Im a huge fan since I played the first 2 and regrettably, the 3rd) it seems that it has nothing to do with the previous games because the current owners sued the original game designers for the rights.

Im going to take a wait and see attitude to this because Im pretty skeptical now.
