I buy about 10 games for every one I actually play.

I don't like 3rd persons games. I don't like most console ports. Either the controls are messed up, or silly puzzles that can only be done by a teen drinking Red Bull (I am 67).

Being 67, I can't play fighting games against teens drinking Red Bull. I do like internet coop, like Borderlands.

I just got Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice, and while there are things I like about it, the fighting seems console-ish, and it seems silly. You want to get into hell. No problem, but it's like you are in apt courtyard, and need to beat everybody in all the other apartments to get in. If they were caretakers, they should come out and say high.

I tried Witcher 3, but holding the button until you wanted to strike bothered me, and it looked like the fighting was going to get very console-ish.
Dishonored was alright, but it didn't hold my interest.

I have been playing Skyrim a lot, too much, really. Need something new, and Elder Scrolls 6 won't be out for a year or two.

I like Mechwarrior, but on Steam it's horribly repetitive. Loved Mechwarrior 2. That came free with the first real video game card ever made. Loved Borderlands 1, Borderlands 2 was good, but lacked the goofy purity (not really a great choice words there) that the first one had. "This planet smells like hemmoroids wrapped in bacon." Not something you hear every day..

Long time ago, I loved Warbirds, but it changed. That was the last flying game I played a lot. I liked Total Annihilation, and it was the last strategy game I played a lot. I still play it occasionally, but its always the same map, I give myself extra resources, quickly build impenetrable defense, and then build 2 nuke launchers. I think try to obliterate everything but the first guy, that would end the game. Portal was wonderful, but as a rule I hate puzzles.

I am considering getting a new game or two. I was thinking of getting Witcher 3 and trying to change the controls to the classic style. Kinda doubt that would work.

Open to suggestions.

TIA.

you sound kinda like me except I'm that way with guitars; I buy about 10 for every one I play.

I've owned over 400 guitars, still have about 35 so, the math is pretty close.

I'll make you a deal; I'll buy a few games from you if you buy one guitar from me

I really wanted to play the guitar, but I have small hands. When asked, I told the guitar teacher I wanted to play like BB King. He got a sad look on his face.

You might like the Fallout series, most recent is...Fallout 4, I think. Post-apocalyptic elder scrolls, kinda. Same company has done the last few skyrim/fallout games.

Personally I enjoy some ARPG's (action role playing games), such as Path of Exile, or more recently, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor Martyr
If you liked Mechwarrior you might like Battletech, although it's not a shooter but rather a turn-based squad combat game of sorts.

The of course there's Minecraft, which in theory you could spend days of time building stuff in, or modding it to add thousands of additional possible things to be built or used.

If you're looking for slower pace I'd go with turn-based combat games or ones that can be paused.
Stellaris is a space grand strategy sci-fi game, or something like that.

Kinda hard to tell what you would like from that, so I will just list some stuff I like, and if any sounds interesting, great.

Any Paradox Development games: Europa Universalis 4 is the king of their games, Stellaris is a space game, Victoria 2, Hearts of Iron 4. They are all complex, deep grand strategic simulations. EU4 goes from 1444 to the 1800s, Victoria 2 from the early 1800s to right before WW2, Stellaris starts in the future, and Hearts of Iron 4 is WW2. Paradox also publishes games from other developers(rarely), and have Surviving Mars(city builder...on Mars) and Battletech(squad level tactics with giant fighting mechs). All those are most highly recommended. I have far too much time in all of them.

My favorite Total War series game is Shogun 2. Most of the Total War series is decent to good. Turn based strategy combines with realtime tactics.

Xcom and Xcom 2 are pretty awesome, squad level turn based tactics, fighting an alien invasion.

The classic Elder Scrolls Morrowind you can get for 8 bucks right now on Steam. Possibly the best first person RPG ever.

Railway Empires is a nice railroad tycoon game.

I've done strategy games in the past, heck I was playing them when I was a teen going to Bedrock High with Fred and Barnie. Guess I am tired of them. Partly that's because Go spoiled me.

But mostly I just can't get into 3rd person games, at least not anymore. I want to be in the Mech, not above it.

It's funny, I got Morrowind, thinking that if I liked Skyrim, I'd like the Elder Scrolls 4. It was clunky and annoying. I got Fallout 3 and New Vegas, too bleak. I am eventually going to give 4 a try. But one of the things I like best about Skyrim is I like the way it looks.

Sorry, I realise I am doing a Princess and the Pea. I have the same problem with movies, they just don't make them like they used to, except on those rare occasions when they do.

Get Nox. Install it on your PC. Download and install Battle Bay. Build out your favorite ship. Play team PvP. It's fun.

Nah, you are fine. Different folks for different styles.

The modern XCOM games are amazing if you like strategy games. Turn based so it’s all about having Plan B, C, and D for when Plan A inevitably goes haywire, rather than twitch reflexes.

Subnautica.

Subnautica

I did a lot of skin and scuba diving when I was a teen.

I think if you've done something, say hunting for example, you don't want a video game about hunting. You'd want to hunt. But I wouldn't mind going to the Caribbean, crystal clear warm water. Some place with silly drinks and lots of bikinis and great food.

Don't forget Crusader's Kings, covering the late 9th century to early 15th century.

A few years back I did nothing but dive around in the tropics for a year and can totally relate to this game. If you love the ocean, This is the one for you. First time I played it I thought I'd go for just a couple of hours after dinner. The next thing I knew it was morning!

I'll give it a try sometime.

At the moment, my inner Conan the Barbarian wants to come out and play.

Have you tried Supreme Commander? If you liked Total Annihilation and turtling up an impenatrable defense, SupCom does it best.

I did not forget it, I intentionally did not list it. To me, it is the one big fail from PDS. I really think that if they make a CK3 it will fix alot of the things I hate in CK2(ala where EU4 did with some flawed mechanics in EU3), but until then, I am just going to have to be excited about the new Rome game coming out.

We need Vicky 3 before CK3 tbh.

Though I would be interested in a game that covers the Cold War up until Present Day. While no nuclear World War 3 actually broke out during that period, it could be designed around allowing for potential alternate history where it does, given the Cold War's big "If either superpower presses the wrong buttons we just might end the world" thing.

I am interested in the new Rome game.

If you just wanna kill something, join me in Planetside 2. You can fight against hundreds of other players all at once as infantry, vehicles or aircraft. It's free to play too. The graphics are a bit dated but its still good.

Cool. Im on the Connery (west coast) server, but you could always go for one of the east coast servers and join an outfit.

Tip: dont spend all your certs on new weapons, the default ones are good and its best to get used to them first. Use the points to get the support stuff first, like improving your armor, ammo packs and medikits.

I'd recommend Civilization 6, if you haven't played it yet. It's good for us old-geezers that don't want to twitch game for extended periods.

Subnautica is also an amazing game. It's very original, and beautiful.

That's such a good game. Haven't played in ages though. It's very twitch, though...and I'm not sure he wants that.
