Supposedly, it is starting June 21st. I usually pick up a good chunk of games during the sale. What are other people getting, and what recommendations do people have for games I should consider getting?

I might finally check out Terra Tech....that game looks pretty solid, and they are bringing out multi player, soooo.... Ya, probably that, if nothing else.

Love the summer sale (and memes that come with it) but I don’t find much to buy anymore, I’ve got practically everything
I could ever want

What classics are up this year?

What do you like?

Summer Sale is getting a lot of bad reviews.

If you haven't played Portal, it's cheap and great. I loved Borderlands the original. I am currently playing Skyrim, and I am looking for something new. Most games drive me nuts. Console ports usually have problems, and tend to be aimed at kids.

I like Mechwarrior. But I couldn't get this to work:

It's supposed to be good. I play Mechwarrior on Steam occasionally, but it's just a bunch of fights with nothing connecting them. I don't like 3rd person games for the most part, so I have no interest in Battletech.

All depends on what floats your boat.

It depends on what kind of games you like - strategy, FPS, Real time vs turn based, city builders, space theme, fantasy theme, etc.

Dunno yet what will be on sale, though usually most stuff is at some point during the sale.

Have you tried the new Battletech game? There is a thread on it here, and is a lot of fun.

I enjoy all that. Part of the fun of the summer sale is trying stuff I normally wouldn’t...for example, I don’t play much action type games, but if Neir: Automita(sp?) goes on sale, will probably grab it to try.

I bought the very first real gaming video card, and Mechwarrior 2 came with it. That's Mechwarrior for me, you are in a mech, blowing sh* to hell. As a rule I don't like 3rd person games, but never for Mechwarrior. It's like taking a shower in a raincoat.

I've started the first Pillars of Eternity. Good stuff so far. Feels like more modern Baldur's Gate/Neverwinter Nights type game.

There's a Pillars II out that I don't have. Probably will get that if it goes back on sale.

Has any one tried Planet Nomads?

For those interested, this is my Steam wish list as of right now(sorted by price):

Ogre
Oriental Empires
Empyrion-Galactic Survival
Planet Nomads
They are Billions
Battlefleet Gothic: Armada
Homeworld Remastered
Civil War 2
Shroud of the Avatar
Steel Division Normandy '44
Strategic Command WW2
Divinity Original Sin 2
Decisive Campaign Barbarrossa

Edit: not on the wishlist but waiting for a sale, the Victoria 2 DLCs

I cannot praise Divinity Original Sin 2 enough, its fantastic!

Also, I see that Witcher III GOTY is on sale for $20

I dont think its on sale, but you havent played Subnautica yet I would suggest you give it a go. One of the best games in recent memory for me.

Empyrion - Galactic Survival went on sale today, so picked it up. Looks potentially fun so far, another of the survival type games, crash land on a planet, gather resources, build ****, and so on. For 10 bucks, I am not out much if it does not live up to my expectations.

I loved Pillars one, ended up disappointed in Pillars II. The progression system in Pillars II is pretty broken if you play it in non-leveled mode (where enemies don't adjust to meet your level) because, like Pillars I, there is a finite number of enemies, leaving you to search for the part of the world you should be leveling in.

I'll keep a look out. One Steam Summer sale, I ended up with pretty much all the Star Wars games ever, lol.

Any news on what may be coming on sale?

Slight update: I mentioned that Empyrion - Galactic Survival was on sale and I picked it up...big win there, lots of fun. Recommended for any one who likes the No Man's Sky/Space Engineers style survival/crafting game. I like the look alot better than No Man's Sky, and it has the ability to use blueprints to build larger stuff, so you do not have to design all your bases and vehicles yourself(though you still can). Lots of cool blueprints on Steam workshop for the game. Note: I recommend that for your first few games, turn off drones. Having to regularly stop what you are doing to fight drones attacking your base sucks.

Last year, my whole wishlist was on sale at some point during the sale.

I'll keep it in mind.

I don't particularly like games where creatures always scale to level since it hinders a feeling of power progression. But, it's not the end of the world if done correctly.

Me too. I love the "I'll be back for you later!" moments in games like Fallout 1&2 and Wasteland 2. But the one thing that those games had was a random encounter system that allowed you to just wonder looking for trouble that would grant XP and loot that would allow you to raise your level independent of story. Pillars doesn't, so when you hit a rough patch you are left travelling the world looking for somewhere and someone to beat up. Pillars II it becomes problematic because you have food and water considerations on board your ship so you can't just travel forever, and sailing the open seas is a quick way to get killed as there are pirates sailing the seas that will end you.

The sale has started. Everything on my wishlist except one game on sale, and all but one of those for at least 50 % off. Time for some hard thinking...

Edit: and note that Steam is very very slow right now.
