Steam Summer Sale

Has anyone played Monster Hunter World or ESO? Seriously considering those 2.

I have a bunch of hours in ESO and thoroughly enjoy it even though it IS NOT a traditional Elder Scrolls game. It's been updated consistently and has more content than I can reasonably explore.

I have so many games on my rotation right now, I don't really know what I could possibly need...

Then again, I didn't get to 300 games in my Steam library by showing restraint during seasonal sales. I think I've probably played 30% of them for more than a few hours.

I hear that!

There are a ton of games in my library that have either zero hours or less than an hour. Meanwhile, Civ V has just passed 2000 hours....and I had it on CD before I had a Steam account.

That is another interesting thing about my Steam account. There are only a handful of games that have reached the 100+ hour mark, and most of those didn't reach 150 hours. I have nowhere near 2000 hours on any game in my steam library. I'm interested now in finding out what Steam game I played the most. I know that WH40K Inquisition is up past 300 hours, which would certainly put it in contention, which seems odd to me.

Edit: If I had to guess which game I have logged the most hours in, it might be WOW, which is sad, because it is nowhere near my favorite game of all time.

I wouldn't say that Civ is my favorite game. It just happens to be the one I play when I need a break from the other ones. It's one of those games I don't have to think about and I can just vegetate for an hour or two.

Yeah, I have become a busy man, and prize any game I can pause or just walk away from. WH40K Martyr missions are like 10 minutes each tops, and last night I had to pause one 3 times.

That might be why I set PoE aside. It is an online-always game, so there is no pause, so when the wife calls me I have to race to find a safe spot where I won't die, or log off and lose my progress.

That is why I love the summer sale. I can try stuff, and if even one of the games I try I really like, it's all good.

Holy ****, ESO is 85.7 gigs...

This years sale starts today at 1 EST. Expect the biggest sale yet as Steam competes with the Epic store.

Listen, jackass, I'm buying a house right now. Don't do this to me.

Like I said, it's a LOT of content.

I see that. I forgot to check which drive I had Steam set to install to, hoping it was the data HD and not the much smaller SSD that I only use for really slow loading games.

The full install might include 2 versions of the game. There is a "Player Test Server" if you're playing the PC version which is a duplicate copy of the game but it's where you can test builds and Bethesda can test new content.

Never mind. I just checked and the single install is 78.3GB. The PTS is the same so the total file size is nearly 160GB

I just saw that Civilization 6 and Rise and Fall and lots of add ons is on sale for $29.....might have to snap that up.

Also, did you hear? Microsoft is making a new Flight Simulator!!!!!

I am a huge FS fan, my pilot friends used to ask me how to do things on it (after they returned from a 6 hour flight in the right seat of an Airbus A320).

Looky:

About to do my first quest in Monster Hunter World. Not sure how I will like the game overall, but they did a great job porting it to the PC, controls scheme works much better than most console ports. The intro that gets you used to moving around the world and introduces you to the world of the game is simply fantastic. I recommend watching a let's play or something where you can see it.

Also picked up the Homeworld Remastered collection, mostly because I loved the original and it was like 6 or 7 bucks.

Well, after perusing the summer sale yesterday I didn't find anything worth buying that I didn't already have... except a few DLC for WH40K Martyr that were half price.

I'm not a fan of the MH series, it's... meh grindy and reliant too much on other people. For me. ESO isn't bad, FFXIV is way better.

HW!!! The narrator, the mood they set, it's amazing.

FYI,

If you got it via Steam...good luck. I heard the people connecting via steam had (and maybe have) a major headache trying to log in after patches, so I ended up getting it straight from Zenimax. ie, from the last 18 months,

What are actually the problems with eso on steam? :: The Elder Scrolls Online English

Steam's insanely stupid issues with ESO — Elder Scrolls Online

Fix Steam PC/EU Issues — Elder Scrolls Online

Update on Steam Login Issues — Elder Scrolls Online

How to purchase access to the regular launcher/ESO64.exe (for Steam users) — Elder Scrolls Online

Though, even getting it via Zenimax directly can have issues, at least for Macs. Pretty much every patch, I'll log in and spin uncontrollably. I have to log out, go to Security & Privacy, over to Accessibility, unlock the settings, remove "eso", "setup", and "Zenimax Online Studious Launcher", lock the settings, unlock the settings, add them back in, lock settings, start the launcher but not launch the game from it. Instead, I launch the game from "Eso" directly, but with the launcher open.

This usually works and I can play. But sometimes the wild spinning still occurs and I have to once more go into those settings and remove "setup" only, then do start up the game.

It works, but don't ask me why.

Hah. I played some version in the mid 90s. I don't think I ever managed to land properly.

From about the 1:00 point. Some of the best voice acting in games, just chilling.

Decided to finally pick up Steins;Gate. Damn it is good. Possibly the best visual novel of all time.

I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but WH40K Inquisitor in on half price sale in the Steam Summer sale for $25. It also just underwent a huge overhaul with lots of new endgame stuff.

Obviously with 300+ hours in the game I think it's worth it.

Is it grindy? Yeh

Is it repetitive? Well.. yeah... like any ARPG

But it's different enough than the average ARPG that, if you like ARPGs, it's worth giving a go.

Also, if you choose to buy it, I think it is safe to avoid all of the DLC side missions. Most are just simple side quests that add flavor with little pay out.. I would suggest spending $1.50 on the Maelstrom of Carnage DLC, however, since it's just a nice tool for starter gear grinding in late game.

I got Civilization VI and Rise and Fall, might buy the Gathering Storm add-on.

My partner just moved in a few weeks back. Now she has seen first hand the madness of the "one more round" type of games. Civ VI is pretty daunting, I've had every version before. Its very hard to win at a higher level, I need to do more spying and diplomacy...

I'm not sure what it is about CIV IV, but I have owned it since it came out and have put maybe 20 hours into the game, if that. Something about it just seems off, and I have given it like 10 chances to pull me in, but it just doesn't.

I learned a lot, I used it frequently when I worked for the airlines, I even did some advanced classes on it for real pilots. I still have a yoke that works well, but no pedals. I went in and repurchased the old one which now has a version on Steam, so it gets updates. Only thing I don't like about this new one coming up is that it is a subscriber model..grrr

I started ESO when it first came out, but it didn’t really grab me. Started up again a few months ago and love it.
