I have just had a game on steam (KSP) install a new default home page onto my browser, one showing how to buy the expansion I don't want, lock me out of my game possibly delete the game I was playing, and steam does not allow me to make a comment or properly log in to make a complaint.

How arrogant and theiving of these gits!!!

I would email steam support in your case.

I don't know much about Steam, though I have installed a game or two through them.

My guess is that you somehow got a hold of a hacked version of the game. I did a bit of looking and it seems similar things happened some years ago involving the KSP demo.

My suggestion is to roll back your computer (assuming you are using Windows) to an earlier version, run various AV scans (your usual AV, Windows Defender, MalwareBytes, etc) to make sure your computer if free of crap and then see if your Steam account if accessible. If it is, then tell Steam about it. (not the community forum...Steam)

As I said, I don't use Steam much, but maybe this page will help you: https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithAccountStolen

I have a friend on the case at the moment, it seems my saved files have corrupted themselves or something.... Arrrrgh!

Steam shouldn't have any power over your browser (I assume you're using chrome). There might be something else afoot, possibly other malware.

It's not in Steams interest to use tactics like this as it drives away customers.

Save game files can typically be found in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Kerbal Space Program

for windows or

~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Kerbal Space Program

for mac.

I had an issue with corrupted save games, but that was mainly down to me downloading and maintaining a bunch of mods.

KSP is a great game, hope you enjoy.
