So I'm trying to figure out what I may be able to nab on the Christmas Sales next month, I had a bit of a wishlist going, wanted to see what your thoughts might be, what are you holding out for this year?

I think I'm gonna try and get:

Assassins Creed Origins

South Park The Fractured But Hole

COD WWII (although I'm really on the fence about this one).

Star Wars Battlefront II (I actually don't think I will, we as consumers should really punish EA for the kinds of Micro-transactions they went with in this game, but we won't and it'll sell well, played the beta and it's a big improvement on the first one, but I don't think it's enough, it'd have to be a pretty good deal to force my hand).

Far Cry 5 (Definitely gonna wait for the reviews but a big Far Cry fan).

What you holding out for?

Depends on what you want to play battlefront II for. I hear the storyline is only 5-7 hours long so that’s not worth it unless you play it for multiplayer mostly.

A new game has just appeared. completely diferent from the kill everything that moves games that most enjoy. But sounds like it might be interesting and even educational.
https://www.waldengame.com/
Walden, a game is a first person simulation of the life of American philosopher Henry David Thoreau during his experiment in self-reliant living at Walden Pond. The game begins in the summer of 1845 when Thoreau moved to the Pond and built his cabin there. Players follow in his footsteps, surviving in the woods by finding food and fuel and maintaining their shelter and clothing. At the same time, players are surrounded by the beauty of the woods and the Pond, which hold a promise of a sublime life beyond these basic needs. The game follows the loose narrative of Thoreau’s first year in the woods, with each season holding its own challenges for survival and possibilities for inspiration.

I got burned hard on the last Battlefront game; I'm going to sit on this one for a year and wait for the price to come down and then just play the campaign mode. I have very little patience or time for online FPS games now. I can't powerlevel and pwn n00bs like I could back in the day.

Monster Hunter World, most definitely.

I am also waiting to make a decision on CoD WW2. Its a CoD game so I am not really going to be able to make a better decision until I get more information. Though I have seen some good gameplay, and the zombie mode "because you know there had to be one" looks really great.

Battlefront 2 does look like its really improved from part 1, which was kind of a rather large flop IMO. The micro transaction issue is one that I have a massive hate ball in my chest for. Like what happened with Overwatch, after we bought a 60$ game.. with no story mode, or any single player whatsoever, and we were still supposed to drop more money on just skins, sprays, emotes.. etc?

I would rather, and I still do play Battleborn. The writing is better, the co-op is better, it has a better story "as in actually having one", and it has actual viable different game modes. Shame it got steam rolled by the likes of Blizzards advertisements.

Football Manager 2018 as usual, but the price is pissing me off. Might pirate the damn thing for the first time in a decade.. not sure.

Other than that, nothing really shouts "get me". Hate first person shooters, so Battlefront 2, WW2 whatever and all that is useless for me. Strategy wise there aint much out there that is interesting.

FM18 is the first one I'm going to skip since I started playing more than a decade ago.
It's just the exact same product year after year, nothing that is worth paying money for.

Ya, FM17 is deep enough for me to not pay 60-70 bucks for updated rosters.

This, but i'm also a /r/patientgamer and tend to always wait.

Right now I'm loving my new Switch. Barely touched Zelda, Mario is Amazing but have been sinking most of my hours into Stardew Valley; crazy addicting farming game, very calming too.

On PC I'm finding Divinity 2 Original Sin extremely challenging, in a good way. I have such a backlog that I'm not interested in the latest COD or Assassins Creed. I will have to make time for the new South Park game.

Well.. I would have said the same from 16 to 17, but there are significant changes this year. But at 55 euros it is getting too expensive. I remember before Steam days it was only 20 euros... damn the Steam tax is high.

The issue with the battlefront 2 micro transactions and why they are so atrocious is EA has come up with a deeply disturbing system.

Instead of the supply drops, crates... Whatever they are, being purely cosmetic... In this case with BF2, you get skills instead.

That's right instead of levelling up and unlocking new skills, In BF2, skills are unlocked by randomized crates... Which of course you can pay to get more.

It's insane.

Yeah there's a story behind that, I've got a decent PC but for the time being because of its location and other factors (mainly wife agro) it's Xbox One only for now.

I'm waiting with baited breath for the next historical total war however.

Maybe a decent MMO to come out of the woodwork.

Would love to play WoW again one day.

Rofl...don't make eye contact with wife boss or she'll charge. I got the boot from WoW a few years ago. Too bad about the Total War thing as the Warhammer series is way better than the other versions, imo. There is much more diversity in play style by what you pick to play as. I just got Total War: Warhammer II, after playing the first one. I've played since Shogun when I was in high school.

So they are trying to turn it into a pay to win sort of deal, as in "drop a wad of cash" and load your dude up with some pretty good skills. Which I am also not sure if you can use either common skills across multiple soldier classes. Or you will have to load up different skills for each individual character.

So this game is going to nickel & dime us to death as well..? Great...

I would rather stick with EsO, and max out my tank if that is the case.

I have this. Kinda regret it. It's definitely pretty, but nothing ground-breaking. If you played "COD: World At War," you played this one...except this one has way too many cut scenes of over-emoting soldiers and unnecessary drama. I found myself going back to 64-player multiplayer on Battlefield 1 (COD:WWII only allows 6 per side).

I broke and got it, I’m digging it but I convinced myself it was ok because I boycotted black ops 3 and infinite warfare.

I really like the headquarters idea, can’t wait for them to fix it so I can fight some dudes in the pit.

I agree about the campaign though and boy oh boy did they play it safe “let’s do every scene from band of brothers and saving private Ryan”.

As a bit of a history buff I just about **** my pants on the first campaign mission when I realized a German at Omaha beach was using a Russian PPSH... I’m currently doing research and apparently there might be something to this (apparently the Germans captured quite a few of these weapons and may have converted them to use in their army) but throwing in that detail definitely raised my eyebrows.

Looks like Battlefront 2 is going to bomb. EA defended their micro transactions in the worst way and people are looking for blood

A Star Wars game is making Reddit really angry - CNET

Heres the post it already has 445,000 downvotes the previous reddit record was 24,000 and that was because that post asked for downvotes

EA said:
The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we're looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.
We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.
Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.

Is EA run by greedy people, stupid people, or stupid, greedy, morons?

Until recently it was just greedy people, but it looks likes now they have hired some stupid people as well for a healthy mix of stupid, greedy, morons

I think that EA games is trying to piss off Star Wars fans more than George Lucas

Funny...throughout the whole campaign I kept saying to myself, "Stupid EA...these are Russian guns these Nazis have!" Like you, I looked it up and laughed that the PPSH shared the same cartridge as the German Mauser, so they already had compatible ammunition. Who'da thought?

Both. EA knows their fan base very well.

Hell...there are STILL idiots who will buy GTA5 for $30, then turn around and spend $100 worth of online money just so they can have a yacht sitting out in the ocean (doing nothing).

Warning. Rant is about to commence.

I borrowed a Nintendo switch from someone and I've been playing some Zelda and Mario Kart today... Now I've never played a Zelda game and I've played Mario kart a few times with friends over the years, can't wait to try out Mario Odyssey, looks phenomenal.

And you know, it does dawn on me, Mario first appeared obviously in the arcade game Donkey Kong all the way back in 1981...

And The Legend of Zelda first appeared in 1986.

Both have become among the most enduring game franchises of all time, they are adored by millions upon millions of fans all over the world, and hundreds of thousands of fans, who took that first Journey with Mario and Link all those years ago, STILL do and apparently Odyssey and Breath Of The Wild are considered by some critics as Masterpieces, the fact that Nintendo is capable of continuing to rienvent their star lineup and continue to create hits and continue to make money is a testament to their enduring design philosophy.

And what is it about Nintendos approach to their franchises that seems to be completely lost by other publishers such as the Evil Empire (EA)?

Now not to say that Nintendo has always got it right, but these Publishers are so ****ing short sighted, they'd rather completely annihilate their fanbases to make a quick buck off microtransactions and other gimmicks, than create a steady and enduring franchise that will make them money for years to come?

I mean Call of Duty kind of gets away with it because they had a solid franchise before they got into this nonsense but I do admit, the fault also lies with the consumer because many people have bought into it and the way things are, I don't see it ending any time soon if it ever does.

Gamers are one of the most powerful and vocal consumers out there in terms of the way that the Publishers and Developers respond to criticism, I mean you need only look at say... the Mass Effect 3 ending debacle to see the power of gaming backlash is so much so, that a developer has to go back and CHANGE THE ENDING TO THEIR GAME... It's an amazing demonstration of what Gamers can achieve when they speak in a singular voice that they do not approve of what these Publishers are doing and Battlefront II should have united all gamers in a boycott against such shady practices.

All in all... Gaming at this moment although we are still getting year after year, some of the best titles to ever be released is in a pretty bad way and I don't see a way back unless gamers themselves, start making better consumer choices and telling people like EA where to stick it with this nonsense.

RANT. OVER.
