So I am having a bit of a Minecraft revival in my gaming time due to some mods, and was wondering what games (including Minecraft) you have rediscovered because of a given mod?
I have started a solo Minecraft world using the Foolcraft 2 modpack and I am having a lot of fun. I haven't tapped even a fraction of what Foolcraft offers, but it is still such a fresh take on the old game.
Foolcraft adds huge Roguelike dungeons (*) to the game, a pseudo-color coded loot system in the form of loot bags, and a huge list of new gear, recipes and game play tweaks.
I like to create worlds using word-coded seeds so that I will always be able to go back and recreate a world if it gets deleted, and the first world I created was rather great.
I believe the seed is greatplacetostart. If you use that seed and turn on the starter chest you start on a hillside in a forest with a starter chest that contains a random non-craftable loot sword and the entrance to a rogue-like dungeon within eyesight. I have now played about 10 hours just clearing that dungeon.
The only down side for a solo player like me is that the game has a lot of content geared towards a team deathmatch style of play that are broken in the solo game. But that is really not a big deal for me.
Note: If you decide to play the FoolCraft mod do NOT use the one you find in Tekkit Launcher.... that one is insanely hard to the point of being broken. The mobs in the overland are all replaced by assassin mobs with firearms... unless you like spawning in over and over and dying in a hail of of gunfire immediately. The version that you will find in the Twitch Client list is more reasonable and playable, but the dungeons are still a challenge.
(*) Technically not a roguelike since it isn't infinite levels, but they are procedurally generated.
