So I am having a bit of a Minecraft revival in my gaming time due to some mods, and was wondering what games (including Minecraft) you have rediscovered because of a given mod?

I have started a solo Minecraft world using the Foolcraft 2 modpack and I am having a lot of fun. I haven't tapped even a fraction of what Foolcraft offers, but it is still such a fresh take on the old game.

Foolcraft adds huge Roguelike dungeons (*) to the game, a pseudo-color coded loot system in the form of loot bags, and a huge list of new gear, recipes and game play tweaks.

I like to create worlds using word-coded seeds so that I will always be able to go back and recreate a world if it gets deleted, and the first world I created was rather great.

I believe the seed is greatplacetostart. If you use that seed and turn on the starter chest you start on a hillside in a forest with a starter chest that contains a random non-craftable loot sword and the entrance to a rogue-like dungeon within eyesight. I have now played about 10 hours just clearing that dungeon.

The only down side for a solo player like me is that the game has a lot of content geared towards a team deathmatch style of play that are broken in the solo game. But that is really not a big deal for me.

Note: If you decide to play the FoolCraft mod do NOT use the one you find in Tekkit Launcher.... that one is insanely hard to the point of being broken. The mobs in the overland are all replaced by assassin mobs with firearms... unless you like spawning in over and over and dying in a hail of of gunfire immediately. The version that you will find in the Twitch Client list is more reasonable and playable, but the dungeons are still a challenge.

(*) Technically not a roguelike since it isn't infinite levels, but they are procedurally generated.

I've been playing modded Minecraft for about 5 years. I'll have short periods of time where I'll be into something else, but I always come back. I suspect Foolcraft is something along the lines of CrazyCraft. I've never been big into those kind of modpacks, the first Madpack being the exception (I loved that pack until it crashed and corrupted). I prefer more technology based packs. I finished Direwolf20's 1.10 pack a couple of months ago and am now working on the FTB Beyond pack. I've kind of hit my wall on that one too, so we'll see where I go from here. Also, if this thread turns into a modded Minecraft discussion, I am ALL for that.

Also, I'm pretty much to the point where I don't recommend anyone use any pack from the Tekkit launcher. I just don't think they've done a very good job keeping up their product. The Curse/Twitch app seems to be a much better launcher, despite the forced integration with Twitch.

As far as other games, I once got on a Skyrim kick because of mods. I don't even remember the mods I used, I believe most of them were just graphics/bug fixes, but I spent some time with Skyrim for a second go around because of mods. And then Mount and Blade Warband can have near infinite replay value with some of the mods which are available for it. And if Bannerlord doesn't incorporate some of those ideas the mods have provided (thinking in particular of the Diplomacy mod), I'll be very disappointed.

Those are just a couple off the top of my head.

Love the mods. Great way to breath life into an old game.

Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas both have hundreds of mods, from minor bug fixes to complete retreads of the game. I must have played both through 6 times each, and still feel like I've barely scratched the surface.

I believe the World of Pain mod by itself adds ~100 new locations to the game, complete with quests, re-balancing, and dozens of new monsters.

There's also a couple of bounty hunter mods with several quests each that add a lot of flavor to the region.

I think my current game is running some two dozen mods, and that is no record.

I have loved and played FTB for a long time. FoolCraft is more like FTB than it is a multiplayer mod. Foolcraft adds an ARPG loot system and dungeon crawl aspect that the other mod packs I have played don't. The only thing that is really broken is that there are team specific items that appear to be broken when there is only one team of one person.

Give the seed I mentioned a try, with that seed you get to jump right in to the best of the pack (as I see it, anyway) but the pack is filled with a lot of the tech craft mods as well.

I may give it a try. There are some mods in there I enjoy, though I'd miss Draconic Evolution. And, on second look, I don't see Refined Storage. Applied Energistics is fine, I guess, but I much prefer the simplicity of Refined Storage. But, still, I may give it a look. I've kind of run out of things on my FTB Beyond.

If you like loot and dungeon crawling, you should check out the YAWcraft modpack. It's 1.10 as well and it was made with the idea of adventuring in mind.

I'll definitely check it out.

I'll re-install Skyrim in the near future. I have saved up a lot of excellent mods (new hideouts, new items, new characters) and since the game never ends it would be wonderful to get back into it.

For Star Wars, KOTOR 2 (the Sith Lords) is still the best after you install the Restored Content mod. The story was the makers of the game had to rush it into the market because of Lucasarts and so they left out a lot of content. When it came out it was a mess, but this new mod turned it into the best Star Wars game ever- a dark, existential masterpiece. I still play it at least once a year.

If a skyrim mod doesnt have Khajiit orgies then I dont want any part of it

So I am having a bit of a Minecraft revival in my gaming time due to some mods, and was wondering what games (including Minecraft) you have rediscovered because of a given mod?

lol...I can't even play vanilla Minecraft anymore - to be honest, I never did, my first exposure to Minecraft was a result of constant nagging (I did not get the game at all, had no desire to play it, prior to trying it) was a big FTB modpack.

I'm currently playing the Sky Factory 3 mod pack, nearly done all achievements...kinda went a little Beautiful Minds on it, though...hehe... generating just over 7 billion rf/tick, when everything's on I'm consuming about 3 million rf/tick, and I just finished phase two of my wither farm which is now churning out 4 nether stars every 30 ticks, but will be doubled tonight (I need them to generate all that power...lol)... Oh, and a dimension I created in game that consists of nothing but giant diamond block orbs...lol....I've got close to 10 million diamonds in my inventory.

It's a great mod pack for a change, and focusses pretty much entirely on automating things. If you don't know what it is, you start in a void world (no blocks, if you fall you die) except for one tree and block of dirt. That's the entire world, and from that you make everything else.

But, there are also a lot of fun servers out there that do Minecraft "mini games". A lot of these are aimed at kids, but are still fun - for example, there's Pokémon servers where you play Pokémon in Minecraft. I checked it out for my 5 year old son, and got addicted...haha... They also have Grand Theft Auto servers for Minecraft, as well as tons of other game modes, most of which you don't even need to mod vanilla - if anything, they have resource packs that automatically load into the game.

I would have to say that Minecraft, given how extensively it can be modded to provide endless different ways to play it, has got to be the best money I ever spent on a game. I think it would be great to have a DP server...if anyone else was interested, I'd help for sure! :)

One of my odd (maybe less odd as time goes on) obsessions is in watching people play games. Two of my favorite people to watch are guys VintageBeef and PauseUnpause. They played Sky Factory last year (?) with their friend Ethoslab, and it was very fun. They didn't carry it as far as you, they played until VintageBeef completed his Minicio project ("MINICIOMINICIOMINICIO!!!" - VintageBeef) and built the end-game armor, at which point the challenge of the game was pretty much over other than the grinding.

The other guy I used to watch a lot was BDoubleo100. He had several vanilla and modded minecraft projects running, but he recently bailed on Youtube following adpocalypse and the absurd AI driven demonetization engine they released that seems geared to one job: cutting revenue to content creators. He so completely broke from Youtube that he also abandoned Minecraft and adopted the Twitch Personna "Beau Truck" and bow plays Battle Royale games exclusively (PUBG and Fortnite) ... a fair trade though because his Beau Truck personna is hilarious.

Nice - sounds like they were playing Sky Factory 2.0 or 2.5. 3.0 changes a LOT...some stuff easier, some stuff harder. The magic crops mod does come into play, I have a crap ton going - my resources come primarily from those, void miners / void material miners, and, believe it or not, chickens. There's a chickens mod that allows you breed chickens that "lay" resources...lol... It's ridiculous, but it was fun to do all the required cross breeding to get the good resources, and it's pretty much set it and forget it, it just keeps piping in material to my storage system. I've thought about building a quarry and a dimension to put it in, but it's kind of like why at this point...I have well over a million of every major mineable resource in the game already. It might be fun to build the infrastructure, I guess, but totally unnecessary.

Honestly, I could probably finish the achievements in about a week or so, and start something else, but this has been the craziest build I've ever done and while I'm starting to itch a bit to start from scratch, I don't want to let it go just yet...lol... Once you click that 100% Done achievement, it's over. :)

If you ever want to run through the mod pack with someone, let me know. Servers are so cheap now, wouldn't be much to get one - I've been doing this all in single player, but I've had servers before, and I've been thinking about getting one again, just haven't really reached out to anyone to see if they want to play. PM me if you're interested. :)

PS: I watch the crap out of YouTube ... for a lot of the more complicated mods you need to. I always try to improve upon the design, though, so... DireWolf20 has good instructional vids, if you can handle his voice, and there are a few others out there that do a really good job of explaining what these things do.

I used to play Direwolf20's FTB a lot back during a magic time when the DW20 FTB and Sphax PureBDCraft resource pack updates were in sync. I dreamed for the day I won the lottery and could just pay those two to sit in a room together and release in-unison. :)

I have tried doing the coop server thing before and it always ended up being my schedule was so screwy in my down time that I never could sync up with anyone. I mostly stopped playing Minecraft for a while because I only ever had 45 minutes at a stretch to dedicate to any game. With this adventure pack it was fun for a while because I had that huger starting dungeon that I took on as a project where clearing a wing was a 30-40 minute project.

The only problem with a DP server would be having a place where everyone could have a decent ping.

I could never get into the Chicken mods, but Mystical Agriculture is OP as hell, especially with the Growth Accelators from Tiny Progressions.

And, just to be clear, I'm not saying that's a bad thing.

I love watching DW20's vids. I'll go through periods where I'll watch a crap ton of them and then not for a while. I saw on Twitch the other night Soaryn is apparently testing the Direwolf20 1.12 modpack. So I'd guess that'll be released soon.

How much are servers now? I haven't priced one in a while. If I ever want to play on a server, I just host my own usually. But that's usually just for me.

I'll start with the last part first...hehe... You can get a pretty decent server for around $25USD/month, depending on what mod pack you go with. Sky Factory is very low resource at the start, because it's a void world, but all the automation makes thing laggy AF when you get to mid to end game... I've gotten used to playing at 10fps...lol... But, I'm running everything off my computer, which is desperately in need of some upgrading, so a 4gb server might be able to handle it no problem...but I would always go with processor upgrades if available. So, ya, around $25USD/month - though you can spend more, for sure.

I like DW20, but I find him a bit ... I dunno, awkward maybe, when he's playing with others...he can be a bit of a bossy diva, which turns me off... There's a couple other less known guys that do a good job of going through the mods from a technical standpoint...it sucks they don't get more views, because their info is on point, but that only takes you so far. I'll look up their names if you're interested. And I also do watch Ssundee... Yes, I'm way older than his target market, but the guy makes me laugh my ass off, and he has some chops - I still haven't figured out how to replicate his ender dragon farm (I just created a dimension that spawns endless ender dragons, which I needed to do in order to complete one of the achievements, as well as create the top tier Draconic Evolution battery...I had to kill around 100 of them to get the required materials.)

I've had servers in the past with players from all over the states and Canada, I usually shoot for something in the middle and keep my fingers crossed. It usually worked for everyone. But, overseas players would probably have a hard time.

Chicken mod is gross to start with, but like everything else it gets easier as you progress, as you can automate. I now have 8 fully leveled up chickens of every type, and it would blow your mind how much resources they produce. And it was required for an achievement, so... I have found in Sky Factory that I take the achievements to a stupid level...one of the hardest ones was to produce 1 billion rf/tick. I'm producing 7...lol...all off of just 4 nether star generators. I have problems... :) I also have over a million pieces of chicken **** from the Chickens mod...yup, problems... lol

Mystical Agriculture is definitely OP...but I feel like they make you work for it, so I'm not bothered, and again, the start up is tough, but gets easier as time goes by, especially when you automate crafting (for those damn growth accelerators...I use the ones that are part of Mystic Agriculture). And OP is good in this mudpack, because who wants to mine? I hate mining...which is why I love automation mod packs...hehe... Automating killing mobs with Soul Blades to get mob chunks made things a lot easier too, but tough to figure out - mainly because I wanted to use the same spawn system for Blood Magic as well...lol...

I'll try to post some screenshots from my Sky Factory 3 project...one of these days, just to show off to buddies, I'm going to do a video tour of the thing and put it on YouTube, but I need to double my RAM first...hehe...

For those interested, here is the first part of the "Team Canada" play of Sky Factory 2.5:

I am still looking for the mod I really want to dive in to but they all seem to be missing bits. I think I will dive in to making a mod pack myself, but the closest to what I want is Horizons 3 played on the Lost Cities version of Biomes o' Pleanty. I would like that with whatever modpack it is that adds weapon boxes and unique weapons AND the mod that adds random rogue like dungeons to the world like in Fool Craft.

Thanks in advance to anyone who makes that!

Also wouldn't mind the genetics mod used in the Invasion modpack while you are at it....

See, I think we have different opinions on what is "so cheap".

I see $25 a month and think $300 a year. $300 a year is a lot of money to spend on a game in my opinion.

I like DW20, but I find him a bit ... I dunno, awkward maybe, when he's playing with others...he can be a bit of a bossy diva, which turns me off
I think he's just really anal about doing things the "right" way and that's why he's bossy. I totally understand that, I play Minecraft in a similar fashion. Disorganization and haphazard approach to the game is not enjoyable to me.

... There's a couple other less known guys that do a good job of going through the mods from a technical standpoint...it sucks they don't get more views, because their info is on point, but that only takes you so far. I still watch the YouAlwaysWin team on YouTube, though I've watched less of late as I've been watching a lot of Shroud on Twitch. They are silly and target their content towards a younger audience, but I still enjoy it.

- I still haven't figured out how to replicate his ender dragon farm
Hmm...

I tried an ender dragon farm once on Skyblock with RFTools spawning and a Draconic Evolution mob grinder, but since the ender dragon can clip through structures, it never did work.
(I just created a dimension that spawns endless ender dragons, which I needed to do in order to complete one of the achievements, as well as create the top tier Draconic Evolution battery...I had to kill around 100 of them to get the required materials.)
RFTools dimensions, I suppose? I had to do that to progress to some of the top of the line Draconic Evolution items as well. I don't remember if I have ever created a battery and I know I've never tried to build the reactor. Maybe something to look into when I picked up Minecraft again.

That just HAS to be hard on your CPU with all of that going on.

And I just have never been interested. It is kind of like the bees mods (Forestry, etc.). Just never cared enough to do it.

I don't feel like Mystical Agriculture is that much work, certainly not in Skyblock with Tiny Progressions growth accelerators and/or the Greenhouse Glass from Actually Additions.

And OP is good in this mudpack, because who wants to mine? I hate mining...which is why I love automation mod packs...hehe... Blood Magic is a mod I've always wanted to get into, but have never really seen the value in it. The same with Botania. In Botania, I do just enough to get enough leaves to act as dyes and that's about it.

I did that once already...not sure where I put that....

It's been forever since I worked on it though. I actually haven't played Minecraft in a couple of months, been into Team Fortress lately.

See, I think we have different opinions on what is "so cheap".

I see $25 a month and think $300 a year. $300 a year is a lot of money to spend on a game in my opinion.

Well, at that point you'd hope to be getting a pitch in from some of the users...hehe... At that level you should at least be able to have 10 people playing...that's $30 a year, not too shabby. :)

I think he's just really anal about doing things the "right" way and that's why he's bossy. I totally understand that, I play Minecraft in a similar fashion. Disorganization and haphazard approach to the game is not enjoyable to me.

I still watch the YouAlwaysWin team on YouTube, though I've watched less of late as I've been watching a lot of Shroud on Twitch. They are silly and target their content towards a younger audience, but I still enjoy it.

Ya...I guess... You can be precise and not be a bitch, though - honestly, watching the vids a couple of times I was amazed that the other guy didn't flip him the bird and sign off. As far as I can tell, there's been nothing built bigger in Minecraft than DW's ego... ;) But, he does some good how to's, so I watch him...if no one else has done it in a watchable format...hehe :)

Hmm...

I tried an ender dragon farm once on Skyblock with RFTools spawning and a Draconic Evolution mob grinder, but since the ender dragon can clip through structures, it never did work.

The Ssundee vid uses unbreakable shurikens from Tinkers Construct aimed at the Ender Dragon's landing point, combined with Mob Grinder mod fans that keeps the dragon pushed slightly away from the landing point. It's a bit of a glitch, but when the Ender Dragon wants to land, but can't, it will keep trying, essentially making it stay in one spot. Then the shurikens get fired out of an Auto-User and kill it. That part is relatively easy to figure out, it's just the red stone stuff he does to harvest the dragon egg with the lever / piston, and then place the end crystals to respawn the dragon that is a little hard to figure out. It's quicker to just kill them yourself with Draconic gear on a Ender Dragon dimension, but this one you can set it and forget it, and get a lot of goodies without doing anything, if you're willing to wait.

RFTools dimensions, I suppose? I had to do that to progress to some of the top of the line Draconic Evolution items as well. I don't remember if I have ever created a battery and I know I've never tried to build the reactor. Maybe something to look into when I picked up Minecraft again.

Yup, RFTools dimensions. Getting the dragon blood was easy...finding the rarity level 6 thingy was a bitch! It did, however, inspire me to build my ender farm, which consists of 10 or 15 (I forget) ender I/O powered spawners and takes around 300krf/tick to run...lol... Harvest the dimlets, and eventually I got it... Plus, I have over 3 million ender pearls now because of that farm, so.... haha...

That just HAS to be hard on your CPU with all of that going on.

And I just have never been interested. It is kind of like the bees mods (Forestry, etc.). Just never cared enough to do it.

Ya, I'm not in love with it, I did it because it was an achievement. It's not bad on he CPU, actually, since they are all in pens and don't move around. And they churn out a fairly good number of resources. And they're hilarious... haha... It was a drag at first, but it kind of got more fun as time went on... There are way better ways to get resources, though...for most stuff, some of the end game Botania drops are nice, if a little OP / broken, given that you can skip the entire Botania tech tree if you breed right.

...more to follow, I'm long winded....lol...

I don't feel like Mystical Agriculture is that much work, certainly not in Skyblock with Tiny Progressions growth accelerators and/or the Greenhouse Glass from Actually Additions.

Again, not sure how the Tiny Progressions growth accelerators work, I just did it with Mystical Agriculture, and it felt like a mofo. Each growth accelerator is one diamond + 8 base tier essence blocks, so a 72 base tier essence to make a single growth accelerator. I have a main farm that consists of 25 Ender I/O farming stations with no capacitor (so, 7 x 7 patches), and 20 satellite farms with Ender I/O farming stations with top tier capacitors (so, 15 x 15 patches). The satellites are 15 levels of growth accelerators, and the main farm is about 25 layers now. So, that's 98,125 diamonds and 7,065,000 base tier essence. And I did the majority of this before I figured out how auto crafting with the ME system worked.... lol... So, it felt like work to me! Looks pretty awesome though....and is likely a big part of my cpu problems...hehe... Though I think it has more to do with my max size reactor from Extreme reactors... It pushes out 1.5 million rf/tick, but there's a lot of lag when I go near it. Again, given my nether star generators and phantom face config is turning out just under 6.9 billion rf/tick on it's own, I don't need it, but it was an achievement... :)

Blood Magic is a mod I've always wanted to get into, but have never really seen the value in it. The same with Botania. In Botania, I do just enough to get enough leaves to act as dyes and that's about it.

They're both fun, and can be looked at very much as tech mods, despite being "magic". The only reason I haven't gotten deeper into Botania is that you need a lot of advanced red stone, and I just haven't spent as much time with that as I'd like. Blood magic is awesome, but the problem with both of these is that they'd be better off on their own, vs. in a mod pack that has a lot of different ways to do the same thing, but easier.

I did that once already...not sure where I put that....

It's been forever since I worked on it though. I actually haven't played Minecraft in a couple of months, been into Team Fortress lately.

Right on. :) It's the kind of thing you need to put down every so often. I'm looking at doing a YouTube project, which is why I'm this hard into it right now, but I'm thinking a break over Christmas might be nice... The PS4 is collecting dust, might be time to take a breather and do some mindless gaming.

That part is relatively easy to figure out, it's just the red stone stuff he does to harvest the dragon egg with the lever / piston, and then place the end crystals to respawn the dragon that is a little hard to figure out.
I haven't seen the video, but it sounds like that part should be fairly easy to automate.

Use the mechanical user from Actually Additions (I think it is) to break and place blocks (I think there may also be a block breaker and block placer in the pack too, can't check at the moment) to make the egg harvestable. Use the Ranged Collector from Actually Additions or the Absorption Hopper (my preference) from Mob Grinding Utilities to collect the egg. Use the mechanical user to place end crystals. Pipe end crystals to the mechanical user through the use of an ender chest, with EnderIO pipes set to round robin to destinations.

You can use the Timer from RFTools to time the necessary redstone pulses to make the whole system work.

Yup, RFTools dimensions. Getting the dragon blood was easy...finding the rarity level 6 thingy was a bitch!
It takes forever to find a rarity level 6. It's ridiculous.

It did, however, inspire me to build my ender farm, which consists of 10 or 15 (I forget) ender I/O powered spawners and takes around 300krf/tick to run...lol... Harvest the dimlets, and eventually I got it... Plus, I have over 3 million ender pearls now because of that farm, so.... haha...
You may consider erecting a building in the End and using a Drop of Evil in the building (I think you need dirt). Immediate Enderman spawns and you can use any mob killing blocks to get what you need (I prefer Mob Grinder from Draconic) and then use a ranged collector or Absorption Hopper to collect the items and experience.

Much easier on the RF/t and the CPU. :)

...more to follow, I'm long winded....lol...
Yeah, I had barely got in under character count in my last post. :)
Again, not sure how the Tiny Progressions growth accelerators work
Ridiculously well. :)

I think they nerfed them eventually, but still, they were bad.

I just did it with Mystical Agriculture, and it felt like a mofo.
Try it with Greenhouse Glass next time over the top of the crops. Pays for itself.

And I did the majority of this before I figured out how auto crafting with the ME system worked.
I prefer Refined Storage myself. Just simpler to use in my opinion.

Also, the autocrafters in RFTools works really well for changing Essence into an item. You can do it automatically without the essence ever even entering your storage system.

... lol... So, it felt like work to me! Looks pretty awesome though....and is likely a big part of my cpu problems...hehe... Though I think it has more to do with my max size reactor from Extreme reactors
Oh, it's absolutely your max sized Extreme Reactor. No question. I have i7-6770k CPU, 32 GB of RAM and a GTX 1080 graphics card and the max reactor still lags my system.

... It pushes out 1.5 million rf/tick, but there's a lot of lag when I go near it. Again, given my nether star generators and phantom face config is turning out just under 6.9 billion rf/tick on it's own, I don't need it, but it was an achievement... :)
I love the solar panels from Environmental Tech. I think they are such a great way to churn out RF. They obviously don't get into the high millions or billions, but it's pretty good for most of the game.

I don't remember what my max reactor got in RF, it's been a while. I just remember I never made enough Yellorium crops to keep it filled. And RFTools doesn't have a Yellorium block in its dimensions (which really really sucks).

They're both fun, and can be looked at very much as tech mods, despite being "magic". I guess that's probably the problem I've had getting into them. I've never seen them as the easiest way to achieve anything and any items they provide are provided equally or better in other mods.

Right on. :) It's the kind of thing you need to put down every so often. After a while, you just find yourself doing the same things in different worlds. Taking some time off allows for mods to change a little, more mods to be created, etc.

I like the solution, but there are a couple parts that might need some testing. Will a block breaker actually pick up the dragon's egg? Or will it just move it over a space? I'll have to try. What I need is a way to tell when the egg has been harvested, as that would be the catalyst to tell the system to reset and begin again, since the dragon might take different amounts of time to kill, depending on when it returns to it's spawn point to rest. I'd also need some kind of comparison tool to see when the dragon egg is present, to know when to trigger the harvest and reset the sequence. I know these things all exist, I just haven't done a lot with them, so it's hard to know exactly what needs to be set up and how.

haha...well, RF/t isn't a problem, and I kind of like that I'm using a ton of it, it justifies (slightly) the over engineering of the power generators that I've made...hehe... I use the Drop of Evil in my other mob farms, though - I have a big generic one for just getting drops and loot bags, and another I use in my Blood Magic section for generating crystals. You definitely don't want to let one of those get away on you!! haha ...

Ridiculously. :)

I'll have to check it out! (In the next world, farms are basically done now...of course...haha)

Sorry, that's what I mean, I still call it an ME, but yes, it's refined storage, and it's a lot simpler...the last Applied Energistics was goofy - couldn't figure out the meteor story line, no point, just let me store stuff. My RS system is heavily augmented with quantum storage containers, though - didn't want to make a crap ton of 64k drives, the containers keep things nice and tight and defragged. Takes more power I think, but again, power is not a problem for me.

Oh, it's absolutely your max sized Extreme Reactor. No question. I have i7-6770k CPU and a GTX 1080 graphics card and the max reactor lags my system.

Ya...I'd get rid of it, but I plan to do a video walk through on the project, so...

Yes, that got me through right up to just before end game. I've made the entire tech tree of them, except for the ones that require chaos shards... I hate fighting those damn chaos dragons!! They might be more fun with a couple more people, but single player vs. chaos dragon sucks!!!! The one I killed was probably a 15 minute fight, at the minimum.

After a while, you just find yourself doing the same things in different worlds. Taking some time off allows for mods to change a little, more mods to be created, etc.

Yup! I've never done a survival style game like Sky Factory before, it was a pretty awesome twist on the original. There's one where you're stranded on a desert planet that I'd like to try some time...but I'll wait until they update it, as going back to older versions isn't fun.

This is actually a perfect time to get a few Yellorium Chickens from the chicken mod. You can place their pen right above where you put the Yellorium into the big reactor with a couple of insert pipes going into it from the chicken pen. Get a few chicken pens going with Yellorium chickens in them and you'll never have to worry about running out of Yellorium again.

I like the solution, but there are a couple parts that might need some testing. Will a block breaker actually pick up the dragon's egg?
Not sure, but it will definitely break the block under the egg, which makes the egg harvestable. Then you can use the Absorption Hopper or the Ranged Collector to get the egg.
What I need is a way to tell when the egg has been harvested, as that would be the catalyst to tell the system to reset and begin again, since the dragon might take different amounts of time to kill, depending on when it returns to it's spawn point to rest.
Just set a RFTools timer when a redstone pulse to a fixed amount of time at the end of which you know the dragon will be dead.

For example, make a Timer and four mechanical users. Change the mechanical users to place an item on a block on redstone pulse. Change the setting on the timer to pulse every 5 minutes. Auto placement of end crystals. Same concept as DW20 does in his Skyblock with Pahimar when he's automating withers.

In other words, rather than sending a pulse when the dragon is dead, just send the pulse at fixed time points when you know the dragon will be dead. If you even need the dragon to be dead to spawn another (not sure, never tried it).

I'd also need some kind of comparison tool to see when the dragon egg is present, to know when to trigger the harvest and reset the sequence. I know these things all exist, I just haven't done a lot with them, so it's hard to know exactly what needs to be set up and how.
Nah, you don't need that. That's what the Absorption Hopper and the Ranged Collector do. Basically any item which is collectable in their area will be picked up and can be piped wherever it needs to go. And once you break the block under the egg, the egg will become ready to be collected.

You can even use a whitelist to only collect the egg and nothing else.

I'll have to check it out! (In the next world, farms are basically done now...of course...haha)
It's worth it. Actually Additions is actually a pretty useful mod. Not sure how much you've used it.

Gotcha.

And yeah, I think AE became needlessly complicated. I just want to store items, I don't want to explore for ten years to find all that I need. If you could find one and then make others from the original, that wouldn't be so bad. But Refined Storage is just much simpler.

My RS system is heavily augmented with quantum storage containers, though - didn't want to make a crap ton of 64k drives, the containers keep things nice and tight and defragged. Takes more power I think, but again, power is not a problem for me.
Never used quantum storage containers, I don't believe. What I did in my world is make use of Storage Drawers. Compacting Drawers with several upgrades is quite useful and that way you can get a diamond block, diamond or diamond shards on demand, without having to convert yourself.

Yes, that got me through right up to just before end game. I've made the entire tech tree of them, except for the ones that require chaos shards... I hate fighting those damn chaos dragons!! Every time I tried to fight a Chaos dragon, the game would glitch and the dragon would fly off, never to be seen again. So I've never successfully killed one.

Ahh, that's actually a really good point. It'd be a lot of work to just get yellorium, especially with Mystical Agriculture already pumping out Yellorium, but keeping a max reactor full was not possible for me without many more farms. The chicken mod might be a better way to handle that.

I've got a crap ton of Yellorium chickens, as well as a full ender I/0 farming station (15 x 15) with 15 layers of growth accelerators on every block producing yellorium from mystical agriculture for me. I put it all in the storage, and then use ender chests to move it to my reactors. The max size reactor goes through a lot of it, so I found I needed to expand production a couple times. Of course, now that I am using nether stars for power, I don't need any of it, and it's starting to pile up - over a million now....lol...

Cool to see you're a minecraft nerd, too, Kal. We don't seem to get along re: politics, but maybe you'd be interested in some minecraft? As people join the chat, thinking it might be fun to get a DP server going...? First rule: no politics.... hehe ;) lolz

I could be over complicating it, but it seems to me that unless you set the timer for way longer than it needs to be, you could end up missing the timing, since the dragon doesn't always come down to rest at the same time every time. I know there is a comparator in one of the mods that will tell you when a block has changed, I think that's what I want to use, as it will tell you when the dragon egg arrives, which then can reset the farm, more efficiently than setting a timer that pulses long enough between to allow for the dragon to take it's sweet ass time to drop...haha... :) This conversation has inspired me to do some testing, though...hehe....

I agree with everything else you have here, though...I use absorption hoppers a lot, they're a favorite, because they grab experience too...so of course they are on all my mob farms, as well as an auto breaker I have breaking ores that SAG Mills won't process.

I think it's just going to be a matter of playing with it. I think I can do better than one ender dragon every 5 minutes... :)

It's worth it. Actually Additions is actually a pretty useful mod. Not sure how much you've used it.

A fair bit...I keep the wrench on me most of the time...hehe...

Crucial... Holds 2 billion of one thing, set it (with external storage busses) and forget it.

Every time I tried to fight a Chaos dragon, the game would glitch and the dragon would fly off, never to be seen again. So I've never successfully killed one.

Ya, they are miserable bastards. Attempted 3, killed 1. Need to kill 3 more for the achievement.

Skyfactory was my first void world challenge as well. The desert planet one, is that Forever Stranded?

Yes, I think so... It's got the abandoned cities you can loot...looks fun, but harder...you have to worry about temperature and water consumption. I think it's harder than Sky Factory.
