They didn't carry it as far as you, they played until VintageBeef completed his Minicio project ("MINICIOMINICIOMINICIO!!!" - VintageBeef) and built the end-game armor, at which point the challenge of the game was pretty much over other than the grinding.

The other guy I used to watch a lot was BDoubleo100. He had several vanilla and modded minecraft projects running, but he recently bailed on Youtube following adpocalypse and the absurd AI driven demonetization engine they released that seems geared to one job: cutting revenue to content creators. He so completely broke from Youtube that he also abandoned Minecraft and adopted the Twitch Personna "Beau Truck" and bow plays Battle Royale games exclusively (PUBG and Fortnite) ... a fair trade though because his Beau Truck personna is hilarious.
Nice - sounds like they were playing Sky Factory 2.0 or 2.5. 3.0 changes a LOT...some stuff easier, some stuff harder. The magic crops mod does come into play, I have a crap ton going - my resources come primarily from those, void miners / void material miners, and, believe it or not, chickens. There's a chickens mod that allows you breed chickens that "lay" resources...lol... It's ridiculous, but it was fun to do all the required cross breeding to get the good resources, and it's pretty much set it and forget it, it just keeps piping in material to my storage system. I've thought about building a quarry and a dimension to put it in, but it's kind of like why at this point...I have well over a million of every major mineable resource in the game already. It might be fun to build the infrastructure, I guess, but totally unnecessary.

Honestly, I could probably finish the achievements in about a week or so, and start something else, but this has been the craziest build I've ever done and while I'm starting to itch a bit to start from scratch, I don't want to let it go just yet...lol... Once you click that 100% Done achievement, it's over.

If you ever want to run through the mod pack with someone, let me know. Servers are so cheap now, wouldn't be much to get one - I've been doing this all in single player, but I've had servers before, and I've been thinking about getting one again, just haven't really reached out to anyone to see if they want to play. PM me if you're interested.

PS: I watch the crap out of YouTube ... for a lot of the more complicated mods you need to. I always try to improve upon the design, though, so... DireWolf20 has good instructional vids, if you can handle his voice, and there are a few others out there that do a really good job of explaining what these things do.

I used to play Direwolf20's FTB a lot back during a magic time when the DW20 FTB and Sphax PureBDCraft resource pack updates were in sync. I dreamed for the day I won the lottery and could just pay those two to sit in a room together and release in-unison.

I have tried doing the coop server thing before and it always ended up being my schedule was so screwy in my down time that I never could sync up with anyone. I mostly stopped playing Minecraft for a while because I only ever had 45 minutes at a stretch to dedicate to any game. With this adventure pack it was fun for a while because I had that huger starting dungeon that I took on as a project where clearing a wing was a 30-40 minute project.

The only problem with a DP server would be having a place where everyone could have a decent ping.

I could never get into the Chicken mods, but Mystical Agriculture is OP as hell, especially with the Growth Accelators from Tiny Progressions.

And, just to be clear, I'm not saying that's a bad thing.

I love watching DW20's vids. I'll go through periods where I'll watch a crap ton of them and then not for a while. I saw on Twitch the other night Soaryn is apparently testing the Direwolf20 1.12 modpack. So I'd guess that'll be released soon.

How much are servers now? I haven't priced one in a while. If I ever want to play on a server, I just host my own usually. But that's usually just for me.

I'll start with the last part first...hehe... You can get a pretty decent server for around $25USD/month, depending on what mod pack you go with. Sky Factory is very low resource at the start, because it's a void world, but all the automation makes thing laggy AF when you get to mid to end game... I've gotten used to playing at 10fps...lol... But, I'm running everything off my computer, which is desperately in need of some upgrading, so a 4gb server might be able to handle it no problem...but I would always go with processor upgrades if available. So, ya, around $25USD/month - though you can spend more, for sure.

I like DW20, but I find him a bit ... I dunno, awkward maybe, when he's playing with others...he can be a bit of a bossy diva, which turns me off... There's a couple other less known guys that do a good job of going through the mods from a technical standpoint...it sucks they don't get more views, because their info is on point, but that only takes you so far. I'll look up their names if you're interested. And I also do watch Ssundee... Yes, I'm way older than his target market, but the guy makes me laugh my ass off, and he has some chops - I still haven't figured out how to replicate his ender dragon farm (I just created a dimension that spawns endless ender dragons, which I needed to do in order to complete one of the achievements, as well as create the top tier Draconic Evolution battery...I had to kill around 100 of them to get the required materials.)

I've had servers in the past with players from all over the states and Canada, I usually shoot for something in the middle and keep my fingers crossed. It usually worked for everyone. But, overseas players would probably have a hard time.

Chicken mod is gross to start with, but like everything else it gets easier as you progress, as you can automate. I now have 8 fully leveled up chickens of every type, and it would blow your mind how much resources they produce. And it was required for an achievement, so... I have found in Sky Factory that I take the achievements to a stupid level...one of the hardest ones was to produce 1 billion rf/tick. I'm producing 7...lol...all off of just 4 nether star generators. I have problems... I also have over a million pieces of chicken **** from the Chickens mod...yup, problems... lol

Mystical Agriculture is definitely OP...but I feel like they make you work for it, so I'm not bothered, and again, the start up is tough, but gets easier as time goes by, especially when you automate crafting (for those damn growth accelerators...I use the ones that are part of Mystic Agriculture). And OP is good in this mudpack, because who wants to mine? I hate mining...which is why I love automation mod packs...hehe... Automating killing mobs with Soul Blades to get mob chunks made things a lot easier too, but tough to figure out - mainly because I wanted to use the same spawn system for Blood Magic as well...lol...

I'll try to post some screenshots from my Sky Factory 3 project...one of these days, just to show off to buddies, I'm going to do a video tour of the thing and put it on YouTube, but I need to double my RAM first...hehe...

For those interested, here is the first part of the "Team Canada" play of Sky Factory 2.5:

    Re: Rediscovering games through mods

I am still looking for the mod I really want to dive in to but they all seem to be missing bits. I think I will dive in to making a mod pack myself, but the closest to what I want is Horizons 3 played on the Lost Cities version of Biomes o' Pleanty. I would like that with whatever modpack it is that adds weapon boxes and unique weapons AND the mod that adds random rogue like dungeons to the world like in Fool Craft.

Thanks in advance to anyone who makes that!

Also wouldn't mind the genetics mod used in the Invasion modpack while you are at it....

See, I think we have different opinions on what is "so cheap".

I see $25 a month and think $300 a year. $300 a year is a lot of money to spend on a game in my opinion.

I like DW20, but I find him a bit ... I dunno, awkward maybe, when he's playing with others...he can be a bit of a bossy diva, which turns me off
I think he's just really anal about doing things the "right" way and that's why he's bossy. I totally understand that, I play Minecraft in a similar fashion. Disorganization and haphazard approach to the game is not enjoyable to me.

I still watch the YouAlwaysWin team on YouTube, though I've watched less of late as I've been watching a lot of Shroud on Twitch. They are silly and target their content towards a younger audience, but I still enjoy it.

    - I still haven't figured out how to replicate his ender dragon farm
    Hmm...

I tried an ender dragon farm once on Skyblock with RFTools spawning and a Draconic Evolution mob grinder, but since the ender dragon can clip through structures, it never did work.
(I just created a dimension that spawns endless ender dragons, which I needed to do in order to complete one of the achievements, as well as create the top tier Draconic Evolution battery...I had to kill around 100 of them to get the required materials.)
RFTools dimensions, I suppose? I had to do that to progress to some of the top of the line Draconic Evolution items as well. I don't remember if I have ever created a battery and I know I've never tried to build the reactor. Maybe something to look into when I picked up Minecraft again.

Chicken mod is gross to start with, but like everything else it gets easier as you progress, as you can automate. That just HAS to be hard on your CPU with all of that going on.

And I just have never been interested. It is kind of like the bees mods (Forestry, etc.). Just never cared enough to do it.

Mystical Agriculture is definitely OP...but I feel like they make you work for it, so I'm not bothered, and again, the start up is tough, but gets easier as time goes by, especially when you automate crafting (for those damn growth accelerators...I use the ones that are part of Mystic Agriculture).
I don't feel like Mystical Agriculture is that much work, certainly not in Skyblock with Tiny Progressions growth accelerators and/or the Greenhouse Glass from Actually Additions.

Blood Magic is a mod I've always wanted to get into, but have never really seen the value in it. The same with Botania. In Botania, I do just enough to get enough leaves to act as dyes and that's about it.

I'll try to post some screenshots from my Sky Factory 3 project...one of these days, just to show off to buddies, I'm going to do a video tour of the thing and put it on YouTube, but I need to double my RAM first...hehe...
I did that once already...not sure where I put that....

It's been forever since I worked on it though. I actually haven't played Minecraft in a couple of months, been into Team Fortress lately.

Well, at that point you'd hope to be getting a pitch in from some of the users...hehe... At that level you should at least be able to have 10 people playing...that's $30 a year, not too shabby.

Ya...I guess... You can be precise and not be a bitch, though - honestly, watching the vids a couple of times I was amazed that the other guy didn't flip him the bird and sign off. As far as I can tell, there's been nothing built bigger in Minecraft than DW's ego... But, he does some good how to's, so I watch him...if no one else has done it in a watchable format...hehe

The Ssundee vid uses unbreakable shurikens from Tinkers Construct aimed at the Ender Dragon's landing point, combined with Mob Grinder mod fans that keeps the dragon pushed slightly away from the landing point. It's a bit of a glitch, but when the Ender Dragon wants to land, but can't, it will keep trying, essentially making it stay in one spot. Then the shurikens get fired out of an Auto-User and kill it. That part is relatively easy to figure out, it's just the red stone stuff he does to harvest the dragon egg with the lever / piston, and then place the end crystals to respawn the dragon that is a little hard to figure out. It's quicker to just kill them yourself with Draconic gear on a Ender Dragon dimension, but this one you can set it and forget it, and get a lot of goodies without doing anything, if you're willing to wait.

Yup, RFTools dimensions. Getting the dragon blood was easy...finding the rarity level 6 thingy was a bitch! It did, however, inspire me to build my ender farm, which consists of 10 or 15 (I forget) ender I/O powered spawners and takes around 300krf/tick to run...lol... Harvest the dimlets, and eventually I got it... Plus, I have over 3 million ender pearls now because of that farm, so.... haha...

Ya, I'm not in love with it, I did it because it was an achievement. It's not bad on he CPU, actually, since they are all in pens and don't move around. And they churn out a fairly good number of resources. And they're hilarious... haha... It was a drag at first, but it kind of got more fun as time went on... There are way better ways to get resources, though...for most stuff, some of the end game Botania drops are nice, if a little OP / broken, given that you can skip the entire Botania tech tree if you breed right.

...more to follow, I'm long winded....lol...

Again, not sure how the Tiny Progressions growth accelerators work, I just did it with Mystical Agriculture, and it felt like a mofo. Each growth accelerator is one diamond + 8 base tier essence blocks, so a 72 base tier essence to make a single growth accelerator. I have a main farm that consists of 25 Ender I/O farming stations with no capacitor (so, 7 x 7 patches), and 20 satellite farms with Ender I/O farming stations with top tier capacitors (so, 15 x 15 patches). The satellites are 15 levels of growth accelerators, and the main farm is about 25 layers now. So, that's 98,125 diamonds and 7,065,000 base tier essence. And I did the majority of this before I figured out how auto crafting with the ME system worked.... lol... So, it felt like work to me! Looks pretty awesome though....and is likely a big part of my cpu problems...hehe... Though I think it has more to do with my max size reactor from Extreme reactors... It pushes out 1.5 million rf/tick, but there's a lot of lag when I go near it. Again, given my nether star generators and phantom face config is turning out just under 6.9 billion rf/tick on it's own, I don't need it, but it was an achievement...

They're both fun, and can be looked at very much as tech mods, despite being "magic". The only reason I haven't gotten deeper into Botania is that you need a lot of advanced red stone, and I just haven't spent as much time with that as I'd like. Blood magic is awesome, but the problem with both of these is that they'd be better off on their own, vs. in a mod pack that has a lot of different ways to do the same thing, but easier.

Right on. It's the kind of thing you need to put down every so often. I'm looking at doing a YouTube project, which is why I'm this hard into it right now, but I'm thinking a break over Christmas might be nice... The PS4 is collecting dust, might be time to take a breather and do some mindless gaming.

I haven't seen the video, but it sounds like that part should be fairly easy to automate.

Use the mechanical user from Actually Additions (I think it is) to break and place blocks (I think there may also be a block breaker and block placer in the pack too, can't check at the moment) to make the egg harvestable. Use the Ranged Collector from Actually Additions or the Absorption Hopper (my preference) from Mob Grinding Utilities to collect the egg. Use the mechanical user to place end crystals. Pipe end crystals to the mechanical user through the use of an ender chest, with EnderIO pipes set to round robin to destinations.

You can use the Timer from RFTools to time the necessary redstone pulses to make the whole system work.

Yup, RFTools dimensions. Getting the dragon blood was easy...finding the rarity level 6 thingy was a bitch!
It takes forever to find a rarity level 6. It's ridiculous.

You may consider erecting a building in the End and using a Drop of Evil in the building (I think you need dirt). Immediate Enderman spawns and you can use any mob killing blocks to get what you need (I prefer Mob Grinder from Draconic) and then use a ranged collector or Absorption Hopper to collect the items and experience.

Much easier on the RF/t and the CPU.

...more to follow, I'm long winded....lol...
Yeah, I had barely got in under character count in my last post.

    Ridiculously well.

I think they nerfed them eventually, but still, they were bad.

I just did it with Mystical Agriculture, and it felt like a mofo.
Try it with Greenhouse Glass next time over the top of the crops. Pays for itself.

And I did the majority of this before I figured out how auto crafting with the ME system worked.
I prefer Refined Storage myself. Just simpler to use in my opinion.

Also, the autocrafters in RFTools works really well for changing Essence into an item. You can do it automatically without the essence ever even entering your storage system.

... lol... So, it felt like work to me! Looks pretty awesome though....and is likely a big part of my cpu problems...hehe... Though I think it has more to do with my max size reactor from Extreme reactors
Oh, it's absolutely your max sized Extreme Reactor. No question. I have i7-6770k CPU, 32 GB of RAM and a GTX 1080 graphics card and the max reactor still lags my system.

... It pushes out 1.5 million rf/tick, but there's a lot of lag when I go near it. Again, given my nether star generators and phantom face config is turning out just under 6.9 billion rf/tick on it's own, I don't need it, but it was an achievement...
I love the solar panels from Environmental Tech. I think they are such a great way to churn out RF. They obviously don't get into the high millions or billions, but it's pretty good for most of the game.

I don't remember what my max reactor got in RF, it's been a while. I just remember I never made enough Yellorium crops to keep it filled. And RFTools doesn't have a Yellorium block in its dimensions (which really really sucks).

I guess that's probably the problem I've had getting into them. I've never seen them as the easiest way to achieve anything and any items they provide are provided equally or better in other mods.

Right on. It's the kind of thing you need to put down every so often. I'm looking at doing a YouTube project, which is why I'm this hard into it right now, but I'm thinking a break over Christmas might be nice... The PS4 is collecting dust, might be time to take a breather and do some mindless gaming.
After a while, you just find yourself doing the same things in different worlds. Taking some time off allows for mods to change a little, more mods to be created, etc.
