So I played rainbow six the other night. And I played with someone who was using a mouse and a keyboard. Interesting stuff for sure. It got me thinking. We CAN use these with the PS4 as far as we know. So why hasn't anyone decided to start putting these out there? Seems like it might make some sense.

I tried once to play a FPS with a game controller. Never again. Mouse and keyboard works so much better.

Because playstation isn't designed for it and they don't want it because it would be a must have to play FPS games and then of course the console would have to admit what it really is an overpriced underpowered computer that doesn't have any of the extra functionality of a computer and charges for online gameplay.

My understanding is that people caught using a mouse and keyboard in console multiplayer get banned, because it's a seriously unfair advantage.

Meh. Depends on the game.

PC GAMER MASTER RACE

I've never heard that. I had this discussion with a friend though:

"Pc Master race" only exists because of the "hardcore" gamer mentality. I have about $300 and I can play on par with every game and be equal to every rich asshole, momma's boy, and the dude with extra income and no other hobbies. Not with a PC. I have no chance of spending $2000 on a beastly gaming rig that is going run at 9000 FPS on an SSD with intel i9s (being a smart ass). And that is not just going to create a skill gap, but a hardware gap.

There is no hardware gap for a console. And that is nice. I just wish we could see more innovation (remember the PS2 or PC current market?). And maybe see more cheaper quality options for a PC. Imagine if I could drop $300 on a PC and play the same games as a "l33t gamer."

Then again...why would they change the market?

The other guy didn't beat you because his screen runs at 120hz.

For me, "PC Gaming Master Race" isn't about being hardcore, or being a competitive twitch shooter champion. It's about a better gameplay experience. The game looks better and runs smoother. Many are more readily moddable for better personal experience. It doesn't take $2000 to build a PC that runs any game out there are 1080p@60fps solid, with graphics settings cranked up. This machine will substantially outperform a console in terms of overall graphics quality. Plus, we get better peripherals.

Sure, spending $2000 on a high-end PC with high-refresh monitor can give you a tiny reaction advantage over the other guy with a slow machine. But this isn't a huge deal. Player skill will be by far the dominant factor.

I find as much fun in the building and customizing as the playing games. It's a hobby, a bit of an art form for me.

Yes, it cost a lot :p

But it IS a factor. Period.

Then you consider that...again...it costs MORE for a "quality experience" with games being aimed at the high quality PC. There aren't playable options for someone like me who can't drop $1000 on a PC.

Yes, there are.

$300 for a console is your price point. Can you do the same with a PC?

You figure that out yourself. Just go to newegg and put together a computer with about the same specs and check the price.

I reject your 70% shift in goalposts.

$300 is below what I would generally consider a PC gamer budget, but at $500 I can build you a machine that dramatically outperforms the hardware in a PS4. (although admittedly this budget does not include the copy of windows or the monitor. However, I feel this is comparable to the console issue of having to purchase a TV, and Windows is a far more useful operating system that performs lots of non-gaming tasks, so I feel it's skewing things a bit to include Microsoft's price gouging in "gaming budget")

That's the $400+ PS4 pro. The base model PS4 has a GPU roughly half as capable. The $500 machine I referenced would beat this also.

Ok, I wasn't aware of that. Still, nothing wrong with raising the bar.

Here is my issue:

I already own a smart TV (like a lot of Americans) that is high definition. You can get them cheap at Walmart too. I can get the same launch console used for about $300 and I won't have to upgrade for the same amount of time as a PC gamer more than likely.

I don't have to worry about monitor, OS, or any of that. I have 1 controller that I need. I can play sports games (but not true RTS which does suck so is a wash). The argument here is NOT that a console is superior in performance. It is that it is superior for a budget and a casual gamer. Someone who doesn't WANT to spend hours tinkering and debugging and defragging and overclocking and number crunching and budgeting for the next part and upgrades for the next game.

There is a LOT of time consuming non gaming things that you end up doing with a PC. And you just don't have to do that with a console. And that gives it a huge edge that you can bank on. It is just sad that gaming companies or PC companies don't pick up on this and maintain the pointless division. If a PC company could crank out PC that was easy to use, let's me play the big name games with little to no effort...no tweaking...easy setup...living room/couch play with controller OR mouse keyboard...and all for roughly same price as a console? I'd be in.

And if a game company made an RTS like Rome for PS4 with mouse and keyboard supported? I would play.

Except you are making a poor argument. The console is only $300 because it is 3 years old and you are ignoring the hidden cost of paying for the privilege to play online. So if you buy a new console and have it through the 7 year or so cycle then you have spent $850 plus the cost of a TV. And you still get all of your gaming at 1080p/30fps. The 4k Xbox is expected to cost upwards of $600-$800

"Privilege of playing online", My Gold account costs less per year than my WoW subscription, lol.

I mean, I already HAVE a TV, so it's not like that's legitimately part of the price. There's a lot more power and adaptability with the PC, but it's not to say that the console is a terrible choice for gaming. I spend far more time on my console than my PC these days, in fact my PC is mostly just a MMOG machine now. And old games I buy on Steam. And for some of those, I still use a controller over the keyboard/mouse.

And while PC holds the advantage in specs for VR systems, the PS4's is by far the cheapest system out there. Power/dollar, the console is the winner.

people should play what they want to play in the end, but consoles aren't this utter trash of an option. They are excellent tools for gaming and can provide countless hours of entertainment.

That is flat out wrong, you can't even compare pc and console hardware because the console hardware is so old and so bad you can't even price comparable PC parts.

$149 Nvidia GTX 750 Ti unveiled; plays Titanfall better than Xbox One - GameSpot

Yes a low end video card from 2 generations ago has better graphics than an Xbox one. So yes it might be hard to put together a PC for as cheap as a console but you will absolutely get more performance for your dollar out of a PC.

It's not wrong. And you can compare, it's called a ratio. Power to dollar, console wins. Yes, you can throw in high end processors and huge vid cards, and have some excellent performance, but you'll pay for it.

Researchers weren't rushing for the PC when they were trying to do 3-D modeling, they were tearing into PS3's and XBox's because they couldn't beat the processing/dollar ratio.

That 150 video card may play titanfall "better" than the XBox One, but you need a bit more than just a video card, now don't you? How much is the rest of the rig to get there?

There's no point in being upset over PC vs. Console stuff. Some play PC, some Console. I have both (actually all), but I probably play Console way more than PC. And I guess to really rile up the blood of PC Supremacists, I'm playing Halo Wars 2 on my XBox currently, and loving it.

I'm fine with it being 3 years old. And when it IS 3 years old...I can still play brand new games when they come out. No upgrades. And the online cost isn't bad. It has come down, and then you figure I didn't buy the TV for the console (monitor cost), and that my TV isn't going to be purchased every 7 years either. HDMI is going to be around for a little while anyway.

And you still aren't counting the man hours that it will take you to get your "60fps" machine into perfect condition for your games. While it may not be all that complicated...it will never be as simple as a console. And if the console breaks? I can send it back to Sony.

I would PREFER PC because of the games I play. I don't own a PC because my wallet prefers console. So does my time.

I like how the argument went from "you can't get a playable gaming PC for less than $2000," then it was $1000, and now it's "well my budget is $300 and PCs take too long to set up."

Ok. If your budget is $300, buy a console. I suggest sticking to used games from a few years ago, those $60 new AAA titles will be a bit much.

As for "man hours to achieve 60fps." Uhh. What? You can walk into Best Buy and walk out with a machine that will do that. It wont take any longer to set up than a console does.

You apparently missed the point, a 3 year old $150 card can out produce the Xbox one in graphics. A $150 card today is 80% better than that one.

Here's a $400 pc that gives way more performance than a console, so even on ratio consoles can't really hold a candle to PC
