Who plays tabletop rpgs?

I have always loved tabletops, like DnD, Pathfinder, and Savage Worlds. Started playing in college with 3.5. And have had a few groups since then, where I live doesn't have many people. So I had to move to online play, but got to busy to really play in recent years. Am rearranging the house today, and I just found my books. Brought back some good memories.

So what tabletops are you guys into? I'm thinking of setting up an online game, if anyones intersted. I need a distraction, something to keep me busy.

Played alot when I was young. Not so much any more. Have played: D&D from when it was booklets, Traveler, Runequest, Space Opera, Chivalry and Sorcery, Champions, Villains and Vigilantes(I was acquainted with Jeff Dee somewhat), Call of Cthulu, Warhammer stuff, probably more I can't remember.

lol, he asked and it made him happy to have them. He couldn't wait to show his buddies all the cool old stuff. He was really excited about having my original Temple of Elemental Evil module that was printed in 1985... apparently that one is still well known.

I think I was around 10 or 11 when we played The Village of Hommlett. The moment we set foot in the village we had no idea what to do next, so we drew our weapons and attacked the village LOL.

Gosh. I don't even want to think about how badly that messes up the quest.

I've played in an evil campaign before but it wasn't just total murder hobo... we were a fallen Drow noble house and as the last survivors we built a criminal empire and sought revenge against the houses that betrayed us. You couldn't be stupid or wanton in that game, but there was plenty of fighting and intrigue.

I do when I have a chance, which isn't very often. Still love games like Paranoia, have been playing some Monster of the Week lately. I wish I had more time and better people to play with.

Ever since I heard of it I thought paranoia sounded hilarious.

Your mission is to root out all communists and mutants and traitorous members of secret societies... as a member of a secret society in a communist state where all the inhabitants are genetically mutated.

Run by an insane computer to top it off

It is hilarious if you play it right. Believe it or not, I've played Paranoia with people who play it seriously and it's the worst game imaginable. The fun comes in when you don't take anything seriously and don't really care if you "win" or not. In fact, finding creative and interesting ways to die is half the fun of the game.

Oh we had such a fun time with that. After the village was a smoking ruin and we had leveld up several times, we attacked each other. I was the second to the last to die, only because my opponent was a ranger lol. After my buddy killed me, he rested in the inn and was stabbed to death in his sleep by our cowardly mage lol.

People tried to play it seriously? Did they even read the rules?
Remember once 1 guy managed to go through all 6 clones in 5 minutes, he understood the game!

Hell, I ran a game where I killed off 30 clones at once. Nobody even got out of the briefing room. That takes some doing.

If at least 1 person doesn't die before you get to the briefing room you are definitely playing the game wrong

I play on Sundays with a group of longtime friends. Great way to spend a few hours. Would be interested in whatever gets put on here.

Weekends in the fairly rare event enough people can all find time for it, and the stars/schedules align; 5e, Star Wars Force and Destiny and particularly Dark Heresy 2E are favourites.

Im currently a player in Midnight 2.0 (D&D 3.5)

Its pretty rough. I need a new character as my barbarian orc was killed by a swarm of fell zombies in a terrific last stand that allowed the rest of the party to flee and fight another day.

I held the line and bought everyone 2 rounds to run.

Now I need to make another character.

Everyone else is a channeller or archer so I have been told I need another fighter type.

I am a dm of 25+ years in advanced D&D but I am still learning D&D 3.5 and Midnight is totally new to me.

Midnight reminds me of Ravenloft in flavor but the story and books seem quite well thought out.

Since I was brutally killed last time, This saturday the group made and threw this guy at me.

At least he has some hit points.

Looks good. I don't recognize some of the class features. Are they Midnight specific?

If you are learning 3.5, look over Pathfinder also. They streamlined some of the skills and feats, and gave each class something every level. And it is easy to modify any 3.5 prestige class to Pathfinder.

There is a pathfinder archetype in there. frenzied berserker but i did not know how to get pcgen to generate that part.

Midnight is low magic. The one thing that pcs have to get a bit of advantage is a heroic path. there are many types. giant blooded, ironborn, steel blooded and on and on.

Midnight: SRD

Steel blooded seems to be pretty good with more feats.

PC gen is pretty good to generate a character but not complete.

I just did a quick scan through, but basically it's a home brew. Looks interesting.

Check out Hero Lab. I have had a lot of luck with it. It can run 3.5, 4e and 5e as well as Pathfinder and other systems. You do have to purchase each system separately though. The nice thing I see that you get three licenses for three different devices. Plus you can download the free version of the mobile app, and use Dropbox to send the file to your mobile, and use that to track your character. You can even apply spell effects. And there is no need to apply a license to the mobile. The free app does what you need. Adding the license only allows you to do editing , and a computer is better than that. You can also add custome content. I have added many of my personal feats, races, and classes to my copy.

I haven't played table top RPGs in forever, but I was deep into the hobby through college. My favorite games tended to be the not-quite-mainstream titles. I loved GAMMA WORLD in all of it's iterations, any game using the HERO system, and the fantasy game POWERS & PERILS.

Oddly, my love of PC RPGs started with AD&D Gold Box games (Curse of the Azure Bonds, etc.).. just never played AD&D much as a table top experience.

I dmed a long term campaign (4-5) years. At some point it became a dimension hopping adventure for the fate of the multiverse.

Gamma world was one of the many worlds my players visited. It was very dangerous but very fun. It was funny to see the mages figure out the futuristic equipment and train the fighters in their use.

I much prefer the more imagination driven 2nd edition d&d style rather than the rules heavy tabletop combat systems of 3.5, 4th, and 5th edition.

There's a pc game out now called legends of the sword coast I am enjoying. It's reminiscent of azure bonds which I recall fondly.

I liked all those SSI games.

Buck Rogers SSI was great. Same system as azure bonds but with spaceships and lasers.

Yeah, I played that too. I also played table top and PC versions of Traveller which was awesome.

If you have a chance, find an old copy of the Traveler PC game just to play the minigame character creator. Here is a free, fairly clunky version of the character creator.
