Battlefield 1 Thread

BF3, the Paris subway map, play as a support, lay down C4... kill entire opposing force in one fell swoop, have admin come on and yell at you for setting off his alerts for hacking (they banned me once for that till they reviewed, I killed 10 ppl with one push of the button). That for me was the best BF ever. 1942 is a close second

I still think BF2 was the best, but I will say...BF3 had excellent maps. That subway map really was excellent tug-of-war battle. I remember my team grinding it out for a half hour at the bottom of that damn escalator, desperately trying to gain a foothold at the top. Once we finally broke through, there was a real sense of team accomplishment, and that was STILL under a hail of gunfire from the other side trying to push us back down. Good times.

Where do you put c4 to get that kind of carnage?

You know the left side, that vent area? I laid it all around that and they all decided to try vents that go... :)

That "subway" map was Metro, and was brought along in BF4, and is my favorite map to play. I've played so much battlefield that I have come to hate playing maps where I have to walk or run miles just to find a fight. In Metro they call that map the meatgrinder, and for good reason.. :)

BF2 was indeed the golden age of the series, and I miss it dearly.

I just don't know why they suddenly got rid of the communication aspect. Now it's just a bunch of army-of-one types looking to max out their personal stats. In BF2, my KDR always sucked, but I was a killer as the commander. Always updated the troops where the biggest concentration of enemy was. Always let 'em know which flags were undefended. Kept everyone supplied. It was a much better experience than just run-and-gun.

In a game such as BF, it's incredible how much the experience is enhanced when you have proper communication between players, I know I'm picking a different game to illustrate my example but it's not that far off.

I was playing Planetside 2, which I loved besides some of the pay to win nonsense, but truly great games are those that create moments, moments you never forget.

I was in an outpost out in the deserts of Indar with a very large group that was communicating well, but we were heavily outnumbered, we were barely holding the base, they were coming over every wall from every side, I hadn't heard what was going on but one guy gathered rienforcements and when they arrived I just heard the guy say "Hey guys, look up you're going to like what you see".

I looked up and saw what must have been almost 100 fighter planes and bombers overhead, start pummeling the attackers, not only did we push them back but we went on to capture three bases on the counterattack.

Was Goddamn magic, games that can foster THAT kind of experience are just gold in my opinion.

Yep. I've had a few of those. From rainbow six to joint operations typhoon rising. I'm on a war thunder kick right now and I LOVE flying wingman or playing realistic tank battles and flying with my bf110 German heavy fighter coordinating with my friend on the ground.

It was a damn good game. Its kind of sad, though, that there hasn't been a GOOD WWII-era game since Big Red One.

I know we have one already but that one is about buying it, wanted to talk about gameplay if anyone is playing AND does anyone have it on Xbox one?

I find it thoroughly enjoyable, really liked the Medic Class this time around, the horse gameplay is just amazing, probably my favorite thing to do honestly, especially on Sinai and Suez, Ballroom Blitz for example, horses are at a pretty big disadvantage.

Suez is not such a hot map though overall and they're going to balance it apparently, create more flags.

Your thoughts?

To the OP topic:

I played the demo (open beta...same diff).

I enjoyed it for a little bit, but they turned me off. It was a First World War game that was not actual First World War gameplay. From the weapons to the run and gun style of play. They had me all excited until I played it. Then I went back to playing Verdun to slake my First World War bloodlust.

Now. I'm not knocking the game. I enjoyed it. It just wasn't what I wanted. If I wanted to play a war game with SMGs, tanks, man portable LMGs and so on...I would play a Second World War game. The First World War is supposed to be about wave attacks. Being in the trench point blank beating and stabbing and hacking the enemy to death with gun butts and clubs and shovels and bayonets and knives. Machine guns should be emplaned and deadly.

So don't get me wrong. They got the hand to hand stuff right. As best they could for a first person game too. So I played. But it just didn't grab me by the testicles and make me want to join the fight. It just felt lackluster. And yes. There was plenty of open combat in the First World War. But that wasn't the core of the European theatre. I don't know. I think maybe EA finally burned me out on battlefield? I didn't play the last 2 either and I tried battlefront and was sorely disappointed.

Maybe I'm just burnt out on gaming? Because I play 3 games regularly...War Thunder, Verdun, and rainbow six. If I owned a Pc it would be ARMA probably.
