Brexit is simulated in Football Manager 2017, and it's going to make the game harder than ever
Almost sure not many play this game, but the implications of Brexit in a computer game is quite interesting. Going to have access to it tonight via beta access.. will be interesting how they actually do this. So you can have one game running where the is a hard Brexit, and 4 max non British players, and that Scotland and Wales leave the UK .. now that would be interesting lol.. and damn hard to play.
For those who dont know Football Manager series.. it is a football manager game that has a massive amount of realism. Buying/selling players, setting training, tactics and so on.
Also clubs use the database of players to scout these days, as the massive scouting network the game developers have.. is far superior to their own networks. And the accuracy of the scouting is quite... amazing.
In-game, players of Football Manager 2017 will be alerted at some point between two and 10 years in that trade negotiations have begun, and a year later a news bulletin will detail the extent of Brexit. There are three main scenarios:
1. Soft Brexit - free movement of workers remains.
2. Footballers are granted the same special exemptions that are currently given to ‘entertainers’. This means it is easier for them to obtain work permits than other people, and it will not have a huge impact on player movement from the EU.
3. Hard Brexit: similar rules to those which currently apply to non-EU players are adopted for all non-UK players.
It is this third option that would see the biggest effect on gameplay.
