No Man's Sky

Dear God man!!

How huge???

I try to be economic. I mine fuel from Minimus and work from there...

I started playing NMS again last month, maybe June. Once I figured out the base building, farming, etc. I was able to upgrade pretty good. Anyway, at this point, I have a 33 slot freighter with a Albumen Pearl farm inside. I can collect 156 pearls every 20 minutes for over 3 million units when I want to generate money. I now have three 48 slot A class haulers, 19 slot S class explorer, and 19 slot S class fighter, and a 38 slot A class fighter. Have stuff growing at my base as well. Holding all tryes of resources for quick at hand usage.

It wasn't long ago that I got all the formulas for crafting some items that sell for 18 million units in a complete restart of the game. I packed up my base into my four haulers when I was just short of a billion units. Here are some pics:

What is the point of NMS? I never got it.

It sure seems mindless at times.

They have added things in the last couple updates. It all depends on what you like. It takes some time to build wealth, and there are different ways of doing it.

Did yo look at any of my pics, or the last link, a google doc?

Yes, but I still don't see what the purpose is.

I get that is sort of the issue with Kerbil but the challenge of designing your own space program is well worth it. All the fun of orbital mechanics! Who can resist?

It's a sandbox game. Some folks just don't understand those. Games that have no agenda, nor ending. Games that allow people to just do whatever.

No Man's Sky is a very chill game. Sometimes you just want to grind for money. Sometimes you want to build something. Sometimes you just want to take a walk on a planet and explore. There's no right or wrong way to play it. It's very similar to Elite Dangerous. Both games have no real agenda. You just play the role of an insignificant speck in the universe, and go about your way.

No Man's Sky in particular is a really good game to play while half in the bag from some nice bourbon. Very chill.

Maybe that's why I like it?

That Elijah Craig 23 yr is a $200 bottle. The Jameson 12 yr, $90.

That pic is from may of last year. I can't get good pics any more, because I have it is a hall like area now. My collection has grown since then also.

Bases

Bases can be built anywhere
Players can own multiple bases
Hundreds of new base parts
Increased base complexity / size limits
Joint base building
Improved teleporting and selection between teleport destinations
Improved terrain editor modes and options to be more intuitive
Toned down saturation intensity of palette choices for colouring base building parts
Base terrain editing now stops when you hit the limit rather than overwriting old edits
Bases can now be deleted
Improved system for placing base building parts
Increased base building radius and made it expandable
Disabled base auto uploading, and added manual controls
Enabled downloading more than one external base from other players

And it goes on and on. I will probably break it out again soon and check out the changes.

I played it for a couple of hours, then deleted it. Boring and pointless eye candy. Every planet is just a reskin of the other.

Not sure. Bases are changed, mining is changed, technology is changed, so a good chance anyway.

These guys are really pissing me off.

I stopped playing with the Atlas update, just to start and try the Abyss update last week. Now with a new version yet, yesterday.

Why can't these fools do it like Civilization, where you can choose which version to play?

Checked quick this morning, and my save game was still compatible. I was able to get in(holy hell load time is way lower). Since lots of changes where to the new game experience(easier mining, sentinels less likely to make trouble, redone early game quests and base building), when I get actual play time later will probably start a new game from scratch.

For what it's worth, I haven't played since release and my save game still worked. My inventory was full of "obsolete technology" that deconstructed into useless components that apparently sell for a lot of money.

Also, anyone starting a new game who hasn't played in a while, do NOT trade in your starter ship for the Beta-reward ship, the game doesn't work like that anymore and all you end up getting is stranded on a planet without a way of getting to your new spaceship.

Holy hell game is way different from the last update! Will pass along more after I get some work done, but inventory management looks to largely be a thing of the past.

My update corrupted the whole game. It stops cold and never fully loads. I deleted and reloaded, and still no working game.

So inventory slots now hold a very large number of elemental type stuff. I had over 1k carbon in a regular exosuit slot. Not sure how many total you can have.

Mining seems faster.

Instead of pushing F and pointing at something to scan it, you now press F, point at it, and then click the mouse button to scan. Gotta hold the mouse button while it scans. May be slightly faster, but I have not played in awhile so not sure.

Blueprint analyzer is renamed and shows the whole tech tree, very nice change.

Sentinels seem less aggressive.

Only played about an hour(and then CTD). Like some of the changes alot. Some not so much. Might play more tonight, but probably will stick with Oxygen Not Included, which I got Monday and is godly.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. Also, I sold the junk from my "obsolete Item"s for like 1.5 million credits.

There is either something broken about ship transfers or it is not explained well. Twice I had to reload after finding a new ship and "ad it to your collection" option disowned my old ship and I couldn't reclaim it. I had assumed that I could add a second ship and then use my old ship to go scout for minerals to repair the new one... nope. Also weird that the ship I disowned dropped a sale marker next to it and said "The owner is not here, wait for them to return".

Anyway, the game is much better than when I last played years ago. I may give it more time this weekend.

The slots will hold 9,999 elemental. I got mine working. It was a simple need to update my GeForce driver, which is new as of last month.

Base building needs a LOT of work, some stuff is so broken that you wonder why it was even in the current release. I fought for hours trying to get my landing pad raised up off of the ground using the foundations, but foundations just don't work. Unlike every other game with a similar toolset, it doesn't let you adjust the level of the foundation, and it is hard as hell to build on top of it anyway.

Ah well.

That said, this game is staggering in size now, and fun as hell.. all bugs aside. I could make a whole game out of exploiting the first planet I put a base on. But my goal right now is to gather by first 150 million units and find a fully decked out Freighter and start the story... eventually. I have seen one fully upgraded freighter and one fully upgraded spaceship .. I want both.

Also, I finally got it through my thick skull how item mods actually work and have started to see real gains in my QOL in game. I realize now that there is really no point in a Multiu-tool weapon other than the bolt caster. I have fooled around with the other weapon types and see no point. The grenade launcher is good for a laugh a few times when you accidentally kill yourself while right clicking out of a menu, but after a few times you empty it of ammunition and stop reloading it. I bought a new multi-tool eventually because that is the only way to clear weapons out of a multi-tool since you can't delete them.

I also got my first vehicle built and look forward to tooling around in it... though I'm sure I will drive it off a cliff within the first hour.

You know, once you discover the Iridium/Chromatic Metal cycle farming, all the building, exploring and having fun just seems like a waste of time. :lamo

Another new patch, lots of changes. Can upgrade your ship, both class and storage(maybe more, have not checked yet). Upgrading class is, as I understand it, expensive. You can also salvage unwanted ships now. You can carry more than one multi-tool, allowing for a scanning tool, a mining tool, and a weapon, each specialized for their tasks with technologies. More new technologies. The ability to upgrade your exosuit to do refining from your backpack(no more forgetting to pick up your refiner and not noticing until you are several systems away). Better base building. Drag and drop functionality in your inventory!

I will play around with it later, but sounds like some good changes.

I took my 38/12 slot A-Class fighter and it worth 49,000,000 units. I can scrap it for 34,500,000 units. It will let me upgrade it to a S-Class for 50,000 nanites. What surprised me, is it has the option to upgrade it to 39 slots for 60,000,000 units. I only have 73,631,076 units and 8,411 nanite clusters. on this fresh game I started.

I lucked into this ship early in the game as a crashed ship, and took me a while to fix it.

I went for the upgrade to see what happens. I can choose a 13th tech slot or 39th cargo slot. It gave me the 39th slot. The next slot will cost 65,000,000 units.

I'm going back to my last save though. I'll do this later. What surprises me is Fighters were limited to 38 slots. I wonder what slot limits for ships are now?

What I want is a new paint job. It's all scuffed off in places.
