This is an early access game, that is fantastic.
The plot, at the moment, is fairly simple.
You are a crash survivor on an alien planet, your objective is to survive, explore and build within this semi hostile world.
You're not really supposed to kill everything, it's more exploration, but I've found it great.

Has anyone else started playing this since the release? I played some back when it was in beta, but I am still blown away by the release version.

There is so much to this game that is perfectly executed. The visuals, controls, sound, seamless pacing, tension.. just amazing.

Maybe what I am most impressed with, though, is how they took the design beauty, near flawless controls and logical, often heart pounding tension and seamlessly added a story.

I have had moments where I was so wrapped up in the game that I would stumble on set pieces or environments and get a chill. I'm an old guy and it has been a loooooong time since I have been this impressed with the totality of a gaming experience. I put it up with my first experience with the original X-Com, another game that seamed absolutely perfect no matter how I approached it.

So yeah, I like it.

On of my favorite Twitch streamers gave me a copy but I still haven't bothered to try it. Perhaps I will.

I can see where the concept would turn some gamers off, but there is something about a game that is this well executed that draws people in. I had been burned out on the standard survival game format for a long time, but saw Subnautica show up in Steam as newly released so I reloaded and started playing it on Sunday.

Maybe it's that I expected a more refined version of the game I played over a year ago, which wouldn't be a bad thing, but I got a lot more than that.

Took a break from Skyrim since I pretty much finished all the main quests and I decided to try this one out for a few hours...

The next thing I knew it was morning already lol.

The underwater sequences are great, and being a certified diver its very realistic with some exceptions (fish dont bellow, and the pressure when you descend isnt covered). I havent dived in years but I'm starting to get the itch after playing this.

Playing it in VR has been fun. It really makes you experience everything in scale.
