after so much thought about shroud of the avatar game in developement,i went onto gog and bought the whole series including both ultima underworld games and both sidequest oddball world of ultima games for 29 bucks!!!!!!

and omg these games are still amazing today,no handholding like modern games,you are free to explore and do what you want when you want!!!


i have a win 98 computer with a 5 1/4 floppy drive with many originals or copies from back in the day,but dos is a much like a woman,you have to sweet talk it,turn the knobs just right,buy it some chocolate,and it just maight maybe possibly do what you wanted it to do,like load the freaking game without an error!
 
I played XCOM a few months ago using DosBox on my Win7 so its certainly possible.

Ah Ultima, I played parts 1 and 2 when I was a little tyke on my old Apple II. Never finished it of course.

Grab a copy of Wizardry 7. Probably the best RPG of all time(Morrowind is another possibility for that title), huge world, tons and tons to do, so may ways to advance your character(though realize class changing will break the game, it is the one big mistake they made), multiple endings, potential for multiple start points(if you played Wiz 6).

never played it,gonna have to try it,i enjoy open world no hand holding rpg games over linear games.
